I really love Rainie's questions in this episode. She always has thoughtful questions, but her question about chronic pain and sex was on my mind and I'm glad she asked it.
I love how Kelsey clarified that orgasm isn’t necessary in order to enjoy sex. It’s not easy for everyone to achieve it and the societal pressure that is put around the “importance” of reaching an orgasm every time you have sex makes it even harder.
Kelsey has the type of sex positivity that we all need. Being so knowledgeable, enthusiastic but respecting boundaries about what others will talk about, and little mentions like respecting sexual "icks" when there's a good reason for them, or saying don't change anything if things are working for you. I have a whole new respect for this lady.
I love how accepting and uplifting Kelsey is. Like she supports you going out, exploring and enjoying yourself with multiple people or if your a demisexual that wants to stay monogamous. Like she truly is sex and relationship positive! ❤
Kelsey saying she knows within minutes of meeting people that she wants to sleep with someone was incredibly validating. From someone also raised in a religious environment where sex wasn't necessarily shamed, but definitely not talked about, and being queer is a sin. I've definitely come a long way in separating myself from that inherent shame, but hearing someone else experience that was so validating. ❤
literally paused the video and thought to myself ''i wish they'd mention aces too, like it's also okay if you're not interested in anyone'' then started it again and literally in that moment maggie said ''you don't have to be interested in anyone'' and just. I love you maggie
For some reason, I saw Maggie’s adorable dress, and I thought, “I wonder what Zach would look like wearing that..” since they sometimes share clothes 😂
Kelsey's point about talking about sex is so crucial. Making it so it's not something people find shameful opens so many doors, whether it be improving pleasure or reducing assault, abuse, or grooming. , admittedly, am a bit more comfortable talking about these topics than others, since I spent a while teach sex ed programs. However, I find that talking about sex, at least generally, has made me someone my friends are willing to turn to when they have issues (I do avoid talking about specifics of my sex life with friends, but, that's purely because I want to protect the privacy of my partners, and don't want to share details they aren't comfortable with others knowing without their permission).
omfg kelsey as a fellow bi woman i have never felt more seen!!! as someone who has never had sex with a woman and is married to a man, i was like “oh, me and my husband already do all this” and it’s opened my eyes to all of the more specific reasons why our sex life is so good! def made me feel affirmed in my queer identity ❤
Me too! She seemed chiller on this podcast somehow😂 I feel like she is so comfortable talking about that stuff and comfortable with these friends that she could just be herself and not overthink/perform
So yes, I too have a love/like (but..) relationship with Kelsey. She does come in very strong with her opinions, but she has her moments, like in this video.
It really changed my perspective when a professor told me people get hurt by what they thought sex meant, rather than the sex itself. If we see sex as a separate entity, it is easier to navigate in a productive way
A phrase I heard Trixie Mattel and Katya use (which I think applies to the Rainie debate on coming off bi) is, "you're not straight, you're just heterosexual." There's a difference between the two sometimes qhen it comes to how you act/present yourself. The quote is from the Unnnnhhh episode on Straight People BTW!
Hearing about Kelsey's experience and her advice is so affirming to me. Sometimes you don't know how important representation is until you see it and cry 😂🎉
This was so educational. Thanks for using this platform to create a healthy sex positive atmosphere. I feel like it is such a taboo to talk about this, and it is nice to hear about how much of a spectrum everything is.
Hello! Fellow bi person here! Def had those feelings when in a heterosexual relationship of not being legit, but time (and moving far away lol) helped me realize my true self :) lots of love to Kelsey and the rest of the pod ❤️
I've been in a hetero, monogamous relationship for 13 years, married 9, and we have a child. I have a hard time seeing myself with anyone else so I often wonder if how I identify my sexuality even matters. This conversation and your comment are both very validating 🩷
I have to say I’ve never felt so validated than by hearing how causally Maggie talked about being Demisexual. I always worry it’s going to keep me from having a happy healthy relationship and it means a lot for her to share considering how private she is
I love Kelsey so much, she makes me feel more normal with sexual stuff, it's slowly becoming less embarrassing to me even though I've been with the same guy for a LONG time, and now we make jokes that my vag is "slimer" and he(slimer) often has notes about sex we have, depending on position. But yeah thanks for making us girls feel normal Kelsey!
1) Kelsey calling Maggie "Moogie" was SO CUTE ;~; it warmed my lil hort 2) I really like Kelsey's explanation about "can I kiss you?" versus "should we kiss?" I've asked other women the first question before but I really like how there's a "we" in the second question because it allows us both/all people to be further involved in the choice. In the future I might ask "can we kiss?" instead of should, but idk, I'm open to trying out both variations :)
Listened to this already on apple podcasts but came to comment how much I enjoyed this ep and an advice question for Kelsey/fellow YCSWU listeners!! So, I am a bi women in a long term hetero relationship. I don’t bring up my sexuality unless asked or if it’s relevant to the conversation (this is what is most comfortable for me!). My problem: I’ve yet to tell my lesbian best friend of 6+ years. Back when I was even less comfortable being open about my sexuality, she really got into cracking jokes on our “straight”-lesbian friendship dynamic and I just sort of played along. It’s been so long now that I don’t know how to bring it up but I really want to be honest with her 😭 help???
