- Customer had to add multiple gallons of coolant within the last 200-300 miles. No External leaks found, Ive seen this so many times where the egr cooler ruptures and causes a coolant loss.
Having same issue. Excellent advice on the failure succession and other items. Now need to pressure test egr.
Fantastic video. Good to know the procedure. I have a 2008 Ram 4500 with a 6 speed manual and my truck does not have that EGR Cooler valve assembly you were fighting as well as the Trans dip stick. Knock on wood, my coolant levels have been fine for the past 15 years.
I believe this is for 2011 and up I think 2018.
Hey Brother they actually made a tool to pressure test the cooler with out having to remove the cooler it saves a ton of time and the price won't brake the bank.
It’s also recommended to clean/flush your Egr cooler.👍💯
I’m probably going to be doing a friends 2014 Dodge 6.7. It’s using a lot of coolant and no leaks. The newer models with all this emission garbage is why I hold on to my 2000 Dodge with the 5.9 Cummings.

Yep, I installed a new EGR cooler and it took care of his coolant loss and cooling issues.

Just gonna pull the EGR cooler? Lol. That takes a little more than a minute. Nice job getting the cooler out. Most guys pull the bypass valve out first but it’s not always a time saver.
Its not as easy as I make it sound but its the most accurate way to make sure thats the leak. I try to be extremely certain that its an issue before removal To not waste time and money. Ive pulled the egr pipes and valves before and find nothing , remove the cooler and its obvious.
If you can afford a banks idash super gauge get one asap. Black Friday sale . The one thing that does suck is there isn’t a transmission fluid temp on it. So I monitor the coolant temperature. I have the 68 rfe transmission yeah for me.
Banks I dash is really nice and full of features , its always a great idea to monitor temperatures on these diesels.
I’m having a similar issue on my 15. It leaks a little bit but I don’t see it. The tank will drain down to about half full but when I take the cap off it all flows back in except for the little bit that went somewhere

I’ve heard of that happening, sucks but makes it more reliable.
So just got a call from the dealer and they can’t find out why I am losing 2 to 3 gallons of fluid out of the reservoir bottle they are stumped everything was perfect they said when they pressure tested everything so it totally sucks I got 600 miles to drive home so bumbed out
QUESTION: Anybody know how to bleed air off the coolant system when refilling the coolant after changing it on a 6.7? Thanks.
The easiest way is to vacuum fill the cooling system. The later 6.7 like this one doesn’t have the coolant bleeder screw, if it did it’s best to bleed it there. In the case of this truck I would just fill the coolant bottle over the course of like an hour to let it settle. Then start it up with the cap off and let it run for like 10 minutes, then reinstall the cap. Sometimes they can be difficult so before driving I will hold the rpm’s at 2000 with the cap on and watch the coolant temperature till the thermostat opens (drop in coolant temperature). Then shut it off and let it sit a couple hours and check the level.

@@charlottenee8018 I think the first years of the 6.7 had them. It was on the top of the pipe that attaches to the cooler on the passenger side. It’s an Allen key bolt if I remember correctly.

Did you push that connector in or out?The one with your little red screw driver
On the brown connector the lock has to be slid to the side. The black connector has to have the red lock pushed back away from the connector.
What if its pushing coolant out the resivoir overflow.

I’m having almost the same issue with my ram 2500 2019, I can definitely smell and see coolant dripping down the frame on the passenger side, but I don’t see enough water dripping, I have to add about 1.5 gallons after one hour of driving, do you have any ideas and what could be the issue?
Btw no water on the oil, and no white smoke coming out of the exhaust.
If your seeing coolant on the passenger frame rail it possibly could be a leaking heater core (there should be a black drain tube coming out the firewall , if coolant is leaking from that its likely the heater core is leaking). The other thing you could check is the coolant expansion tank for leaking. Easiest way to check would be to remove the passenger side fender liner to hopefully locate the leak.
@@drewsshoplife thank you so much! For sure I’ll take a look at that, also I noticed some green algae and rust around the actuator bracket, but for some reason I don’t think that could be the reason why I’m loosing that much water, do you have any advice on that?

I have the same problem but mine is just a lil different . I lose coolant after driving it for a while , but when I take the reservoir tap off the coolant comes back to the reservoir. Any ideal what it can be ? Please I need help
Do you have to add coolant at all? if not that can be normal. If you have to add coolant then you have a leak, your best bet is to pressurize the cooling system to find the leak, if no external leaks are found then its likely its the egr cooler.

Is it possible to overflow coolant from the tank when egr is bad ? I have the same truck it started to loose coolan couldn’t find from where this leak was coming, yesterday I was at home when the truck started regen and during this process it had an overflow from coolant tank is it possible to come everything from bad egr or it should be a head gasket?
Could be the egr cooler or the headgasket, I first remove the cooler and inspect/pressure test it.
