Brian Velez I agree with pui, you really need to listen these bands. Especially Nightwish, apocalyptica, HIM, Hanoi Rocks and the 69 eyes (+ santa cruz, kotiteollisuus, bomfunk’MC freestyler.) Some of these bands are known in America too.

Despite Darude - Sandstrom, here are some more or less internationally known Finnish artists and songs: Nightwish - Sleeping Sun/Nemo/I Wish I Had an Angel, Sonata Arctica - Tallulah (most sang karaoke song of all time), Redrama - Clouds, HIM - Right Here in My Arms, Bomfunk MC's - Freestyler, Apocalyptica - I don't Care, Poets of the Fall - Carnival of Rust, Hanoi Rocks - Tragedy, ALMA - Karma, Loituma - Ievan Polkka (propably the only worldwide known song sang entirely Finnish), K-System - Guardian Angel/ Sound of Arena
That was a fun watch, thanks!Sometimes I’m amazed how isolated the US is from popular music in Europe (sometimes also in Latin America). I mean, both Lordi, The Rasmus are quite known over here, and The Rasmus apparently has quite a few followers in Mexico. Lordi even won the Eurovision Song Contest with that song. How about checking out some other artists that have made their mark in Europe. Go see “Freestyler” by The Bomfunk MC’s, “Fairytale Gone Bad” by Sunrise Avenue, “Nemo” by Nightwish, “Chasing Highs” by ALMA and “Join Me” by HIM. Maybe you’ll find more new favourites.
Hard Rock Hallelujah is amazing. And Lordi are still touring, I actually saw them live in Poland two weeks ago and they're fantastic live, wearing full costume and make-up in the middle of summer.
Finnish and Estonian share common roots, most of the vocabulary is the same - but! They have grown apart a few thousand years, so the words have changed meanings on both sides, so there happens funny and embarrassing coincidents when both speak their mother tongue. I'm a Finn, and I understand more than half from the written Estonian, but spoken very little, except TV news broadcast nearly half. Estonian has also dropped a lot of the final vowels of the words, and affects right away in the rhythm and melody of a language. The biggest difference is in the melody - Estonian sounds more German (there was long a German upper class), and Finnish more like old Swedish, the more west we go, the more it shows. Swedish in Lapland has somewhat similar melody with the Western Finnish, so the old Swedish. Well, the very northern Sweden was long Finnish and Sámi speaking, so their accent comes partly from Finnish. And in the Eastern border, Russia has affected Finnish some. In the Northern Finalnd Sámi languages affects Finnish. Those languages are very distantly raltedto Finnish, maybe separated 10 t yrs ago. So, maybe the German accent has affected Estonian more, so that Finnish and Latvian have kept the old accent much more, though Latvian and Lithuanian are Baltic not Finno-Ugric (FinU) languages, like Finnish and Estonian - that means thay are not even Indo-European (IE) languages, but the oldest language group in the North-Eastern Europe, and the very North-Western Siberia. But the Baltic language group was partly born in the contact of the FinU people with the IE:s. Their language is IE, but genetically tehy are related with the FinU: Lithunians have about 40 % FinU in them, Latvians 20-25, and Estonians around 33. Finns are about 70 %. Sámi nations gene beackground I don't know well: They were first more FinU than the Finns, who first mixed with the Scandinavians. Later it might be that at places some Sámi have more Scandinavian blood than Finns. Also, they have surprisingly much Central European, like German inheritance. And that's old also, not only fromWWII time, when there was a lot of Germans there. Russians came to the area later, they have mostly affected the Baltic countries in many cultural thigns, but not much in the melodies of the languages.
I don't think Finnish and Estonian have grown apart "a few thousand years." Their common parent language was spoken less than 2 thousand years ago AFAIK. I've seen a hypothetical reconstruction of what the language spoken in Estonia was like 700-800 years ago, and it resembled Finnish more than the modern-day Estonian does.
