Solo Camping in a TORRENTIAL RAIN Storm! - (my Wildest camp so far)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 28 сен 2024
- This was the ultimate camping in the rain experience, heavy rain with lovely rain sounds on the tent and tarp. It absolutely poured down. Not the easiest or most comfortable walk in or set up but so so worth it for the cosy camp I ended up with. I had a delicious dinner and plenty of warming hot drinks to see me through. I was lucky enough to wake up to the sound of heavy rain on the tent and the sight of the rain hitting the mountain tarn alongside my camp.
I was sorry not to have Indi on this trip, as it was a National Park, but she will be back in the next one.
I hope you will all enjoy it.

Brown Tarp: DD Hammock Superlight Tarp
Ultralight Camping Chair: Helinox Chair Zero ultralight hiking chair
Hiking Mat: Exped Synlite camping mat
Enjoyed the excitement with the storm and how you handled it. The scenery was magnificent.
Thanks 👍
You are so brave camping alone. ❤ i wanna start hiking for nature walks 😊 but noone else around me does, so i just watch and learn at the moment.
It makes a big difference if you can find likeminded people who also want to get out and enjoy walks. Some of my most meaningful social times have been chatting around campfires, facing challenges together, or sharing the beauty of something like a waterfall with friends or family. Keep trying!!
Looking forward to the next one!
Glad to hear it.
G'day, Merry Xmas & Happy New Year to you & yours. You have earned every Like you get this trip with that set up.
And G’day to you 😎. Thanks, it was a bit of effort 🥵
Great camping show. Any kind of adverse weather conditions is always fun to Camp Inn, and watch great job you do in New Zealand is such a beautiful place.
Thank you
There is just something about being tucked in, listening to the weather, and nature all around…
Absolutely agree!
It’s so beautiful
Thank you. It really was lovely
Great respect for you and your commitment to film in such weather conditions……and without tent pegs….lol. As always, great adventure…
Thank you very much!!
You never have to apologize for not bringing Indie with you. We all love seeing her but your videos are extremely enjoyable whether Indie can join with you or not. Your video content and amazing personality is what makes this channel stand out. Just please keep doing what you are doing and everything will be absolutely awesome. I hope that you and your family will enjoy your adventures in the new part of your country that you are planning to visit for awhile. Enjoy the outdoors and stay safe out there (and don't forget to bring the tent pegs LOL.) See you on the next one Cathy.
Thank you so much! I will remember that. cheers 😊
The rain camping Queen does it again, nice content.
Ha ha, thanks 👸 🌧️
Excellent video!...love it😍
Thank you! 😃
Güzel video doğa harika yağmur kampını her zaman sevmişimdir harikasınız👏👏👏
Thank you. I totally agree, nature IS wonderful! 🙂
We just got a DD tarp ourselves to replace a well and truly worn blue builders tarp. Looks like we might have the exact same one (and poles) so the fact that you've shown it dries out super fast is fantastic. Looking forward to trying ours in a couple of weeks.
I hope you have some great adventures with it 😁
NZ is like UK/Ireland with extra toppings 😂 Hopefully I'll visit and get a camp in someday. Thanks for sharing! 🌲
😆 yip I’ve heard that from others. Don’t be fooled by my videos though, it’s not always raining, I’m just crazy and seek it out 😁
Happy New Year Cathy to you and your family ...Nice to see your keeping your spirit high in such bad conditions. Looking forward to your next adventures in 2024. (ps.dont forget your pegs.)
Ha ha, thank you, as they say you only make a mistake once (hopefully, lol).
Looks beautiful there and i really like the camp set up on this trip 👍
Thank you so much.
I would have packed up my dollies and gone home! So happy you didn't! Your a wonder, woman!
😁💪 thanks
Thank you for mentioning that, watching the ads does help, I try to watch them all, unless they are long ones. And I love it when your videos are longer, the longer the better.❤🎉 happy new year from East Tennessee, USA
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching a couple of adds, really appreciate that. I’m playing with the length of videos to see what people like. Good to know you are keen on longer ones 👍
Yeah... Nice one mate..
Thanks Jim
Cathy, another great video. Just curious, is your rain suit 100% waterproof or is it water resistant? I found out the hard way what the difference is. A Gor-Tex rain suit is best because it’s 100% water proof & it breaths. Happy New Year to you!
