Pete Chvany, you're right that he's using loop pedals. At 2:16 you can see him begin to play the bass parts. The top two strings of the guitar can easily play a bass part, which is what he's clearly doing (also known as the 5th and 6th strings, as guitar strings are counted from the bottom up). Earlier you may notice that he often plays the first 4 strings - providing the higher guitar sounds. Absolutely magnificent guitar playing and drumming! P.S., not meaning to discount your post in any way; just agreeing with you and adding my own observations. :)
@kyle middleton having seen him a couple of times at small clubs, I'm fairly certain he's using a loop station of some kind. Live, one can see him lay down parts and then start looping over them, but he can also have pre-canned bass parts and such, and trigger them on the fly with one of the foot switches. Notice how the last few things he did on guitar continued when he switched to drums, good chance he did that loop live on the spot at the proper point. Andrew Bird and KT Tunstall are other pop acts who've used this kind of thing, to name a couple. I've also seen live cellists do simplified versions of string quartets by acting as two or three of the parts, looping over themselves. It's great stuff when you can see the musician putting it together right in front of you, even if some parts are clearly also pre-recorded. Hope that helps.
i rarely use the word Epic. . since it's overly used and often incorrectly inserted into everything these days. . BUT . . Liam Finn is An Epic Musician and I am proud to be a part of his generation!
WHOA! WHOA!@ WHOA-OO-OOAH! i see why he isnt famous. hes much too talented. beware mediocre. beware mediocre men and women. beware their love. for their love is mediocre. they cannot create art. and therefore will not understand art. again, WHOAH@!
The amazingly talented woman on the stage whom everybody forgot to mention is Eliza Jane Barnes
Son of Neil Finn and daughter of Jimmy Barnes, how could it be anything but awesome!!
One of the best albums I ever randomly picked up at a store knowing nothing about the artist.
Same here. Was docked in Tauranga, NZ in 2008 and happened across a music store and picked him up randomly.
yes, they definitely nailed it, fav song at the moment, wait i have to play it one more time..
Best version of this song live that I've seen. They nailed it!
Also worth checking out the version on Jools Holland. That is more to my liking, as it’s even more raw.
Man I'm awestruck! How can this have been around for three years without going viral? Just electrifying.
I love the use of the loop pedals to keep the guitar going and adding new layers. Awsome!
I was at the filming of this show and performance and have been a fan of Liam's ever since. April 2008 I believe
His dad is the best songwriter of all time
Saw him live tonight. The man's a manic genius

"He can FLY!" LMAO :D.
A combination of two of my favorite people/things-Liam and his music, and Craig and his show. Awesome
That was well worth the 5:00 minutes of my life. Great Performance !
woooooooooooow this is so bloody amazing

I think he's actually playing the bass part live through an octave pedal, then looping, rather than pre-recorded.
Wow this is fantastic
Masterpiece.
Golly I got goosebumps towards the end.
Awesome!!
Love this
I think I increased the views by 100 yesterday!! Great performance.

@Innersea I think her name is EJ Barnes, the daughter of Jimmy Barnes.
Always remember who you are
man he looks sooooo much like his dad.
If you see him live he probably shows you to your seat as well.
@get88 probably the sound board guy... but I did see in another one of his live performances he controlled the dl-4 while he was playing drums
I can't believe people are confused as to whether or not he's using loop pedals... it's blatantly obvious that he is! Anyway, brilliant song
Inga Pavlova.
OH !!! LIAM BRILLIANT. AND I DONT CARE HOW YOU MADE THIS MUSIC BUT ITS GREAT !!!
There is something wrong with the world. This video has 2,000 views and Lady Gage has millions. 8^(
Hectic! And great. :)
@000michaelb000 is just an octaver, probably a boss oc-2 or something like that, not weird at all.
trippy i thought exactly the same thing. im guessing its a pedal next to the kick drum huh?
At 4:24, he is faster than Bruce Lee - smashes the cymbal, then grabs hold of it with his hand almost instantly.
I gotta admit half way through I was like, this is boring as. By the end, I was like this is so fucking amazing! I gotta watch that again!
it's all about the bass.
@Innersea Cobie Smulders from How I Met Your Mother.
What bloody pedal is he using to make it sound like a bass????
@Innersea Liv Tyler?
whos the girl at the start?
Fuck yeh
lol
go wayne ronney