Izzard Clips Yes, It's not as straight forward as I put it. I also studied Finnic languages and Finnish, it was my major in the university. This was just a simple summary. Languags don't divide over night, it takes centuries or millennia. Except if there comes a strong linguistic (pronounce: politic) oppression, then couple of generations can do a lot. So there was still a lot in common in those times 700-800 years ago. But the process of growing apart started thousands of years ago, when the Baltic Finns divided into 3 branches. Of course they had contacts between themselves, but the sea was still the dividing element - the contacts were not daily. Those were Southern (Estonian, Livian, Vatyan etc.), Eastern (mainly Karelian, but now it's difficult to say how close were the more eastern Finnic languages to Karelian - now disappeared), and the Northern branch, which is closest to Western Finnish. Eastern Finnish dialects are the transition dialects from the (former) Northern Baltic Finnic dialects, and the Eastern ones. The border between Sweden and Russia finally decided what was to become Finnish, and what was to develope to Eastern Karelian (though that's not very homogenous).
TheSuomi True, Estonian and Sámi were never totally separated from Finnish. But my comment was a summary, so it has to be simple, to not make it an article. I focused on how they grew to become separate languages. Sámi departed first, mainly because of the difference in acquiring food. The Sámi were long mainly nomadic reindeer herders, though there were so called forest Sámi people closer to Finns. But they have slowly assimilated to Finns, are withdrown to live with their fellow Sámi in the north, were there aren't much forest or not at all. The nomads always look at the farmers to be somewhat funny dirt diggers, the Sámi still call the Finns 'Lantalaiset' = 'Landians, or Manurians', though most of them are not nomads anymore. In my comment that thousands of years meant the languages grew apart during those thousands of years, it didn't happen just one day. They had contacts, but mostly not daily. The Sámi moved sometimes far from the Finns, and different livelyhoods made them direct to different things in life. Estonians lived behind the sea, be it a narrowish bay, but 100 km of sea makes you think do you want to visit every week, in a small sail boat. So the languages drifted apart. And this started long ago for Sámi, because Finnish and Sámi are not as much mutually understandable as Estonian and Finnish, though the Sámi are neighbour to Finns, no sea between. But earlir there were vast wilderness between them, and first their was no horses to travel. And even that understanding between the Finns and Estonians is less than half for most people. Estonians sometimes understand more Finnish, because some of them have watched Finnish TV. Finns don't really follow the TV of the 'little sister'. Finns usually have heard some songs only.
Mate, Im Estonian and before I lived in Finland I understood nothing in Finnish. The languages are so far apart with an odd word or two being the same or similar. Finnish language is like a language of their own. They invent words that no other language uses. For example, sähkö, urheilu etc etc that are mostly the same in all other languages.

Dead Letters by The Rasmus is one of my favorite albums of all time. It's a masterpiece! This is amazing! I love all your videos! But when you react to Finnish things it makes me feel happy. Not many people even knows what is Finland or where is it
Haloo Helsinki! Shows the deeper natural Finnish voice. With our words you can sing about anything. In Finnish you can really tell how is your soul doing, or how do you really feel deep inside. It is language of the gods i think. When you sing you can really resonate souls.
Haha, thank you Merlin! There was several Estonian viewers requesting Finnish for some odd reason! Not to mention, they are the second country that is SOMEHOW watching a decent portion of my videos. :) I had to go ahead and give them credit!
Im finnish and have never learned any estonian. I can understand most of estonian, if it's in written form. When they speak it's very hard to understand much more than a word from here and there.
Another finnish legendary band is Nightwish. Sad that you didn't include them though. But you should check out their work with each of the different female vocalists. As a suggestion: "Over The Hills And Far Away" that was when Tarja Turunen was still their singer "Bye Bye Beautiful" that was when Anette Olson was their singer, plus vocals from their male lead and lastly "Elan" with their current singer Floor Janssen. This song is one of my all time favs :)
OOOH we got a new rasmus-fan, welcome on board! :D actually suprised you hadn't heard In the Shadows before, as it was EVEYWHERE in 2003 when it was released. But better late than never, i guess ;)
Thank you this was good video and i am finnish and I live in Finland and the city where I live is Oulu and thank you very much once more for this video Best regards. Finnish man from Oulu city in Finland 🤘🏻👍🏻👌🏻😊
The Rasmus! 🖤🖤🖤 Band formed in 1994 and are still going. In the shadows is their biggest hit from 2003. The song gave them fans from all over the world, including the US. I always say they're a rock-pop band because I think that fits them the best and that includes most of their albums.
