When I sold ford's in 89 the 90 model year featured a protégé truck with the 4 cylinder cat motor which was suggested as the replacement for the the 7.3 when rumors of ford taking back the cummins from dodge. Then the 4 cylinder cat was around 1000 hp and had no comparable motor the running gears and frame were the challenge then and that it would destroy the competition which all three majors shared ownership
