Jon Anderson the singer collaborated with the band Tangerine Dream to do the vocals on a song “Loved by the Sun”. It was used for the ending of the fantasy movie “Legend” starring Tom Cruise. It’s as lovely as this song. You should check it out.
The first time I heard this song I was totally mesmerized by the acoustic piece at the end. I must have replayed it at least twenty times until I had memorized it. 45 years later, I always have to listen to the ending over and over again. Then I have to go wash my face so no one can see the tears. Roan and his lady will live forever.
Dear Ambrose I've seen Chris Squire and Yes the greatest show on earth 36 times. Your reactions warm my old heart. Keep your Yes journey alive and it will fill your heart with Gods spirit.
Can't forget Alan White on tuned percussion and Chris Squire on bass...what a beautiful, lyrical rhythm section! And Howe and Squire's backing vocals...gorgeous. 😍
Howe is superb, Jon and Chris are in perfect harmony, Chris on his Rick bass is so powerful. Rick Ties it in perfectly with all the keyboard some piano work with Alan excellent percussion flourishes. just an absolute masterpiece
You know what's so funny when I heard this for this time when I was a young lad, I would play that ending over over over and over.I could never get enough of it...still can't ...All those many yearrrrssssssss...agooooooOOOoooo...love it. So nice to see you get emotional over it. One of Yes' strongest piece of music.
You loving this song was a given having seen your reaction to 'And You and I' and 'Awaken'. I'm so glad you indulged us, we won't let you down. Two more Yes songs you will love are: 'To Be Over' and 'Wonderous Stories'. Enjoy 😊 In 1974, Jon Anderson left Yes and created a concept album called 'Olias of Sunhillow'. The entire album is 45 mins long and you should react to the whole album in one go as it is a story and the songs flow one to the other. Jon plays every instrument, even those he had no idea how to play, and is every voice that you hear and all with analogue tape. It is a one man masterpiece. Understanding now what moves you in music I know it is a journey you will treasure to hear. We would love to share that journey with you Cynthia 😊
I was 17 when this L.P.first came out, there was nothing like it anywhere! There still isn't and likely never will be. The whole album is an ever-present joy! VBW x
Oh! At the end you were listening to the little organ transition at the end of the track. It is a tie to Parallels; it modulates from the key of Turn of The Century to Parallels. So wonderful that you caught it!
Yay! So few people have reacted to this. It really is one of their hidden gems. It makes my top 10 favorite pieces of music by them. It's a true masterpiece. The ending part leads right into the next song, 'Parallels'. Much of their music was made to listen to the entire album side, as was the case with most groups. This was a very nice reaction by you.
Jon Anderson (lead vocals) and Steve Howe (Guitars) heavenly shine on that beautiful song, the way they sing and play in harmony or the way they respond to each other...
Girl! You listened to the best band, Jon Anderson vocals, STEVE HOWE, yes, (written in capital letters) in the guitar, bea utiful ending, Rick Wakemas keyboard and piano, Chris Squire bassist, Bill Bruford drummer. Real Masters.
Jon Anderson's vocals are irreplaceable. Another wonderful song from one of my all time favorite Yes albums. Glad to see you have been embracing this band. Equally impressive on vocals would be Sade. Perhaps my favorite female vocalist. Stay safe.
That is Steve Howe's guitar playing at the end. He was extremely respected in the guitar community and inspired me to dedicate myself to playing guitar. He was voted best in the overall category of Guitar Player magazine 5 years in a row.
A very great band, one of the most beautiful album composed by very essential musicians. nobody sounds and prays like that now, nobody.. The sun is in their heart Rip Chris and Yes
That's a beautiful and sad love song as the sculpture's wife dies and he lives on with the sculpture he made of her reminding him of their life and love together. The guitar part is the actual ending. The other part you were referring to is actually the beginning of the song Parralels.
Good one. I was fortunate enough to see this lineup in the round on the next tour before they parted ways. They were just unbelievably great at their craft.
Turn of the century by Yes is a wonderful song. On the Going for the One LP Awaken and Wonderous Stories are very good too. For me this was the bookend album. The prime Yes years from "The Yes Album" to "Going for the One" they were the so good and there will never be any band them them again. Thank you for posting this, for 50 years Yes is one of my very favorite groups. Love your reaction to Turn of the century. You could try some Yes live from Yessongs, "Yours is no Disgrace" and "Starship Trooper" are two amazing ones. I know you have done the studio versions of one or both but the live ones are unreal. That will help you understand how this band worked live. And my dear Yes is always the best through headphones.