Yeah man, there are other countries on the planet, though it might be amazing. :) And folks holding their guitars do exist in other parts of the world. But thanks for your appreciation and your sincere feelings for Music. American bands are so cool. Love Am's 70s, Creedence and stuff. Well, lots of things. Just that unlimited list. Then British, German, Scandinavian, like this Finnish stuff. We've got to admire anything beautiful that we might encounter, right?

Brian Velez, you are awesome and you're doing amazing stuff! :) This is the kind of stuff the world needs just now - you're bringing people together from all over the world. Keep up the good work! Respect & Love!
Sometimes I look at finnish words like: "I think I understand that" but then I google it and just-
I was wrong
You must make finnish music part 2 and 3 and 4 and 5.. :D you can start heavy metal bands first!!!! Finnish people do best heavy metal! :) we live 9 month in 1 year in darknes.. :D
Good choice of band&songs, because even I(Who don't listen Finnish music lot) like those songs
Hahahaha I'm glad I was able to make the right selection :)
How no HIM? In next episode react to HIM Join Me
Haha :) I will definitely keep that in mind!
Omg, hey, greetings from Finland 🇫🇮 bro! Awesome how you got caught in the Sandstorm, it still gives me the chills after all these years, and believe me, i've heard it a lot, like properly _many_many_times_! Was great to watch your reactions for all the other songs too! Major thumbs up here 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 -Tony-
Dead Letters by The Rasmus is one of my favorite albums of all time. It's a masterpiece!
Some other finish bands that are also pretty known in Europe are HIM, Sunrise Avenue, Apocalyptica and Nightwish. You should really check out Apocalyptica and Nightwish. Also the band Beast in Black. Their greek singer has an incredible voice.
AWESOME! I am Estonian, but I listen Finnish, Latvian, Lithuanian and Polish music a lot :D
I suggest you to fade out songs audio, not just cutting it off, because it will sound better like that.
Thank you for the awesome advice! I constructive criticism. I'm also proud of you for having such an open mind to different music specially of different languages!
AT Gaming Could you suggest some Estonian bands? Metsatöll is the only familiar to me.
XtreeM FaiL Do you have a discord? You can find my server from my video descriptions, then join and we can talk in pm, I can tell you a lot about Estonia :)
As metal goes, try HIM, Nightwish, Children of Bodom, Diablo, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Amorphis, Apocalyptica, Wintersun, Norther and Ensiferum:P
The Rasmus is one the best band in the world imo. Actually all the songs of this group are masterpieces! I recommend to you listen the bands HIM and Apocalyptica.First of them is rock band with a very forceful singer and other band make the rock music with classical instruments.
Oh man! Is HIM from Finland??? I know who they are! The Rasmus has me absolutely mind blown. My jaw nearly dropped when I heard their perfection!
There are more really good bands from Finland:Nightwish and Sunrise Avenue for example, check it out!
Brian Velez HIM's Ville Valo, Rasmus's Lauri Ylönen have done a collaboration piece with Apocalyptica called Bittersweet, highly recommended! ruclips.net/video/H8Gzybrrbtw/видео.html
Even the first rap song?
Kati Pertel specially bittersweet 😉
I love your positive energy 😊 I am sure to watch more of your videos! ❤️👍
This is amazing! I love all your videos! But when you react to Finnish things it makes me feel happy. Not many people even knows what is Finland or where is it
When the screen went dark in the last video the lyrics said 'when the light goes out'
Ohshit, I´m exactly like You - didn´t know Darude is from Finland - Weird :D :D Awesome. Love Lordis song! And The Rasmus - OMG the best!
DUDE, I'M MIND BLOWN! I couldn't believe my ears, and ever since this video I now keep listening to The Rasmus
xD
Cool! Can´t wait 14th September - They will release new song "Holy Grail". They will be in Estonia 21.9.2018 but still like 150km away from me. :D
웃Airika Finland*
Sorry, i know it, Don´t even know why I wrote it with 2 "n" :P
@@BrianVelez this is soooo cool that you are actually listening to them, makes my lil Finnish heart really happy 😂❤
Like if you live in Finland 🇫🇮
Its ok
Thanks for doing Finnish music. Really interesting stuff, thanks. Greetings from Finland!