Hi John, Happy New Year to you too. Thank you!
These items are 100% waterproof. I am exceptionally happy with the pants. The jacket is great except that it does not have double cuffs so if you raise your hands up anywhere beyond elbow height rain tracks down my wrists and wets the sleeve of garments underneath. That is a really peeve of mine grrrr.
I do love watching your videos. Nice style camp, everything quiet. You look like a very kind person.
Thank you very much.
I enjoyed you put your tent up. And then you put your trap up witchh most on here couldn't do it are know how . I live in USAand ii am 66 and I camped a lot and l9ved watching you on your trips.
Thank you I’m really glad you enjoy the camps 🙂
My girl, this is my first time catching your camping videos. You say your feeling vulnerable. You are a tiger, my hats off to you. Love the video. Gold Bless. Peace and Blessings from the USA, state of Connecticut ❤❤❤
It is all so very beautiful and relaxing. Thank you ❤
Awhhh, thanks so much ☺️
I’ve just found your channel and I love it you have another subscriber
Thanks, welcome.
Happy solo camping....wish you success and good health as well...
Thank you so much 😊
Thanks! Lol "every time I go camping there's always a fail." You are so funny and resourceful and loved the back story.
Sorry I did not complete my thought. I think you are great and definitely wish you the best!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for the gift. 👍😁🙏🏻
I expected to see Gandalf walk out of the woods. Tough conditions; well done. Thank you for sharing.
Haha, you never know 😆
Thanks
Oh my gosh Vally. This is going to be such a huge help. Thank you so very much!
Love your work and how you turn mishaps into success. You find beauty wherever you go. Thank you for sharing your passions with us. Happy New Year. Ellen in Oregon , USA
Happy New Year to you too. Thanks
I think you are doing very well under such circumstances
Thank you.
Another great video. I feel your pain too. Here in the woods of UK 🇬🇧 it’s wet windy and muddy when I set up camp and the same when I break down camp. But you just deal with it. Thank you for sharing your beautiful country and adventures with us. Much appreciated. You put in a lot of hard work to filming and making content for all us guys. Happy new year to you 🎉 and best wishes for 2024. Stay safe and take care. Your awesome 👍😉🏕🍺
Oh boy it sounds like you too would have wet dirty gear strung over your clothes line or around your garage airing and drying after a trip. I think the UK and NZ both seem to share in those conditions. Thanks for the encouragement. Happy New Year.
Oh yeah definitely all the time. But it will never stop me/us from going out all year round and enjoy nature. Feeling free away from stress and people. It’s my happy place. I love it. Look forward to seeing more of your future trips in your beautiful country. God bless you and your family. All the best Dan. Keep on keeping on camping. 👍🏕🔥
Go kiwi, thanks for taking me back home for some therapeutic camping weather.
😆 sure thing! Glad you enjoyed it.
Happy new year. Thakjs for another good video
Same to you! Thanks so much.
Happy New Year, i hope to see you a lot in 2024😂 Thank you for all the hard work ❤ NZ is so beautifull ,big kiss for Indi😘
Thanks so much
Best rain gear vid I've seen. Looks like leather. That's some weather. Great vid. That's the kind like,
You are right I thought the same thing when watching it back, it goes super shiny. Extremely waterproof thankfully 🌧️
Thanks for sharing again. Have a wonderful 2024, all the best to you and your family.
Thanks Mark. Same to you.
Thanks, as always, Cathy! Has the NZ summer been unusually wet like it has been here in Australia?
Thank you so much for the gift 😊 our summer has been patchy, there were sone big dumps of rain and it was very wet but it’s been pretty dry the last few weeks. I make it look like it’s always wet as that’s (almost) the only time I go out, but really it’s not that wet 😆
i really love camping maam..i always dreaming that someday i can do camping like you..
I hope you get to achieve your dream of going camping
Hi thanks for replying, I just checked on Amazon regarding the picnic blanket. If you search using the words small or pocket picnic blankets it’s brings up a bunch of inexpensive items. Which would be suitable for back packing etc. there are larger ones too which would be better for car camping. Just wanted to pass it on.
Great, thanks for that 👍🙂
Thanks!
