I grew up in the 1970's. The pigments on crayons used to be much stronger. It was lovely. By the 80's, it was cheaper to use less pigments and more wax. Very, very upsetting to go from a medium that had the vibrancy of oil pastels, to now a dull candle. Love your videos!

I almost got held back in the first grade because of this. I was having a hard time staying in the lines, turns out I needed glasses. They told me to outline it but gave me absolutely no explanation but outline. If you're a first grader and you've never heard the term "outline" before, where do you think you put the outline? That's right! I did it on the outside of whatever I was coloring. They had a meeting with my parents and everything. I was pissed. Like, you gave me absolutely no explanation at all except to outline it and I did outline it you just didn't tell me that the outline should be inside. I was a very literal child.

I always achieved straight A’s in math and science but as a kid, likely the only kid, who could fail colouring in primary school. Until recently I hadn’t picked up a crayon in decades. I had even forgotten the way they taste. Your excellent tutorial has raised my recent level up to a solid D. I’ve become a closet crayon artist when the laboratory door is closed and nobody can see me. However, I still have the urge to peel the paper off of crayons and have recently had an urge to eat paste. Cheers from western Canada.

When I was in elementary school in the 80s my art teacher taught us a method where you color a design using pressure, then cover that design with a black crayon; again using pressure. You then proceeded to scratch of whatever areas you wished to expose with a penny then used a hairdryer on low to lightly melt the left over built up wax to create cool ass pictures.
