Great videos, John! They've been super helpful in getting started with surfcasting. Was very glad to see your books available for Kindle too. I'll be picking up both. Please keep the videos coming!
Kool vid Dr Skinner ! I have a couple of those plugs and never fished one , nor did I know any of the variables or techniques. Nice to see a vintage setup with Penn 704z ! Thx for work !
Many thanks for this and all of your videos. Very informative for me. I really did not understand the pros and cons of bottle plugs until I watched this video. I have learned a great deal from your channel. Please keep up the good work.
hey john thanks for this vid. and the darter one. lol one night I was the only person using a darter on the beach and using the information you showed, help me be the only guy catching fish.
Dear Mr. John I just start it fishing last year...I love your video...I wish there is a spot like this in jersey. Can you recommend any rod and reel for me...thanks Mr. John
Again ..gold dust advice nicely presented.. The bottle plug is now on my list. I used Pencil poppers a lot over here in the uk.. But they do lack 'dig in' in surf conditions . I do use a Sebile Splasher but that has too much dig in at times especially in strong tides. Incidentally I'm in the uk and all these style and lures transfer to our smaller non stripped bass ! Any uk anglers viewing try these methods and don't be afraid of these big lures, I regularly catch schoolies f on them. But I can quite a few big fish too.. And you will find you're average capture size will increase ..I haven't used live bait for years!
Sorry regards typos.. Uk anglers do not replace the hooks with smaller ones leave the 2/0s in. I use pilchard oil extract on lures. To pull the fish in and induce takes when they are fickle like uk bass can be!
Just finished your bucktail book, great stuff. Can't wait to see the improvements in my results. My next step is using your Fisher's Log software. Have you considered making it a smart phone app?
Hi John great video I see you use 50 lb flurocarbon on 30 lb braid I use 30 lb braid also but i always matched the braid for eaiser break off if needed should I increase my poundage. Thanks Ed
Hey John, Just a quick question, do you have an opinion on darters? i recently used started using them more and more but not as much success and i had hoped, any advice on how to work them correctly? or do you plan an making a video on them? thanks best of luck this season!
Hey john do you ever have a problem with it not stay underwater for some reason my Gibbs seems to come up on the surface and won't dig in I'm thinking the wood makes a diffrance? Thanks happy holidays
Thanks for the video John and I just ordered your book but while I wait for it do you cover what you might use in the Chesapeake Bay? Based on you video it would seem the diamond jig would makes sense? I've been jigging alot with some success but would like to try something new?
Just dropped by accidentally , ...nice and informative video this is . I'm a freshwater angler located in northern Germany and now I'm wondering , whether such plugs might work on local northern pike as well , often have windy weather providing a good chop on the water , so topwater or sub-surface lures generating some noise and commotion would be in order on such days . Probably going to turn down such plug some day to try......? Greetz , 61diemai
John, did you use an 11 foot rod instead of one of your 9 footers because you had to make long casts to reach the fish, or because the waves were so big, or both? Also, why are you using the 706Z instead of your Van Staal 200? Is it because the heavier 706Z balances the 11 foot rod better?
I have a Luxor ( my father’s) and a RU pacific (mine) from my childhood and I always thought of loading braid on them, but didn’t think old style spinners would fish it.
John, Another awesome videos.. Seriously... What can you not catch fish with?? Have you try using a broccoli??? I put some money that you still catch!! LOL.. Just awesome.
Hello John. I see that you use the yellow color at night with this plug. Do you feel that color matters when fishing at night? If you had to get this plug in one color, what would it be?
Hey John, so yesterday I went out and fished out front in pretty rough conditions. I used the bottle plug and held it rod tip up like you and gave it a few fast cranks but it felt like the bottle didn’t dive and the waves would just push the plug to shore. Can these be fished with the rod tip down and give it a few fast cranks once it hits the water? Also since the waves kept pushing it closer to shore I would retrieve much faster to keep contact with the plug but it was way to fast for any fish to be interested
john i have a problem i use the gopro 2 on the 960p and 30 fps for recording my fishing and ever time i go to upload it on youtube it goes to 360p why and the only reason im asking you is becuase i know you use the gopro and you work at bnl as a programmer(i think your a progammer) the only reason i know this is becuase my dad works at bnl so please help me get it back to 960p
Hey John. The fishing time is comming soon do you have a fishing report line for LI er?Iwould love to know when to start going & where there hitting.we all need a true local report that's not a week old? Just a idea.pay a fee ,stay informed.bayrat
Super video John. Yours is the only series from the U.S. that has any relevance to what I do here in the UK. Many thanks. Raymondo
John your video taught me enough to land one of my first of a handful of stripers I've caught from surf. Thank you!
Thanks for the great videos and all the much appreciated info! Just bought both your books. Here's to a great season!

+mexican707 Thanks for sharing that. Glad I could help.
Great video John, very informative and thanks for sharing.
Love watching your videos ! Keep them coming
another great video John!!! I learn so much from all the information you share, I wish I could go out fishing with you sometime!!
Great tip with the pulsating of the rod tip once the plug is "dug in" no suprise another great video
I don't ocean fish, I freshwater fish, but I learned something new! Thank you!
What kind of depth do you get with these plugs and can it be adjusted with bending the eye like you do with the metal lip swimmers?
Hey John, just noticed in this video- you don't use a finger protector/athletic tape for casting?
Dear Mr. John
I just start it fishing last year...I love your video...I wish there is a spot like this in jersey. Can you recommend any rod and reel for me...thanks Mr. John
John great video and Info-
What Knot do you tie to your Tactical Angler Clip ???