Thank you so much Louise.
Kiitos!
You are very welcome. Thank you for your support.
Thank you for you!
No music, not too much talking, full of life..
Perfect for me.
I love love watching your videos. It was tough but you managed. Watching from Africa Kenya Nairobi city.
Thank you so much.
You are one brave lady happy new year to you love watching your videos could watch them all day 😊
Happy new year to you too Lorraine. Thanks for the encouragement.
Thanks!
You are welcome. And thank you!!
Are you on the same island as Tony from AB Camping & Victoria & Abel? Your locations are absolutely stunning. I so appreciate all you do and willing to show the ups and downs of camping. I sure have experienced those as well.
Hi from the East Coast of the US btw.
Yea, same island, approx half a day’s drive between most of my spots and theirs 😁
"'looks like we gonna need a bigger umbrella ". Challenge well met, C.
Oh yes! Thanks Jean-Pierre
Happy New Year to you and your family
Same to you 😊
Maybe you can try to put up the tarp first. Under it you can put up the tent, more or less dry. You can always replace the tarp later.
Yes good idea. On this particular camp it felt too windy when I arrived, hence why I opted to put the tent up first. Was worried my tarp might act like a sail.
Happy New Year Cathy thanks for sharing your adventures miss Indie though😊
Happy new year! Indi says thanks. She is the star of the next one that I’m editing now, so keep an eye out for it in a week or so 👍
Yaay!🎉😘
You so Amazing I love ur video from Indonesia .
I’m really glad you enjoy them
Crazy but lovely 😊
Yes, that was pretty much my experience too 😆
@@adventureot always great 😃
Seeing you fighting against rain, is reasons to Subscribe 😂.. Washington 🇺🇸 rain & Storms 9 months of the year
Yikes that’s a lot of grim weather 😦 I would love it 😉🤣
This reminds me of once when we were traveling through Canada. We had tent pegs but they were the small useless kind and the wind was so strong that it kept pulling them up. We ended up putting big rocks inside the tent in the corners and edges to hold it down.
Oh no, I know the type you mean, next to useless as they pull out so easily. Sounds like you made a plan.
@@adventureot Yep, almost like bent wires. The rocks worked great. We were making a military move and had four cats with us. They didn't seem to mind the wind. One night it was very cold and snowy and we stuffed them down into the sleeping bags with us. We had no other form of heat but they warmed us right up!
As a woman myself in her 60s, and new to camping, I applaud you for your solo camping. You give proof that we woman can do what seemed to be a male oriented activity. Well done and thank you. ❤
Thank you. That’s great that you are getting into camping. I hope you will enjoy yourself and have many adventures 🙂
Hi there.
Im in South New Brighton Christchurch. I must say im more in love with south island.
Is this area far from cbd?
I really wana go there.
Cheers
PS love your channel.
It would take you 90min to get to this area from where you are. Arthur's Pass National Park. I suggest you go into the Department of Conservation office there and enquire about short walks in the area. There are lots of options. Good luck.
I think storm chaser is your next career 😉
🤣
@@adventureot 😆
I'm in the U.S., and have been binge watching your channel since two days ago. I love it! But in this one, every time you said "pegs," I thought you were saying "pigs," and thought, Since when does she take pigs along?? 😂
😂 yes that is one of the unfortunate results of the New Zealand accent.
Oh and thank you so much for binge watching my vids 😁 that is so awesome!
Great vid - the places you camp mostly seem to be just off an established trail. Are these designated camping locations or can you camp fairly much anywhere on public land?
For the most part you can tent responsibly anywhere on public conservation land as long as it is not listed as a prohibited area. For example on our 10 'Great Walks' you have to be more than 500m off the track to camp (in other words you can't walk the track and camp for free, you have to book in to the huts or designated camping grounds). We also have strict 'Freedom Camping' rules for camping alongside your car. Pretty much if you are car camping it needs to be at a designated camping site, or you need to have a 4x4 vehicle and go off main roads and find an out of the way obscure spot (this is very hard as most land alongside roads is private farmland). In terms of backpacking and tenting, you can mostly just find yourself a little patch of dirt anywhere on conservation land.
