Many years ago, I took in a declawed cat whose former "parent" couldn't keep when she moved (disclaimer: the former "parent" was not the person who had him declawed) Every so often, I would find him aggressively digging at his paws when he was cleaning himself. The exacerbated look on his face when he did this spoke to me as "Hey, there's something not right here." Sadly, Marias passed several years ago, but the memory of his expression still brings me to tears if I think about it too hard.
Thank you so much for sharing Marias’ story. It’s heartbreaking to think about the challenges he endured, but it’s clear he found love and care in your home. You gave him the kindness and comfort he truly deserved, and his memory lives on through the compassion you showed. Declawing is such a painful practice, and it’s stories like yours that help raise awareness. Sending hugs your way as you remember your sweet Marias.
I have had my cat since last September (she is already 10 years old) I wanted I cat for a long time, but I was on stage for a long time. I never knew if and where my new job would be. So I could not do that to a cat, moving all the time. I haven't been on stage since Covid hit... it brought me something positive: a cat (and a "normal" job😢... but everything has its time😊)
You're absolutely right-declawing is a controversial and often harmful practice. It's great that you're staying informed and checking with your vet. Cats deserve to keep their claws for their health and well-being. Thank you for being such a caring cat parent!
@@lisettegroot3789 It sounds like your cat has brought so much joy and positivity into your life! It’s heartwarming to hear how things fell into place, even after such challenging times. Cats truly have a way of bringing comfort and love when we need it most. Wishing you and your lovely 10-year-old kitty all the best!
Thanks for information - it was very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
