    Black women make me so proud. We've come so far, figured so much out about ourselves through our own research, own science and experimentation, and plain old simple trial and error. No one took our hand and guided us, or gave us the key to our knowledge. But here we are speaking on lopo hair and the reasoning behind it. Look how far we've come. I love us for real. Lol 🖤💕🖤💕

    • @Ferrist1
      @Ferrist1 4 года назад +144

      Use warm/hot water. I also like to put my deep conditioner on and then wrap it in my hot heads cap and sit under a hood or get one of those portable hoods to attach to your blow dryer and just let it go for 15 mins so the heat can open the strands of hair and let the moisture through. Then I rinse in warm/hot water, apply a leave in, a lotion, and a sealant. Plus I water my hair with a homemade rejuvenating spray, daily (my hair is 4c lopo and loves to be watered like a plant apparently. Lol.) This routine has been helping me stay moisturized. Hope this helps even a little.

    • @MsFavored01

      I always deep condition and I heat my products before I apply them. Do not put your products in the microwave lol ....I put some water in a microwave safe bowl and heat the water for about 5 to 8 minutes. Then I put my products in the water for about 5-8 minutes. I apply them to my hair using the LCO method. HUGE difference from when I didn’t heat my products before applying them #GameChanger

  • @wildflower462
    @wildflower462 4 года назад +25

    Good video. That’s why I rinse my hair with water for at least 4 minutes before cleansing my hair. I also do the LCO method and try to stay away from protein treatments. I thought I needed protein because of trying to have a moisture/protein balance. Well after using protein my hair starting breaking...so I found out low porosity hair is also protein sensitive... and my hair hates coconut oil. Just about all brands have some type of coconut oil in their products. Go figure. Anyway, I use henna as my protein which is no way near as harsh and a protein mask...at least for my hair anyway. I’ve been using henna for over 15 years. I use henna once a month and moisture for the rest of the month. It’s a weird balance but I think that’s what works for me...at least for now. I also noticed I can’t leave most moisture masks in my hair overnight it makes my hair look like a wet noodle. Hope this helps someone with the same issues.

    I love that you soaked your hair to show us. I HAVE to wash my hair while showering, bc the humidity & constant flow of water on my hair is what makes the true curl pattern come out and it’s takes at least 10mins of being in that environment before I feel that it is a good time to put the shampoo and conditioner on. With low porosity you can definitely FEEL the difference. it’s better for us to have a long lasting protective style bc it’s hard to “refresh” or add more moisture midweek without wetting and messing up the set styles like wash and go’s or twist outs. Simply because you can’t just slap on product ... it’ll literally just sit there & have a reverse effect. (At least in my experience)

      You can also do the porosity test. Take a strand of hair and set it on top of some water in a bowl or cup. Let it sit for a couple of hours. If your stays on top it’s low, if it sinks it’s high porosity meaning it absorbs water easily

      Mimi Brown That test is faulty for many reasons. Here’s a few: There’s no set temperature for that test and everybody’s doing it in different temperatures, you have to consider buildup, some people are dropping the hair into the cup of water and some people are pushing the hair under the water to see if it will soak up enough water to stay afloat. There’s more too...and nobody can find the original guide for this. The finger test is faulty too.

    I found out I had low porosity hair from the "float" test. It helped me to figure out which products and oils work better for my hair (grapeseed & jojoba work for me but coconut oil does not). And I do the LCO method instead of LOC because my hair retains moisture better that way.