@@adventureot Awesome feedback - just returned to NZ and looking to catch up on a decade away and do pretty much exactly what you’re doing. It’s one of the things that, in my mind, kept me going. :-)
Why is their no connected floor in tent. Things crawling in. And cold drafts
Hi Ayne. The Exped Venus is a two walled tent and has a full bathtub style floor so no drafts or creepy crawlies can get in. The bit that you are seeing might be the open vestibules at the front and back that I was cooking in. They are just the overhang from the rain fly.
Do you ever do any expeditions with your family, or are they not into your extreme love of camping in the rain!
Occasionally the family join me but I’m the only mad one who wants to camp in the rain.
You improvised well without your pegs.
Thanks
You forgot your stakes. It OK I did it toand it harder to set up you done veryngood
Thanks
you should check you have enought tent pegs befor you go camping you will frget to bring food next time
Yes I should 😏
I would have setup the rainfly first.
Usually the best option hey! I thought about it in this instance but winds were too high for the first hour or so. Great to have a tent with an attached fly for these occasions.
@@adventureot you have way more experience than me. Thanks for the reply 👍
Hi
hi
A good bush craft knife and make pegs out of sticks,,,!!!
Absolutely, and I have a great knife for that, but not this time, in torrential rain, driving them in to stony ground, nope. Easier to just tie off to trees.
It’s not hard to make temporary pegs from broken sticks
not hard at all
rope and rocks instead of pegs
Yes
對一個女人來說,妳的表現以經很了不起了,祝褔妳,
Thank you.
누나 예뻐요
Thank you, but more importantly I hope you enjoyed the scenery of the landscape, the rain, and the camping.
I hope you have waterproof socks.
😆 sadly no.
That doesn't look like fun , but ur acanper , best to u
🤣 so true, unless you love camping in the rain. This sort of thing would not look like much fun at all. The soothing sound of the rain and the satisfaction of setting up a warm dry camp is what I love about it.
i want to go with you maam..i love you...
Eeek, I definitely wouldn't go camping with a stranger who loved me. I hope you enjoyed watching the camping and weather though.
Make some pegs
Could have, but ruled it out. Not smart to stand around in wind and rain, handling a knife with cold slippery hands when the ground was too rocky for wooden pegs, and there were plenty of well positioned trees, shrubs and rocks to tie off to. Safety and practicality first.
@@adventureot bring a sharp axe with you next vlog. Would love to see you have a go.
Iam really enjoying your video
Thanks so much for saying so 😊
I must commend you on your commitment to filming in such conditions. Foul weather camping is hard enough but having to film all the craziness is downright heroic under such conditions. Bravo! Thank you for yet another great video. They scratch that itch to get back in the woods until the season changes in the northeast US.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you recognising the effort involved in this. It is so hard to capture great audio and video in these conditions on your own. I love a challenge though, lol.
I can’t get over the beauty of New Zealand. I had always wanted to visit, but too late. So, I can enjoy it through your trips. Thank you again.
I will happily take that as encouragement to get out to as many lovely places as I can and share them with you and others. Thanks for watching.
Don't be hard on yourself it's not a fail your amazing I love watching you. I too love the sound of the rain
Thank you. So true, not really a fail, just a challenge. Life would be boring without them hey!
I’m amazed at some of the conditions you camp in! That was some rain and wind! I want to wish you very Happy New Year!! I have so enjoyed your videos this past year and I am so looking forward to seeing where you take us this next year. Give Indi a hug for me!
Thanks so much for all the support and encouragement. The channel is nothing without the great people who watch 👍🙂
I am always impressed with people who dont let the elements stop their adventures. You are a warrior! Sincerely, your newest fan!😊
Thanks for that Chuck. Much appreciated.
I don’t know why you put so much effort into camping, but it is extremely therapeutic for people like me, battling life. Thank you, thank you so much!❤
Also, happy new year.
I think you just answered your question. That is absolutely why I put the effort in. I do it because it is therapeutic for me, I film and edit it for YT because it is therapeutic for you.
Thank you so much for the comment and the financial support. You are awesome.
Thank you for your efforts in filming your adventures and bringing us along. Such stunning beauty in NZ, rain, snow, or shine!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you.
you are amazing the way you fought the wind with that tent and did all that setting up in the rain. The way you did it with no tent pegs is amazing. I really love your attitude to life and hope your channel grows huge. You deserve success.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate that.