I’m also a bi woman in a long term hetero relationship! I also don’t really bring up my sexuality unless the situation really calls for it. If I were in your position and wanted to tell a long time friend, I’d probably bring it up in a lighthearted moment and say something like “hey I know this may seem weird that I didn’t tell you a long time ago, but I’m actually bi and I’ve known I was for [x amount of time], I just don’t talk about it much. I hope you understand my reasoning for not saying something sooner and it doesn’t mean I didn’t feel like I could trust you, just that I didn’t know how to bring it up after all this time” and hopefully she’ll understand and maybe you guys can laugh about it! And if she reacts negatively, her feelings are not really your responsibility.
Really appreciate these comments. Can totally relate. ♥️ It's so hard to know if it's even "worth it" to come out because I've been in my monogamous hetero relationship for so long. So I often only mention it if it comes up, and I don't discuss it with family or unsafe people. Not ready for that yet.
@@livlivlivya thank you so much for some of this vocabulary!! Appreciate it a lot :) yeah, it’s definitely the worry of her feeling like I’ve being lying to her/haven’t trusted her with the info that’s been holding me back
@@TaylorBishop8890 thank you for the response, it’s comforting to know I’m not alone in these scenarios! I’m not out to family either, so I feel you there.
Maybe you can bring it up as a question. As if you didn't realize you hadn't mentioned it before. "Did you not know I was bi? I'm so sorry. I thought I told you by now, but it also doesn't come up a lot in conversation, so I must not have realized you didn't know." Something to that effect. Then it is more the fact that you have been friends for so long that you thought she knew. As a person in a hetero relationship, I tell people I am pansexual all the time. 1) I want people of all genders/sexual orientations who are my friends to know that while it may not be obvious that I am on the LGBT spectrum, I am not only an ally, I am also part of the overall group they identify with. Being in hetero relationships does give us a greater privilege than someone LGBT+ who cannot hide their identities, but that does not mean we need to keep our identities to ourselves. 2) It should not feel like something you should not bring up in conversation. If you are nervous to bring it up in conversation, maybe the person you are talking to isn't worth your time. 3) The more visibility of people from all walks of life on the LGBT+ spectrum the better. Be out. Be proud. Millions of people fought for our right to do so. Make people who don't want us to exist nervous because they learn there are even more of us than they realize. Even people in hetero relationships committed for decades are people they could be fighting to take away their right to love who they want. There is strength in numbers. Be that strength. 4) Now you get to discuss who you think is hot together. Maybe you already did, anyway, but if that's the case it should have been fairly obvious you do not gender discriminate based on who you are attracted to or might sleep with if you weren't in a committed relationship. That's just my 50 cents.
53:45 Kelsey is right that price really makes a difference when it comes to sex toys but Adam&Eve and LoveHoney both have some really good toys in a cheaper range, and LoveHoney often has lots of discounts (including a student discount!) so please do not feel like you can’t get a good toy under $100
8:12 I truly pride myself on being this person- flashbacks to when I was with my ex, on our way home from a date, and our friend called me freaking out because he had a toy get stuck during anal training 😭 since I was out with my ex I just had to explain to him in detail how to remove it over the phone. (Since he spent an hour attempting before he called and I'm sure someone else doesnt know, here's the instructions lol: you take a minute to relax because you're probably gorilla gripping it due to stress, lube your fingers up, work your fingers in alongside, and use them to cover whatever ridge or bump got stuck in order to pull it out! It may take time especially if you're not used to bigger sizes but your holes are extremely elastic, trust.) This is particularly funny because I need to work on asking for help myself so it only goes one way 😅 I gladly haven't had any genital situation I couldn't take care of myself.
This was a great episode but the question about sexual attraction I kind of was scratching my head going "I think you're describing arousal?" Sometimes I wished I had experimented more being bi, but I never had the courage to pursue women. At the same time I'm happy I found my person who just happens to be a straight guy 😅
I love Matt being basically the mediator between Kelsey's outgoingness and Maggie's reservedness.
I really love Rainie's questions in this episode. She always has thoughtful questions, but her question about chronic pain and sex was on my mind and I'm glad she asked it.
42:27 Maggie's "no" and Kelsey just being like "i forgot who i was talking to" made me laugh out loud
I love how Kelsey clarified that orgasm isn’t necessary in order to enjoy sex. It’s not easy for everyone to achieve it and the societal pressure that is put around the “importance” of reaching an orgasm every time you have sex makes it even harder.
"or you could just be straight and that's cool too! i hate that for you but..." LOL i love kelsey
33:59 “I feel like I’m an Escape Room. It’s like different things every day… beep boop boop - not this time!” I’ve never felt so seen!

it was so validating to hear them speak so kindly about demisexuality💜

This was a great episode but the question about sexual attraction I kind of was scratching my head going "I think you're describing arousal?" (especially at the beginning talking about the physical part). This thing that I think is confusing for some of us on the ace spectrum is like okay, but what is attraction *to a person* like?