THIS is Yes’ greatest moment… imho surpassing “Close to the Edge”, “Awaken”, Sides 1 and 4 of “Tales from Topographic Oceans”… it is EVERYTHING that they are capable: beauty, finesse, power, emotion… this is their masterpiece. Rick (Wakeman) and Steve (Howe) playing between each other - not OVER each other. Chris (Squire) moving it along gently. Alan (White) … I don’t think he uses his bass drum once in the entire song! … and then there’s Jon (no name needed) - his lyrics and his voice are on a whole NEW level. In case you couldn’t tell - I really love this song.
I would love to see your reaction to Long Distance Runaround/The Fish!! They are 2 separate consecutive tracks but they really do have to go together. Long Distance Runaround has a really catchy but unusual beat and flow, then then turns into The Fish, which is saturated with layers of crazy bass guitar work. Even the song title is named after the late, great bassist Chris Squire. The Fish was his nickname because he was a Pisces. Some random Yes trivia for ya!!
Realising a form out of stone, Set hands moving. Roan shaped his heart, Through his working hands. Worked to mold his passion into clay, Like the sun. In his room, his lady, She would dance and sing so completely. "So be still," he now cries, "I have time, oh let clay transform thee so." In the deep cold of night, Winter calls, he cries "Don't deny me!" For his lady, deep her illness. Time has caught her, And will for all reasons take her. In the still light of dawn, she dies. Helpless hands soul revealing. Like leaves we touch, we learn. We once knew the story. As winter calls he will starve, All but to see the stone be life. Now Roan, no more tears. Set to work his strength, So transformed him. Realizing a form out of stone, His work so absorbed him. Could she hear him? Could she see him? All aglow was his room, Dazed in this light. He would touch her, He would hold her. Laughing as they danced, Highest colors touching others. Did her eyes at the turn of the century, Tell me plainly. How we'll meet, how we'll love, Oh, let life so transform me. Like leaves we touch, we dance. We once knew the story. As autumn called and we both, Remembered all those many years ago. I'm sure we know. Was the sign in the day with a touch, As I kiss your fingers. We walk hands in the sun, Memories when we're young, Love lingers so. Was it sun through the haze, That made all your looks, As warm as moonlight? As a pearl deep your eyes, Tears have flown away, All the same light. Did her eyes at the turn of the century, Tell me plainly. When we meet, how we'll look, As we smile time will leave me clearly. Like leaves we touch, we see, We will know the story. As autumn calls we'll both remember, All those many years ago.
10:41 that part, the almost inaudible bit of that song, was actually the soft intro to the next track, Parallels which kicks in with loud organ chords. somehow this deluxe cd separated those two songs poorly.
YES: their album "Magnification" from 2001 is phenomenal. They have a full orchestra playing with them. Very few people are reviewing this. Do "In The Presence Of", "Dreamtime", or the title track "Magnification". You know YES will deliver. Thank you and blessings!
Thought you would like this one! Steve's guitar, especially, and Rick's piano are out of this world. I saw the classic line up perform this in 2003, at what remains probably the best concert I have been to. Wonderful. Well done on cracking 10k subscribers, too. Well deserved!
Going for the one is a perfect album. It conjures so many emotions. Every song holds a specific happy memory for me from a time in my life that I cherish and wouldn’t trade for the world.
Soon as I clicked, I was like "OMG! Such a beautiful woman reacting to one of my top two Yes songs!" Thank you for this, Cynthia. I have a lifelong preoccupation with the Pygmalion story, and this is a very big part of it, and also one of my guitarist friend's favourite contributions to the Yes catalogue! Thank you again!

that very last part is actually the very beginning of Awaken, which is the next track on the album, Turn of the century is one of my favorite tracks, but I dont think there is a bad song that they have put down on record, every song has merit
What a Masterpiece of Music.
A beautiful song about how love can conquer even death. Definitely a tear jerker.
This is one of the most beautiful songs Yes ever made. Thanks for sharing your reaction.
It's one of the most beautiful songs ever written by anyone!
There is also an acoustic version of this song with Steve Howe on guitar and the vocals sung by Annie Haslam of Renaissance. Such a beautiful song.
There is, and never will be anyone like YES
Like Chris Squire
I consider Yes to be a mix of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Rush. But a unique mix and definitely pioneers and masters of progressive rock.
One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever created. Sad, and beautiful simultaneously.
that’s a ❤️ song YES astounding musicians yet again
not a single line in this 7-minute long song, rhymes...!!!! what a beautiful, elegant, dreamy masterpiece...!!!!
One of my favorite YES songs!!
"Was it sun through the haze that made all your looks as warm as moonlight?"
Beautiful lyrics, beautiful song.
😢i cry. Beatiful. Guitar is fantastic
the music of silence, of the sunset, of spiritual gates ... Yes we love it
Just lovely, just as you are. One of their best melodies. I think Tales from Topographical Oceans part/side 2 also has some lovely melodies.
That 'ending' is really the beginning of Parallels.