Chipper. Always Chipper.Admorable attitude in Atrocious downpour. You give me faith in positive thinking Atvb2u OT.Scott Somerset England
Thanks so much Scott!!
It's so nice to feel well enough to watch your video for a change. I've missed seeing you for quite a few weeks. What an exceptionally hard fall it has been health-wise. lol Always something to remind us of how good the good days really are.
I’m sorry to hear it’s been a rough time for you! Glad you have been able to enjoy the videos 😊 might be some to catch up on 👍
I’m at home in isolation fighting off a Covid relapse. Watching you setup camp in the horrible weather helps puts me in a different state of mind and helps me feel just slightly better.
I’m so pleased to know that. I hope you heal quickly.
Wow it’s beautiful there! The mat you put outside your tent, what is the name of it? Having trouble finding a matching item on the web.
oh yes, it was beautiful hey. I wish I knew more details about that mat but it was a business gift from a supplier so I don't know where it came from. It is just a waterproof backed picnic blanket, but I like it because it is light weight and not too big. A few people have asked about it so I might look in to what might be the same/similar and I can mention it in one of my videos.
I love the “fails” and realism. That’s how all my adventures happen in real life. Always forget something, knock something over, trip on something…
The best trips often happen out of those situations hey?! Builds self reliance and adaptability 🙂
Wow what a introduction wet wild and windy and No pegs 😳but you came you saw and conquered all ,well done 👏 🫡.Yes we love and miss Indy But your videos are always good👍 content with or without precious pup 🐶 😊 the walk to the river was just awesome breathtaking scenery and the weather so different from when you first got there anywho wishing you and your family (oh of course Indy ❤a Super prosperous New Year 2024 Many thanks for all your hard Efforts 🎉❤😊Love from Me V Australia
Thank you so much 😁
gorgeous spot, the rain ,the trees, the view-spectacular!
It really was. I had no idea what I would find there so I was so pleased to find this spot. The only bit of high ground, which you need there.
Hi OT just came across your video and wow a rough day for it. So where are you camping today what area. I am from marlborough but l live in aussie, gee it is truly a rugged day and I like your idea of a good camp - Wishing you all the luck, so dinner looks really nice and yes Christmas in NZ is in the summer - our winter is generally april through to September, good insight into these videos enjoyable videos with that sound of heavy rushing water around you. Cheers.
Hi. Yes it was a challenging day, but so worth it to relax after the set up was done. This spot is in the heart of the Arthur's Pass National Park. Glad you enjoyed it.
I was just telling a friend that spring is coming and it's getting close too camping time. His daughter just got him a 40 year old Toyota Camper, the Chinook style!!! So camping is coming???
Oh yeah, it sure is. I am sure he will enjoy some great adventure in that camper.
Massive respect for persevering and making the most of that, many would have bailed. I bloody enjoyed watching that, it's the first time I've seen you so I've subscribed 😊
Ha ha, thanks Paul. I appreciate that. I hope you enjoy the channel going forward.
Nice rain and Vibe
Thank you.
Happy New Year Cathy. Wishing you good health and many more safe and happy Adventures OT.
Thank you very much!
Wow the weather is crazy. Great watch. Somehow I love when nature is powerful like this.😊😊😊
I agree, I think that’s what I enjoy, the beauty and power of nature.
Thanks for sharing, great video and so nice it is NZ. You are great ❤

Ha ha, thanks Jamie. You know Kiwi's are battlers, and usually having fun with it. Definitely more to come. Thanks for the encouraging words and taking the time to comment. I appreciate it.
Amazing for your video of Solo Camping in a TORRENTIAL RAIN Storm! - (my Wildest camp so far). You are good with the camping preparation. I admire your hard work. I love your video, very nice and beautiful. Thanks for sharing.❤❤❤

Great suggestion. I’ll see what I can do with the settings to get captions for you.
Great video. The leftover food looked amazing. Here in the UK we call heated up roast dinner leftovers "bubble and squeak".😊
I’ve always thought of bubble and squeak as ham potato and cabbage fried up. So I guess that makes sense if it is Christmas left overs hey?! Yum.
@@adventureot Yes you are correct but in my youth it was any left overs and all kinds of meat .
