    Let me know which bass you prefer! Kestrel or Kingfisher.
    To help spot the difference, Kestrel has a white binding around the neck, Kingfisher doesn't.

    Both basses sound great. Just depends on what sound you wanna go for. The Kestrel has the single coil pickups so the sound cuts thru more. But if you're wanting a big, beefy, humbucker tone, then the Kingfisher is the way to go. Also, the "Feel good" bass line was a nice touch, haha!

    • @LonnyEagletonMusic
      @LonnyEagletonMusic  4 года назад

      I would categorize the necks as medium-slim, with an emphasis on the slimmer side. Very comfortable shape, especially when playing high up on the fretboard. I would highly recommend either of these basses. Best of luck with your purchase!

  • @tedmowery46
    @tedmowery46 4 года назад +2

    Wow, its impossible to pick.
    The kingfisher is boomy and i love the low end power, the kestrel is lighter and cuts...
    I really prefer a 24 fret neck though - am currently on a squier vintagr modified jaguar and find myself out of frets frequently (most basses I've owned have been 24 fret basses, so I'm used to not stopping at 21 lol).
    Hmm, maybe change out one of the pickups on a kingfisher? With what, though, if i want bridge to really ✂️? Suggestions?
    I was strongly considering a kestrel before i saw this comparison and a few others. Thanks for doing this.

    • @LonnyEagletonMusic
      @LonnyEagletonMusic  4 года назад +3

      I too prefer a 24 fret neck, those extra few notes can definitely come in handy! And yeah both basses are great, just depends on the situation. I find myself using both equally.
      If you’re looking for some pickups to help the Kingfisher cut through, then maybe consider swapping in some active pickups to get that extra bite.

    • @tedmowery46
      @tedmowery46 4 года назад

      @@LonnyEagletonMusic specific suggestions on what pickup you'd throw in the bridge position?
      Am also needing to upgrade my bass rig (currently using Hartke B60 for practice), so I may have to forego the Kingfisher for a while.
      My choices are mostly Yamahas - RBX375 @ 250, TRBX305 @ 315, TRBX505 @ 370...
      Thoughts on which of those you think is closest to quality/tone of the Kingfisher?
      I've owned an RBX375 before, and even the rough Pawn Shop one I had was great, albeit active only (which I hate being a 9v slave, from the ones above, only the 505 is switchable between active/passive).

      Lonny Eagleton if you don’t mind me asking how do you cope with anxiety and stage fright while performing I have pretty bad stage fright even when I’m in a big group like choir it sucks feeling that way but I’m working on not being nervous or having stage fright it has been a big dream of mine to be in a band and experience what other bands experience

    • @LonnyEagletonMusic
      @LonnyEagletonMusic  4 года назад +1

      Mo 2Wheelz stage fright is something we all experience at one time or another. Some of us more than others, but remember you’re not alone in feeling that way. It’s a natural part of being a performer.
      The best way to beat it is to prepare as much beforehand as you can. Being nervous is simply being afraid of the future, therefore if you know your parts extremely well you should have less to fear because there’ll be a better chance you’ll play well if you’re well prepared.
      And at the end of the day just remember that music is meant to be fun and to entertain. It’s not heart surgery, it’s not politics, it’s simply enjoyment through sound. And if we make a mistake then that’s TOTALLY ok! :)

    Sadly my new 2021 PRS Kingfisher FB is going back as the noise when even jamming with someone else is horrendous & the pickups are so weak they don't even make any of my amps input gain lights ,light up at all...my dream bass shattered...i don't beleive their real humbuckers as the noise is crazy with any amp...how come yours does'nt buzz and make terrible noises ?...everything i read people are complaining about the Kingfisher being over noisy by miles...mine is terrible & going back today...sas ,it is beautifuly made but no good if i cannot use it at band practise nevermind a gig....respect

    • @LonnyEagletonMusic
      @LonnyEagletonMusic  Год назад +1

      Hi Christopher, I’m so sorry to hear this. I haven’t experienced any issues with the Kingfisher having weak pickups. The signal has always been good for me.
      I do however know exactly what you mean about the pickups being noisy though. They buzz louder than any single-coil pickup I’ve ever owned. Very odd. It has caused some issues for me over the past couple years, my solution when playing live is just to crank up the noise gate in my Kemper Amp, which I believe is what I was doing in this video here. There are workarounds, but yeah that would be the one thing I’ve come to dislike about the Kingfisher, everything else is golden in my experience.

Thousands have people have returned them & they will not sell as unplayable, well mine was unplayable, dissapointed in Paul as just plain bad designed pickups, sad my dream bass turned out a piece of rubbish... They all make noise bud... not acceptable in 2022...my Fenders don't make a squeak as professionally screened, i ain't paying hundreds to fix the noise but still have such low output pickups... i take it noone test them at gig level.... cheers for your reply bud....

    Sorry my bad I didn’t notice or watch your video to the end when you were playing with your fingers the Zepplin song definitely sounds warmer with the fingers but not too much difference in pick up sound. Are they the same pick ups in the Krestal versus the Kingfisher. And what’s the upgrade to the Crystal versus a Kingfisher besides the PRS signature on the head stock

    • @LonnyEagletonMusic
      @LonnyEagletonMusic  3 года назад +1

      Very different pickups in both! Kestrel has single-coil pickups. Kingfisher has humbucking pickups. Makes for quite a different sound, similar to a Jazz Bass vs a Precision Bass. Or a Stratocaster vs a Les Paul.
      Although the Kingfisher is a hair more expensive, it isn’t meant to be an “upgrade” from the Kestrel. Both are designed to stand on their own as their own sound. One definitely isn’t better or of higher quality than the other, they are simply different and their own individual instruments.

  • @stevenordstedt2535
    @stevenordstedt2535 3 года назад

    I bought the essay Kingfisher of the red one December 20 20 plays pretty good definitely a different feel and long scale to my 2005 Getty Lee Japanese jazz bass. But what’s the difference between the Krestal and the Kingfisher is there any difference in playability is it easier with the Krestal?

    • @LonnyEagletonMusic
      @LonnyEagletonMusic  3 года назад

      Hi Steve, playability is about the same on both. They’re designed to be in the same price point. Biggest difference is tonally, due to the fact that the Kestrel has single coil pickups, and the Kingfisher has humbucking pickups.
      The Kestrel will sound airier, hollower, and more chimey. The Kingfisher is beefier with more low end punch.

And the Krestal is $200 more correct and the Kingfisher both new

    • @LonnyEagletonMusic
      @LonnyEagletonMusic  3 года назад

      I believe the Kingfisher is about $150 more expensive than the Kestrel. The differences in tone are easier to hear with headphones on if that helps! Listen for the glassy quality of the Kestrel, and the thumpy quality of the Kingfisher.
