Yes, you have seen that guy before, as the band represented Finland two years ago. This song, In the Shadows, is from 2003 and was a huge hit in Europe. One of their best!

13:07 This song is a cover. The original song "Lähtisitkö" by Pave Maijanen was released in 1984. It was his biggest hit at the time and was one of my favourite songs as a teenager. Pave represented Finland in Eurovision in 1992 with a song "Yamma, yamma". The great artist died in 2021 on the 16th of January which is my birthday.

Käärijä often raps about ordinary relatable stuff. Like in that song there are lines about spending time at his grandma's place in his childhood and handing out with his friends. There's a documentary about the Finnish rock history rerunning on the Finnish TV right now. In that documentary one Finnish rockabilly musician, Tokela, from a band called Melrose, said that-even though writing and performing music in English himself-he has always found it funny when some Finnish bands sing in their own material about some places in the US where they haven't been to and don't even know where those places are. So Käärijä doesn't do that. He doesn't pretend to be straight from LA or something. He's a kid from Finland who reminisces how he loved to eat cinnamon buns at his grandma's place in his childhood. Not that songs have to be about person's own life, but still. Another artist, J. Karjalainen, who had written songs based on the Americana, said that his whole conception of America changed when he traveled there for the first time. The Americana he had grown up with hadn't portrayed entirely accurate picture of the US. Here are songs from both of them, if you are interested hearing their music: "Melrose - Rock 'N' Roll Cliché" and "J. Karjalainen - Mennyt Mies". One side note is when bands outside the US learn the Americana so well that they achieve cult status in the US. Like E.g. Laika and The Cosmonauts did. The guitarist and the drummer on that J. Karjalainen video were in that band: "Laika and the Cosmonauts - "Fadeaway"". The Finnish immigrants are a small part of the Americana themselves. Some of the first Finnish recordings where recorded in the US and some Finnish immigrants' descendants become fairly popular there. Here's J. Karjalainen's side project, Lännen-Jukka (Western-Jukka), as he performs Finnish-American folk songs. This song is called 'Moonshine Boy'. The police chief ain't getting a drop of it: "Lännen-Jukka - Pontikkapoika". Viola Turpeinen was one of those popular artists. As you wanted something to dance to: "ELLIN POLKKA (Evan polkka), Viola Turpeinen harmonikkasoolo v.1953". A relating documentary: "Yooper Creoles: Finnish Music in Michigan’s Copper Country | Documentary | Full Movie".

Yeah, you have seen Rasmus before and it was Jezebel in Eurovision. However, pretty strange you haven't seen them anywhere else, since they are internationally extremely famous band that has been around since the mid 90s
I personally don't know this song from Cheek (I kinda missed his era since he came after my time and I was living in Japan during his golden years), but since it is his song, it was most likely a massive hit. He had a very specific audience, but he was an absolute megastar for those people and filled stadiums. I kinda like this song, even though I usually am not a big fan of his music and singing style in particular
And as others already stated, that villeGalle's song is a cover, and not a great one. I think his part and the original would have worked better as separate songs, since the rap part isn't that bad by itself. Additionally, that insane auto-tune in the chorus is quite disturbing.
Imho the original song is much better with the original artist, and it was also a massive hit back in the day
Thanks for these reactions, it is quite fun that I am also learning new music from my own country from watching your reactions :D

If you want to hear a really random playlist of Finnish music, check out my *"Finnish music - unpredictable mix"* playlist (a couple of songs there aren't really performed by Finns, but there's something about the video etc that definitely makes them catch the Finnish mentality - most of it Finnish music though I promise 🙏) 😁

If you want to hear real Finnish music and not shit like this you should react to Nightwish - The Greatest Show on Earth (live at Tampere).

What a narrow look on Finnish music... Nightwish is absolutely good, but it is also not even close to the best that Finland has to offer.
