    FYI: An infrared thermometer is really useful to check battery, motor and brake heat after a ride and fits in the toolbox nicely. Great vid series! I got tired trying to convince people about the benefits of electric but your video's are doing it for me!

    I really like the bike and performance. For me, I would likely wear out before the battery. But, before going completely electric for mx (pro and amateur), the manufacturer's need to develop longer battery life or just make it easy (and reasonably affordable) to swap batteries. I might be wrong, but I think the other major manufacturer's have tentatively agreed on a common battery configuration. Make changing the battery a 2 minute job. For the skeptics, I get it. I love the feeling, smells, sounds and memories of 2 strokes and 4 strokes and I'm pro fossil fuels. It is the low maintenance, infinitely adjustable power and unrivaled performance of an electric mx bikes that just makes sense. Peace and go riding!

There is a battery manufacturer making pouch cells for airplanes up to about double the kWh/kg of what the Varg is running, ~500 Wh/kg. 5 more years of battery development and look out, E-Motos will be everywhere.

    MAn I' would like to see you do some single track and do a mileage run on that. I just rough calc I read that track is about 1 mile and about 2min/lap. That said 30 minutes should be around 15 miles or close to. That is at higher throttle, for me, at 65years old, I think I could make my 25 miles if I starrted with 100% and just used the 40hp setting. I have a 300XC-W and almost never open it up and seldom get above 3rd gear in the woods. At 25 miles I'm give out. Sure would be nice, no more kick starting, no more stalling on the side of a hill, no more pistons, no more cranks, no more premix, etc. Bring it home, spray it off, plug it in and done.

    Just looking at the numbers & assuming it’s at a steady rate of power drain he was able to ride 26 min before hitting the 20% indicator & noticeable power drop. He started riding at about the 3 min mark & hit the 20% around the 29min mark. So 87% to 20% in 26 min or 2.5769% battery per min of riding at his weight, skill level on that track. So that additional 13% would give him roughly another 5 min of ride time. So 31 minutes total at his level of variables. Probably plenty for most riders but definitely not enough for a pro at a 30min +2 lap national.
    Why is the battery only able to charge to 87% is another question & when will Stark fix that, update the SW?

  • @travelingmike40

    I think I heard you discussing a faster charger? I think 30 minutes is great riding time, 90 minutes charging is not. I normally ride a 30- rest 30 - ride 30- rest 30- ride a 3rd 30. I hope Stark is working on this. I still want my bike- but it gives me pause- this is something they need to do better. It is charging the same speed as an old Alta.

    • @bwhaskell
      @bwhaskell  Год назад

      Jumps straight, feels nimble with the instant torque. You have a lot of pitch control with electric. In a sense its safer, cuz if you start endoing you can correct it by simply wacking the throttle since you're not limited to a rev limiter in 2nd/3rd/4th/5th gear like you are on a gas bike. Hold it pinned in the air and the back tire whicks up to max speed quickly.

But what’s your sag? Clickers etc and how does the bike feel compare to the Alta or gas bike for you?

      My bike came with the forks about 5mm up in the clamps, sprung for my weight (of course), clickers set at 12 out, and sag was at 98mm. I put the forks flush in the clamps right away but decided to go back to 5mm since it felt like the front end was riding a bit high. Suspension feels great, just a few minor clicker adjustments but its still breaking in. I have some plans with a company that i'll announce here soon. Hard to compare to my Alta right now becuase it has air fork and custom valving. But so far, i'm really happy with the stock Varg suspension.

    This fact really raises a big concern regarding this bike being competitive 😕
    I hope they can do some magic in the SW to make it more efficient but right now (after they already enlarged the battery size) it's a disappointment in this area specifically.😥

    • @randyarnson9396
      @randyarnson9396 Год назад +3

      Agreed, just looking at the numbers & assuming it’s at a steady rate of power drain he was able to ride 26 min before hitting the 20% indicator & noticeable power drop.
