As far as I’m concerned, the Shimano Sedona is the best spinning reel for the money hands down! I just retired my 2500 after 20 years of fresh and saltwater use! I have a newer one hanging up in my man cave and am looking forward to another 20 years of fishing with it… if I live that long 🥴🎣

Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.

My first trout reel was a Shimano FG 1000 and it did well for a 20 dollar reel. I purchased a Nasci 1000 and loved it. Figured I try out the Sedona 1000 and got it at 49.00 bucks at Academy with a coupon. Can't wait to try it out. I do believe it will stun me with value as all my previous Shimanos have. Great review!

It’s a good buddy reel for that buddy that has a better grip on his beer than your $400 rod and reel set up. You all know who I’m talking about, too. He picks up your most expensive set up, holds the reel upside down, reels lure up tight into the tip top, reels the fish with a foot of the end of the rod, and is making artwork out of your outboard cowling, hitting it with the rod and lures every other cast.

The exact complaints you have with the sedona have been addressed and is the newer nasci. Sealed and screw in metal handle for $25-$30 more. Still, my two yrs old sedona gets used in the surf, mostly casting metal to Spanish etc and it's still solid. I keep it rinsed and put a little oil in each handle bearing a few times a year. Maintenance is key with the cheaper reels like this. Good video

The beauty of cheap reels is that you can just stack up on them and switch them out as they go (and often they last at least two seasons or more for me). I do have sealed reels, but I still in many cases prefer to use cheaper reels inshore. Bashing up a Stradic on the rocks would feel sad, a Sedona or a MaxPro on the other hand, not so much.

Just bought the 4000xg for 70$ canadian. I love it. Its kinda light , precise and smooooth as can be. It as 24lbs of drag witch i dont even need but its nice to know i could eventually get a bigger rod to handle it.
My father still has his shimano reels from japan of his teenage years ( 2 that i was using recently but the weight made me want to try newer / lighter ). I can'twait to see if it'll be the case with this one for me.

I bought a daiwa revros and daiwa legalis. Unbelievably smooth. Daiwa reels have the perfect balance between smooth and tough. And Shimano uses thin bail wires. A $20 Daiwa sweepfire has a thicker bail than a $70 Sedona.
