Hey Lee I just sent you something on “Thanks$”, wish it was more but I hope it helps, as I said before on one of your YES Saturday you should listen to “That, That Is” from the 1996 Keys to the Ascension album it’s a YES Masterpiece that many don’t know about but it’s such a great definition of Jon’s Lyrics of Life, Love, Hope, & Redemption it’s really an awesome piece! It tell us How the Angels Sings, it asks How Did Heaven Begin? Plus it tells you how you come to the Shore of Love Eternal, it’s an awesome song to say the least & like Turn of The Century it always brings me to tears.
Steve's playing a 1956 Les Paul Custom. He picked it because it's a very fast playing guitar with low small frets. You can set it up with extremely low action. He said he used it because he had to play a lot of notes.
One of their most Beautiful songs, and it's on my Favorite Yes studio album ( although I'm not a big fan of the album cover)! Wish Roger Dean would have done the cover. Great reaction btw.
This is the pinnacle of what Yes could produce: lush, evocative, exquisite, symphonic with all the complex interlocking parts that trade off and weave into each other, tugging at the heartstrings with simultaneous beauty and power. The lyrics even [mostly] make sense!
Yes, this is a real showcase for Jon and Steve in particular... must be one of the most beautiful and carefully constructed stretches of guitar playing Steve Howe ever laid down in the studio. There's also a version he did twenty years later with Annie Haslam (lead singer with British prog rock band Renaissance) singing those soaring vocal lines - equally beautiful.
Yep...like clockwork. I now can't wait for "Yes Saturday"! No better way to start-off a Saturday morning than shedding tears (again) to some of the most beautiful music ever recorded. I've been doing it for 50 years...I'm sure you will be also now. Welcome to the club!
Thank you my friend! Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah this is an absolute juggernaut of an acoustic ballad type. It's just so comfy and sweet sounding. And eventually when the tears hit, they flow lol

That's all we can do bro is do our own part... and it gets gloomy thinking about it... but hey all we can do is dance till the music stops and its time to go home finally ❤
Yes, there's something magical and almost Elizabethan about this piece. It's very evocative and emotional, and yet also soothing and graceful. They hit a peak with this album, which I don't think they ever reached again.
The great thing about Alan on this song is that he wrote the lovely chord progression that forms the basis of it, but he steps back and lets others shine in developing and presenting it, which they do with virtuoso skill and beauty.. He just adds some subtle percussion and vibraphone at certain points, but had the humility and artistic integrity not to impose himself on the performance, even though he initiated the piece.
Always brings a tear to my eye that one.The entire group excelled throughout, composition, magical vocals and lyrics, magical guitar, swirling keyboards and grand piano and Chris for magical harmonies and descant vocals in support. Ornate, and you can hear that, whenever you want, that's the real blessing... be well, dear chap. 😊
Thank you as always Randle hopefully is well. This was a beautiful composition that was executed even better. These guys are truly magical to listen to.
It starts as a conversation between Steve and Jon with Rick and Chris holding back, and just supporting where needed. Later Rick gets his moments and its a three way conversation, with Chris STILL staying in the background and just supporting. Its a masterclass in restraint despite the fact that Chris can practically "out prog" all of them and dominate if he wants to- but he instead, serves the song, as it ahould be, no matter how much of a virtuoso player he is.

For many years there was an online Yes fan group that sent out weekly newsletters, and their official tagline was "Like leaves we touch," taken from this song.

One of my all time favorites! It’s loosely based on Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw and tells a story about a sculptor whose wife becomes sick and dies. The sculptor then becomes obsessed with his work and creates her likeness, which comes back to life. Makes total sense, right?
This song is almost Gift of the Magi level of poignancy. A sculptor sets out to realize his wife's form out of stone, but she dies before he finishes. A beautiful amalgam of happiness and sadness. One of Yes's best.
Even though there's hardly any drumming, Alan White was a co-writer on this track, along with Anderson and Howe. Pretty amazing. "TOTC" is a very special YesSong and it's on the same album as "Awaken" and "Wonderous Stories". The guys were all happy to be reunited with each other and with Rick Wakeman after a four year separation. The next album, _Tormato,_ was a very difficult one for them, but there are still many good songs on it: "Future Times/Rejoice", "Don't Kill the Whale", "Circus of Heaven", "Onward", "On the Silent Wings of Freedom", etc.