Btw....The Rasmus singer is my teacher’s cousin.......😂
He's my classmates godfather
👀
Really!?
I think its a joke.
lol ok?
You're teacher suddenly became cool 😆
Like 80% here is from finland, encluding me.
Hy! Can you make a part two? This was really entertaining to watch
The Rasmus and Lauri 😍😍😍
Thanks for the heart, unless I dont even know u,but I randomly found you 😁
It was so awesome to watch your reaction about our music, especially LORD reaction. Thanks 👍
Haloo Helsinki! Shows the deeper natural Finnish voice. With our words you can sing about anything. In Finnish you can really tell how is your soul doing, or how do you really feel deep inside. It is language of the gods i think. When you sing you can really resonate souls.
Theres nothing like home 🇫🇮💙
Brian, you ever wonder why in the internet age majority of this cool music do not end up in US Radios :) Latvia, Finnish, Estonian music.. :)
HECK YEAH! We keep repeating the same 20 songs for like 3 months at a time instead of giving these artist opportunities!
Actually is finnish really similar to estonian, I have learned finnish a bit but I understand almost everything. Btw well done 👍👍👍😁
Bixoryte oh hyvä!
What ive come to learn is that estonians understand finnish much better than finns understand estonian
@@Dookie9669 that's true!
Fun fact: They've made 3 different music videos for "In the shadows". 1. With a bank robbery theme, 2. this one and 3. the US version
Another finnish legendary band is Nightwish. Sad that you didn't include them though. But you should check out their work with each of the different female vocalists. As a suggestion:
"Over The Hills And Far Away" that was when Tarja Turunen was still their singer
"Bye Bye Beautiful" that was when Anette Olson was their singer, plus vocals from their male lead
and lastly "Elan" with their current singer Floor Janssen. This song is one of my all time favs :)
Also new Sleeping Sun is also great.
Your face when Sandstorm began!!!😂
Please make part 2!!
Oh my! Who should I react too!
@@BrianVelez please react to Sanni, Apulanta, Alma and Cheek!
Dont forget him and nightwish (when tarja turunen sang)
@@BrianVelez And Dingo And Apulanta and Eppu Normaali
I went and saw The Rasmus live.
Omg.
Speechless
That sounds like a blessing 😍
I Remember when they entedr the stage at Eurovision Song contest back in 2006, It was so powerful and they deserved the win.
OOOH we got a new rasmus-fan, welcome on board! :D actually suprised you hadn't heard In the Shadows before, as it was EVEYWHERE in 2003 when it was released. But better late than never, i guess ;)
I love this video ❤️🙏🏻
Thank you! I appreciate all your support and contribution 😂❤️🤟🏼
dude cmn you definetly know band called HIM wings of the butterfly , Join Me In Death ect ect
Jos oot suomalainen tykkää tästä kommentista! You pronounce them so funny 😂!!!

Thank you this was good video and i am finnish and I live in Finland and the city where I live is Oulu and thank you very much once more for this video
Best regards.
I absolutely have fall head over heels for them ever since finding them in this video. I now jam out to them nearly on a daily base!
@@BrianVelez Aw I love to hear that. 😊 Also curious to know if you have a fav song or album. In the shadows don't count.
Finnland is best metalcountry next to sweden and germany :D
Fader Berg you will love this little place called Norway!! 🤘🤘
Finland has more metal bands per capital than any other country in the world - FAR surpassing Sweden or Germany
@@donprovolone1425 naaah, sweden is better ;)
@@rudewalrus5636 well, the amount of band has nothing to do with my message?
And I said i like Finnish metal?!
But it's not always the best.
The Rassssssmus!!
Finnish is almost almost exactly the same as estonian when spoken but the music is very different.
I see that! But they are both good in their own way!
I’m from Finland and I love that you liked the Finnish songs!💙
PART 2!
Listen to Hanoi Rocks next time!
Totally! Cheyenne or Million Miles Away would be awesome!
Gypsy boots by Hanoi Rocks
ooh yes my personal fav 'Dont you ever leave me' would be great
Or...Until I get you by Hanoi Rocks!
+Brian Velez The band(Lordi) that were singing the "Halleluja song" won the Eurovision song-contest 2006 with it!
This gives me new perspektive to our music, I mean positively! Thank you :')
