This one was the anthem of the Democratic Army of Greece (ΔΣΕ), which was the military wing of the Greek communist party during the Greek Civil War. The man in the photo, general Markos Vafiadis, was the head of the army.
After World War Two, Greek communist partisan groups (Including ELAS as mentioned in the song) and the communist government controlled much of the Greek territories, and the persecution of leftists began. The various leftist partisan groups merged into one army, the Democratic Army of Greece, and carried on the armed struggle as the civil war began.
The letter in their emblem, Δ, stands for democracy.

No, it seems like you don't know history. Like the other guy said, the Greek Communist Army could usually be found in the mountains fighting. So they are the ones creating a roar in the mountains.
Σύντροφοι, να καταλαβαίνουμε τι γράφει ο άλλος. Έχει δίκιο να μην γνωρίζει τα γεγονότα και τις συνδέσεις της ελληνική ιστορία αφού οι ιστορίες των λαών είναι τεράστιες για να τις μελετήσεις σε βάθος. Οπότε το "δεν γνωρίζεις ιστορία" είναι λίγο υπερβολικό και χοντροκομμένο. ΆΛλωστε σε επίπεδο συμβολισμών έχει δίκιο. Ο Όλυμπος είναι σύμβολο του ελληνικού πολιτισμού και η μάχη των κομμουνιστών περνάει πάντα μεσα από τα λαϊκά σύμβολα της πατρίδας και του πολιτισμού άσχετα αν ο στόχος είναι βαθύτερος και ξεπερνάει τα όρια της πατρίδας για μια πανανθρώπινη κοινωνία.
Nice comment! The song talking about the unite of greeks communists and the creation of DSE (Democratic Army of Greece) in the area of Olympus. You know that the communist at all the countries are also great patriots and at this time they was try to give courage at the communists fighters and at all the greek folk to fight against the greek fascists for freedom.
But realy, I thought the same like you when I was listen the song for the first time, that its a metaphor, the greeks communist fight like Gods against fascists. And I believe that parallel with the objektiv situation there is also a symbolic meaning, all the heroes at every country using or compine their myths and history to take courage and fight with more power against the enemys.

Tito's aiding of Greek communists was close to non existent, he assassinated Greek Communists out of his own chauvinism. Tito was an extreme anti-communist, if you read the letters of the general secretary of the Greek communist party you'll find out that Tito was secretly working with the monarchofascists. Actual communists like Hoxha and Dimitrov were supporting the revolutionaries till the end.