Not only was Alan co-writer, he was the principle writer of this track, which is why his name is listed first on the credits. Not many know that Alan was an excellent pianist as well.
Yes, the story to this song is important to listen to--about the sculptor Roan. It will probably hit you even more when you get into the lyrics. But sometimes a good cry is helpful.
This song expresses the feeling of love, and loss, in such an incredible way. So many thousands of mainstream songs that address these same themes don’t come close to nailing it the way this song does! The musical quality, the quirky-as-usual lyrical choices, and Jon’s magical voice are a perfect blend, and create a perfect love song. Not trite like so many love songs, but deep and meaningful. It hits the very core of your being! I saw Yes a few times, and the best was their “Masterworks” tour where they focused on their longer tracks for the whole set. To your point, it was literally a kind of religious/spiritual experience.
The version with just Steve on classical guitar and Annie Haslam on vocals is worth searching for. One of their greatest achievements with Rick back in the band. Sonic perfection.
I hope the rest of your day brings you more joy and fun........ We're use to hearing you say "you're having a good day too"........ May more fun come your way today friend ! 🤟
If you do Wonderous Stories, you should do the video of their official release. You will see Steve play a Spanish Laud, Rick's magic fingers flowing over the keys, Chris booming his bass, and Jon strumming away. Nice reaction to Turn.
@@TheRKae Keystudio should be considered Yes' latter day masterpiece. It's a shame how it was released so carelessly as bonus tracks on a live album basically.
Alan White gets a writing credit here. Jon Anderson played it for Alan's celebration of life concert last year. To me the build and climax in this is Steve and Rick's single greatest moment together in the band.
Sonic Perspectives: Scott Medina interviews Alan White (2019) (SM) Well, we like to close our interviews with, with a song from the band. Is there one particular song that you would like us to feature that does feature you or is special to you? (AW) "Turn of the Century". How about that? (SM) Yeah, so you co-wrote that with Steve. Is there anything you want to share about that experience of writing that song? (AW) Well, I actually wrote that on piano and then Steve did an adaption of the chords that I came up with. And then Jon basically plays the same melody as I played on the piano, that's the song. So it came together relatively quickly and I know a lot of people love that song. ruclips.net/video/Hh2AtH8_n6A/видео.html
Steve can play bass also. Listen again and it will fill your heart and loose the world for a short while plus, it will always sound this good. I bought this in 1977. You need to buy the vinyl and enjoy the cover art and go deep into the songs lyrics and all the notes. I'm a bit geeky on Yes though.
Listen to the song again....and listen with your loved one in mind. Steve Howe is a Troubadour of the modern era and he is not alone....Tom Petty and Ian Anderson are also troubadour, too. They play their instruments like they are in the court yard of the Kings and Queens which is us.....Steve Howe masters 19 string instruments!!!
Going for the one, ...my first YES album. I was stunned, musicaly but also the wonderfull production. Never heard that soundquality before and even today it is magical. I turned 64 and still listen to it almost everyday and today this song brought tears again..Thanks for this reaction. Subded😁
So far I have absolutely loved the direction they took with this album after the previous album. They are beyond versatile... they can play any genre! It's amazing 😆
The story is based on The story of Pygmalion and Galatea ... Pygmalion, a famous sculptor, falls in love with his own creation and wishes to give this creation life 6:45 When you love Yes, as much as many of us do. It's very moving if you've had/have someone in your life, you've loved that much...
Hey, don't forget the remaining classics from albums you've already tasted. Your Move/All Good People (the Yessongs version is the definitive one) and To Be Over come immediately to mind.
