You always produce secretions in your mouth. Some people produce more than others, probably based in part on genetics and environmental exposures (dusts, toxins, etc.)
Smoking is a major cause of excess secretions under anesthesia, like your see here.
This can be dangerous because it can trigger asthma attacks and laryngospasm under anesthesia - no joke!
