This is a quick 5 min video showing the power of Rustoff. it's my go to rust remover. Hope you find this helpful.
Thanks for this video Geoff. I've been taking rust off garden tools before I sharpen them (I have a small sharpening business) as an added bonus for customers. WD40 and steel wool was too laborious, White Vinegar works far better than I expected but takes around 24 hours. This is exactly what I need.
tannic acid is a much better long term use converting the rust to a much more stable oxide and can be painted directly or left as a black metal like cast iron. also much much safer
Interesting, so can you wipe the rust off or does it just turn it to oxide, and how quickly does it work, thanks
@@geoffhoyle479 you'll need to wire brush most of the caked rust off, as it converts the rust to a blue passivate, doesn't loosen it up really. Phosphoric is great as an etch for aluminium though, leaves a black passivate which is a great bondable substrate for coatings or adhesives
Is that just phosphoric acid if so at what percentage? Thanks
This was 75% I think, but get the strongest you can lay your hands on
Where do u buy the phosphoric acid??
Not sure if you’re in the U.S…if so Home Depot sells Klean Strip which is phosphoric acid
Hi, is the acid harmful to the touch?
Phosphoric acid isn't as strong as others, but even so, it will give you a chemical burn if left on the skin. Always wear gloves and wash off any splashes.
@@Realm-of-Horror Okay. Thank you
I buy it from the internet, and it doesn't make much of a smell, but its always good to wear a mask for all sorts of jobs. A mask can only be a good thing.
man Phosphoric Acid is to convert oxide to iron phosphate, if you want just remove rust use strong muriatic - Hydrochloric acid , then clean with water an paint it with the primer
Do you need a mask
Not if you apply it carefully BUT wear a face mask and goggles just in case.