Lee - you'll make it! Your channel's doing great and you're moving in a positive direction. The Yes Saturdays are really fun. Sorry about your family situation- I thought you were all living together. So many of us have gone through similar hard times. Best wishes. ❤🙏
Thank you. I appreciate that. Yeah we were but not for the past couple months. I see them whenever I can honestly but with no car and money so tight I don't see them as much as I want :(
@@L33Reacts Please stay strong, it's so hard but remember there are good people hopefully to help you; even with encouraging words and positive affirmations. I hope you're enjoying doing your channel.
thanks for another great reaction man! We feel ya :) I can't help but giving you some tips for other tracks with each reaction. I know I'm not a paying subscriber but still, it's enthousiasm. It's true Yes's modern sounds is somewhat different, as was everything in the 80's in the end. (In response to your after thoughts) They do 'redeem' themselves with later albums like 'Magnification' . However before going forward, you might actually wanna dive in the 1969 'Time and a Word' album. It's insane what sound they bring in their second album, for example 'The Prophet' is one of the most underrated unknown epic songs of all time ever just for the organ intro alone. It's one the deepest, eeriest heaviest and yet most soul touchingly beautiful organ plays ever introduced into modern music. But all of those tracks contain a certain jazzy fusion style that is rare for today and no less proggy and musical than yes' other masterpieces.
One of the best yes songs. You mentioned Steve on acoustic guitar. Suggest you review Steve Howe live at Montreaux Jazz Festival 1979. No one else has so far.
It took me a long time to appreciate this song by Yes, my favorite band, because it's such a spare and straightforward love song. It's very nice, but I prefer the Steve Howe/Annie Haslam version. Still, even though it's not my favorite Yes song, I do like it. As far as sweet songs by Yes, I prefer "Wondrous Stories," which actually is the most beautiful song ever, IMHO. ❤✌
Living paycheck to paycheck is how it's been since Ronnie Raygun. Lower yer expectations between what has passed and what may happen and the stress lessens. And later, enjoy Awaken, which Jon said turned out to be the fifth movement of Tales. It indeed belongs. All things good, in good time.
"Turn of the Century" is between “Going for the One" and "Parallels" on the album. (The sounds at the end that you heard are from "Parallels"’ beginning :-)
Steve Howe is unmatched as an acoustic guitar player in rock. His writing and his playing are incredible. I’ve been listening to music for 50 years, I have over 8000 album… I and I still haven’t heard anyone better on acoustic in rock. I suspect that it’s because of the fact that he is so versatile and combines elements of various musical styles better than anyone. There’s lot of acoustic gems on his solo albums too! In early ‘80s he was asked by Steve Morse to play on an acoustic duet titled « Up in the Air ». Howe recorded his part in the UK and sent the tapes to Morse. Morse commented on the fact that Howe sounded better than him. And Morse is no slouch! Her was voted best overall guitar player in Guitar Player’s magazine, after Howe had won it five time in a row and wasn’t eligible anymore (after 5 times he ended up in Guitar Player’s Hall of Fame.
Steve said he and Jon are on good terms but they have issues when they work together, so he doesn't want to work with Jon. Steve did contribute some guitar work on 1 song for Jon's 1,000 hands album though. Alan did create some of the initial riffs/theme for this song, he played piano also and though he didn't really play keys for Yes, he did use piano to compose some stuff for them.
Hey L33! - that quiet pipe-organ bit in the last 15 seconds is actually a small intro to the next track, Parallels, but which has been resolutely stuck on the end of Turn Of The Century ever since they started digitising music, and it drives me mad. Chris is playing a Gibson Triumph bass, probably tuned away from regular EADG, and that's what's allowing him to play those very high notes in the piano solo section. Alan is playing some tuned percussion, including timpani in the joyous E major section after the piano solo. Of *course* Steve can play bass... he does it on his solo albums, but you can see him on a Rick at the R&R Hall of Fame induction for Owner of a Lonely Heart ruclips.net/video/tQ-IQalrAz8/видео.html&ab_channel=Rock%26RollHallofFame
Honestly Jon and Steve and Rick are just insane... Chris is a perfect backbone for them and adds so much to the band obviously... but when Jon and Steve are on their game. .. they are untouchable lol glad you enjoyed my friend
@@L33Reacts I think Rick is really insane... He record about 100 LP. Imagine this... concert on ice. He do that. But his Lp journey to the centre of earth an return to the centre of earth is epic. And 6 wifes of henry 8. But Steve is in my opinion very underrated and this is not right. I love his riffs and solos.