How far out are your casts going? I can really only surf fish, but I never know how far my casts need to get out in order to catch fish.
John,
Do you keep both trebles on or do you change out the hook and/or the hook style?
How many meters would you say you are casting out
Just finished your bucktail book, great stuff. Can't wait to see the improvements in my results. My next step is using your Fisher's Log software. Have you considered making it a smart phone app?
Nice Video, but how you can know this beach its good beach to fishing? thanks!
Can you do a Super Strike darter video?
Hey sir how do you like the penn 706? See you not using the v.s! :-)
Hi John great video I see you use 50 lb flurocarbon on 30 lb braid I use 30 lb braid also but i always matched the braid for eaiser break off if needed should I increase my poundage.
Thanks Ed
I do that because the business end gets more abuse and wear.
Do you have color a preference?
Hey John, Just a quick question, do you have an opinion on darters? i recently used started using them more and more but not as much success and i had hoped, any advice on how to work them correctly? or do you plan an making a video on them? thanks best of luck this season!
Rob Benti Mostly a night plug. Use them like a bottle plug.
What time of year is this footage from?
Ho would a slug go 9" work here?I like to fish slug gos9" is there A time you would not use one and go with a plug?
What time of year?
Hey john do you ever have a problem with it not stay underwater for some reason my Gibbs seems to come up on the surface and won't dig in I'm thinking the wood makes a diffrance? Thanks happy holidays
No problem at all with the Super Strike. Just dig it in and keep pressure on it.
hey john, great informational vids....what size snap swivel/clip do you use to attach your lures? thanx! nate
125# tactical anglers
very good. ordering now. thanx john! learned alot of new technique and insight from your vids. much appreciated!
Thanks for the video John and I just ordered your book but while I wait for it do you cover what you might use in the Chesapeake Bay? Based on you video it would seem the diamond jig would makes sense? I've been jigging alot with some success but would like to try something new?
Have you tried swim shads? Simple, cheap, and a fun plug. Also, can't go wrong with bombers and sp minnows
Hi, John I like your videos. Are the fish hitting in the white water blanket section? How deep is that water under the blanket area?
Sometimes less than a foot
Do you have a color preference?
Just dropped by accidentally , ...nice and informative video this is .

That size plug should work well with pike.
John, did you use an 11 foot rod instead of one of your 9 footers because you had to make long casts to reach the fish, or because the waves were so big, or both? Also, why are you using the 706Z instead of your Van Staal 200? Is it because the heavier 706Z balances the 11 foot rod better?
Both. The 706 is a better fit for the 11-footer.
I have a Luxor ( my father’s) and a RU pacific (mine) from my childhood and I always thought of loading braid on them, but didn’t think old style spinners would fish it.
The 706 works becaue it has a very freely spinning line roller. I'm not sure about the Luxor.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Yes, I was wondering about the roller as well. I think it may be fixed. It is at my other place, so I’ll check in a few days. Thx
John,
Another awesome videos..
Seriously... What can you not catch fish with??
Have you try using a broccoli???
I put some money that you still catch!! LOL..
Just awesome.
Nice stripes where ya catch em at
I’m very late to the game on this one, but I was wondering if that was an old style Penn reel that you were using braid with? Thanks/Tom
That Penn 706 is still sold today and is an excellent reel for braid.
Hello John. I see that you use the yellow color at night with this plug. Do you feel that color matters when fishing at night? If you had to get this plug in one color, what would it be?
yellow
Thanks.
john i missed you posting videos its been so long

Sounds like there wasn't much lateral water movement. Try cranking real hard when it touches down and it should start pulsating the rod tip.
@@JohnSkinnerFishingkeeping the rod tip up as well or will it work fine with rod tip down
Down is fine.
can you take a guess about how far were you getting with your casts ..thanks
It would be a lousy guess. I'll say 150-200 ft.
quick question. do you think surf fishing when it's raining effect catching stripers ?
+mexican707 I'm a big fan of low pressure systems, and these are typically accompanied by rain.
+mexican707
If you can't fish at night, fish on overcast days. Bright, sunny days are not as good.
do you have a good spot on li you can share?
Montauk seems to be the best
John do you recommend floating or sinking bottle plugs thanks
I love Super Strikes. Those are not floaters.
Thanks
John when do you usually start to fish for flounder or fluke? What bait is the best?
Second week of May. Bucktail and Gulp swimming mullets.
Where do you buy your bucktail?
valeriy gritchin
Many tackle shops have them.
What color bucktail do you prefer?
What tide is best for inshore fluke fishing?
Hola por favor que caña .gracias desde Ecuador
Surprised you weren't using the Bucktail
Hey John, did' t see any of your videos using cut bait for striper you don't like to fish with cut bait ?...
Correct. I don't fish cut bait. I just enjoy other methods more.
and looks to me more productive, Thanks for your videos they have a lot of information.
john i have a problem i use the gopro 2 on the 960p and 30 fps for recording my fishing and ever time i go to upload it on youtube it goes to 360p why and the only reason im asking you is becuase i know you use the gopro and you work at bnl as a programmer(i think your a progammer) the only reason i know this is becuase my dad works at bnl so please help me get it back to 960p
The videos default to 360p on YT, but the viewer can then change it to 480 or 720 or 1080. All is well. It's how mine works too.
yea i know about that but my video cant go any higher then 360.can it be my computer
Stephen Sr
I really don't know the answer for this one. it just works for me.
Where i can get the bottle plug ?? i look all over ,i cant find it !!
Many tackle stores in the northeast UScarry that, as do online stores. It's called a super strike little neck swimmer.
May I ask which size lure 2 3/8 oz?
bryan xee
It's the only size they make.
