350z Transmission Fluid and Filter Change DIY - You don't have to remove the valve body!

  • Today we are changing both the transmission fluid (atf) and filter (screen) on my 2005 Nissan 350z. In case you missed the "ATF" portion this applies to the automatic transmissions. The process should be the same for the Infiniti G35 to my knowledge. This is for the automatic transmissions. This is a fairly straightforward and easy DIY and something that I feel has been neglected on nearly every used vehicle I purchase. Stay tuned and I'll show you how to do it! Keep in mind I am NOT a mechanic nor do I have any professional experience in this field.

Thanks for the DIY video from down under in New Zealand. A great tip I learned from another RUclipsr for fitting gaskets. Seat the gasket to the pan or the mating surface with a thin layer of RTV and let it set. Yes this means more prep to remove the next time its changed but makes the fitting process much more reliable as the gasket wont move. Subscribed!

I have a 370z with the 7AT auto, which Nissan says to only use Matic-S. Interestingly, if you actually look at the product sheet for Maxlife, it has Matic-S spec listed but with an asterisks, and then says it doesn't meet the low-viscosity specifications of Matic-S. So, it's likely fine to use in a Nissan trans that asks for Matic-J, but I personally wouldn't use it in a Matic-S only transmission. Better off using a low viscosity ATF that meets Matic-S spec.
I know a lot of 370Z guys use Maxlife but I don't think it's the right choice for that application.