  • @bebejolie1
    @bebejolie1 4 года назад +1

    Thank you so much for this!!! I absolutely love this!!! My porosity is on the full spectrum. My hair is primarily 4b/c, with 4a around the back and front perimeter. My 4b/c is low to medium porosity. My 4a areas are medium to high porosity. The 4a areas quickly absorb water, and can easily experience hygral fatigue on wash day. The 4b/c section take a while to become fully saturated with water. It also prefers heat when deep conditioning. I no longer do a cool rinse at the end of wash day, because this makes the lower porosity areas feel stiff and dry. My 4b/c are loves moisture with a little bit of protein, while the 4a areas love protein and a little moisture. As a result, my hair loves products that have a good moisture and protein balance. It’s taken me a long time to finally learn this about my hair’s true porosity, but learning and truly understanding it has been a key game changer in my hair regimen.🌺♥️

    • @bebejolie1
      @bebejolie1 4 года назад

      Zoeyw1 Hi there! This is a hard question for me to answer because my regimen consists of 100% ayurvedic herbs and all natural diy ingredients. I make all of my own diy concoctions/treatments. Whatever product you choose to use, just make sure to pay close attention to it’s ingredient list. The cleaner and more natural the ingredients are, the better it is for your hair. Be careful of products that claim to be natural, but yet contain a bunch of fillers and unnecessary ingredients.
      I use the LOC/LCO/LO method to moisturize my hair. I keep it really simple by using 3 diy ingredients. I start off by using my moisturizing and strengthening herbal tea leave-in conditioning spritz. Followed by my Ayurvedic infused oil, and finally, seal with my whipped butter. I focus the whipped butter primarily on my ends. I hope this helped.🌺♥️

I wasn’t taking the time to really pay attention to my hair for awhile, but today was wash day & as I was washing my hair I finally noticed something... that being that my hair takes FOREVER to get drenched with water. I noticed that my curls wouldn’t activate right away and that i ended up having to keep my head underneath the water longer... but this is the first video i’ve seen that really just locked that in for me! thanks girl! 🤗

    This video was so good...I actually have really high porosity hair naturally....i can wet my hair and no water will run out 😂😂but it gets dry really fast so it sucks but I think it's really cool that you came up with such a thoughtful video🥰

    That last point was really handy! My hair starts off puffy when dry but as soon as water hits it, it instantly clings to my face and back haha. This was good to know thanks!

    Very informative. I love how you gave visual representations. I've been so confused about the whole porosity situation. I never noticed the small beads of water that sit on my hair. As I was watching your video, I sprayed my hair and it did just that. Tysm!

    Low porosity here and I understand the struggle . I really need to buy hooded hair steamer . I’ve been using a clothing steamer lol . It works but it’s not the most convenient thing to use . And yes my hair thrives with indirect heat otherwise nothing is penetrating 😩.

    Thank you for this video. Seeing your demonstration has made this topic so much easier to understand. I now see what the mist sitting on your hair looked like. I tried the strand test in the cup of water which did not work. The first time the hair sank to the bottom. I took it out, let it dry, and it floated the whole day on top of the water. Which confused me because it sank the first time then floated the second time.

    My hair is pin straight but cannot accept moisture unless i wash my hair in warm to hot water. Any time i use room temp to cold, my hair feels so brittle and dry! I found that twisting my hair when it's a little damp helps keep it moisturized. Im sure there's more products to use on damp hair, i wonder what they could be!

    This was awesome! Like you said, I have heard it explained and read about it and knew what my own hair did, but just wasn't for some reason positive or maybe more so that I didn't feel qualified to know....but yea, my hair does the puff thing and before that my hair is like duck feathers, where the outside looks as if it's wet, but it's just big and if you pick up that very top layer, the hair is totally dry. So I need to look at different ways of deep conditioning I guess to help with the moisture my hair needs.
    Thanks so much for this!!! :)

    Manes by mell did a scientific yet basic video explaining . In short, porosity is a scale of 5 (1 low 5 high.) Curly virgin hair starts off low porosity. 1 is unrealistic, untouched by even the sun. Most virgin hair is a 2, you can usually comb through this with just a lot of water. 3 is usually some sort of altering has been done, dyes, relaxers, etc. 4 is severely damaged and needs extreme care to avoid breaking off. 5 is rare as well and the hair will literally be falling out with no chance of repair.