There are some songs that can't have TALKING ANALYSIS destroying it's beauty !!!! And this is absolutely one of them. TEARS are the only language applicable
Lee, look up what the song means. Then watch the vid from Keys to Ascension. You will then understand what a heartbreaking song Turn of the Century is. Sometimes doing research is required for YES music!!!!!🎵🎼🎶😎
@@martinreed5964 Yeah, I didn't want to do anything marginal. That Howe style was what I wanted - or nothing. I got nothing. So I'm happy to just listen to him.
It's definitely a great one. Probably the prettiest song I've ever heard... but I keep saying that about yes songs so they just have to be the prettiest band I've ever heard 🤧 🤣
I think you are thinking of music with ties to the ‘baroque’ era. Very ornate and busy, but beautiful. There is no band that really compares to Yes. And I know what you’re saying, that when “it’s just Steve and John” it’s incredible”; that may be but the more you listen the more you realize it’s never “just” any one to two but all of them. When I would go to a show back in the day, I would shift my focus from Steve, to Jon, to Chris, and to Rick and whoever sat on drums and just be amazed at all of them! Parallels next? And just so you know, we are all, more and more, Closer to the Edge, not just financially speaking, but politics and media just getting more divisive. Stay the course and stay with Yes!
Yup I am going through the album track by track and I believe parallels Is next 👌 can't wait for next week as always. Steve and Jon work magic together.. it's crazy!!
I know Alan white was instrumental in writing this song however it seems kind of funny to have a drummer reviewing the song that has almost no percussion
What you heard at the end was a very faint bit of marimba played by Alan White and I think the chords are the same as the song that follows, Parallels. BTW, did you do Awaken? That song is like walking through the gates of heaven.
Sonic Perspectives: Scott Medina interviews Alan White (2019) (SM) Well, we like to close our interviews with, with a song from the band.
My wife died 13 years ago. It so transformed me.
I'm sorry for your loss.
I hope the rest of your day brings you more joy and fun........ We're use to hearing you say "you're having a good day too"........ May more fun come your way today friend ! 🤟
Yay! Another Yes classic on Yes Saturday 😊😊😊
This is definitely a classic, I can tell. I was moved again to tears during the premiere and had to fix myself before going to work 🙃 🤣
I heard you sniff....a song for tears and joy.
If you do Wonderous Stories, you should do the video of their official release. You will see Steve play a Spanish Laud, Rick's magic fingers flowing over the keys, Chris booming his bass, and Jon strumming away. Nice reaction to Turn.
I will keep that in mind. I am definitely doing it. Glad you enjoyed it! 😉
Yes have a few excellent latter day things. The Keys to Ascension studio tracks in particular. Magnification and The Ladder are also quite good.
I love the "Keys" stuff (which was gathered together on the "Keystudio" album). It's all amazingly powerful.
This song with Jon ‘s heavenly vocals have a spiritual feeling that lifts all that listen to this, to another higher level!
Magical !! Love that you can feel and express emotion.
Thanks Stanley I appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Alan started writingb this song on guitar. Steve wrote more and added all the little details. Jon wrote the vocal parts and lyrics. Pure magic.
Sonic Perspectives:
Scott Medina interviews Alan White (2019)
(SM) Well, we like to close our interviews with, with a song from the band.

I must be thinking of a photo of Alan playing an acoustic guitar on a bus with Steve and Jon - @@cazgerald9471
This is my go to album during December crisp cold days. to me it just hits me at that time of year love it .
Yes has a way of "Decrazifying" your life.
Beatiful ..magnificent
It absolutely is my friend
Absolutely gorgeous.
This is a great album, with songs like Going for the One, this song and Awaken, what more could you ask from a band...
Seeing you crying is priceless!... 😊 And it couldn't be otherwise .
It was beautiful for sure... (the song that is) lol
masterpiece
Steve can play bass also. Listen again and it will fill your heart and loose the world for a short while plus, it will always sound this good. I bought this in 1977. You need to buy the vinyl and enjoy the cover art and go deep into the songs lyrics and all the notes.
I'm a bit geeky on Yes though.
Steve one the best guitarrists ..ever
He 💯 % is. He is an icon!
Hope you get to see your children more friend !!!!
Lovely!!
It really is ❤
Annie Haslam (Renaissance) sings this with Steve Howe soloing on guitar. Worth a listen.
Oh she was on my mind at the end there don't worry... they really are modern troubadours. What a band...
Pygmalion, a famous sculptor, falls in love with his own creation and wishes to give this creation life
6:45 When you love Yes, as much as many of us do. It's very moving if you've had/have someone in your life, you've loved that much...
Pinnacle of yes abd prog
I wish I was more $$......I'd certainly patronize your patrion........
Hey, don't forget the remaining classics from albums you've already tasted. Your Move/All Good People (the Yessongs version is the definitive one) and To Be Over come immediately to mind.
I have no doubt we will get to all of them. I am addicted to them, if you can't tell haha 😆
I have also struggled hard and still have hardship. But this is all temporary; we are spiritual beings. It's heartbreaking- I hope you have some decent friends or relatives for support. I hope you're enjoying doing your channel.
thanks for another great reaction man! We feel ya :)
I can't help but giving you some tips for other tracks with each reaction. I know I'm not a paying subscriber but still, it's enthousiasm. It's true Yes's modern sounds is somewhat different, as was everything in the 80's in the end. (In response to your after thoughts)
They do 'redeem' themselves with later albums like 'Magnification' .
Awesome job!
Thank you Lee! ☮️❤️ this was a song Alan did the arrangements on. He may have written it as well.
Thanks for watching Nancy 😁 thats so cool he brought this to life... it's absolutely gorgeous.
Alan was credited as a co-writer on this song along with Jon and Steve Howe
It took me a long time to appreciate this song by Yes, my favorite band, because it's such a spare and straightforward love song. It's very nice, but I prefer the Steve Howe/Annie Haslam version. Still, even though it's not my favorite Yes song, I do like it. As far as sweet songs by Yes, I prefer "Wondrous Stories," which actually is the most beautiful song ever, IMHO. ❤✌
The Annie Haslam version is lovely. The Moraz piano solo on that album is also wonderful.
I was wondering what the hell that was.. even when I was editing it haha thank you for filling me in 🙃
Hey Lee! Hoping you are doing the video from Keys to Ascension. It shows the beautiful story of two lovers that is the Turn of the Century. 😢💔😎
😢
I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago...be ready my friend.
I'm Alive by Anderson Bruford, Wakeman and Howe (Yes without Squire) is a beautiful song too
@L33reacts I'm really proud of you progress. It's amazing that you see genius of Steve Howe, Rick and Jon. Yes it' wasn't just Chris and his bass.

Im so glad you reviewed this track, im newly subbed, and I really love you channel, bless you bro
Glad to have you bro! This was absolute bliss... Yes is perfection 🥰
its ok to talk to us about your bad day mate, here to support you
Thanks man I appreciate it... it means a lot. I really do have some bad days.. especially lately. It feels good yall care.
Steve Howe: He's the reason I started playing guitar! ... And he's the reason I stopped playing guitar.
yep, I realised I was never gonna be that good, so hung it up on the wall and left it there
@@martinreed5964 Yeah, I didn't want to do anything marginal. That Howe style was what I wanted - or nothing. I got nothing. So I'm happy to just listen to him.
He is absolutely insane dude. I mean he is straight up SERENADING right now😂
Is this a good YES song..? “I’m sure we know..”
It's definitely a great one. Probably the prettiest song I've ever heard... but I keep saying that about yes songs so they just have to be the prettiest band I've ever heard 🤧 🤣
hey the world over here in the UK is the same mate
All of western society is in a free fall at this point it feels like.
You said you like lore, you have to listen to Circus of Heaven off of tormato
I know Alan white was instrumental in writing this song however it seems kind of funny to have a drummer reviewing the song that has almost no percussion
You have to have to HAVE TO do Wonderous Stories off this same album. End of trip favorite. Wink.
I will be doing the whole album! Don't worry:)
I reserve the right to worry just a little bit. LOL.@@L33Reacts
What you heard at the end was a very faint bit of marimba played by Alan White and I think the chords are the same as the song that follows, Parallels.
BTW, did you do Awaken? That song is like walking through the gates of heaven.
Please listen to Parallels from the same album -- it's a Chirs song
I believe that is the next track so we will be doing it next week!
cool!!! thanks
