If you loot the cave before picking up Hawkeye and then avoid fighting the orc, Hawkeye will join you to Rivendell. And there he will leave the fellowship because his wife is waiting for him. Nice to have a good fighter untill this ;-)
Though risky, it is also possible to fight the two Nazgul that attack in the cave. Using !Elbereth leaves only one for Hawkeye, Druin, and one of the Hobbits with a bow to fight. Granted a Nazgul can pretty much one shot any of the Hobbits, so avoiding the Orc fight is definitely the preferred option.
Cool - I have never tried this, but ich solfed to beat the Nazgul on the Brandywine bridge with Hawkeye, Druin and Athelwyn (casting winterchill). But the very best of this is, that they implemented a special scene for Hawkeye if taking him to Rivendell :-) Sorry for my bad English ^^
I agree, little moments like Hawkeye in Rivendell and being able to feed Rations to the Wolves made me happy. It was good to know that the creators cared enough to make alternate solutions to the riddles and dilemmas in the game. :)
Absolutely :-) It was also fun to beat the balrog and keeping Gandalf in the party ^^ Ok, I had to try it often and bevore the fight, I dismissed Pippin and recuit Kiri for some extra hitpoints - and of course he and Druin were killed in the battle, but hey - I still had Gandalf ^^
One video in and I don't recall Gildor at all. The stones were always a mystery. Weird to miss that. We did manage to figure out Hawkeye. This is so much better as the Floppy disk version would give you a chapter number and you'd have to look it up. I don't know how the original had it, but the interplay CD had it in a file. Kinda hard to read it while playing the game, and our parents didn't let us use the printer. We kinda learned he was trustworthy while pressing buttons.

So nice watching this LP. I played this as a kid as well and have fond memories of struggling through it (not the most intuitive game).

@@RavenLP- I remember that fight, Ironically it killed everyone but Gandalf.

I still think a 100% playthrpugh on this game wpuld be amazing (but almost impossible without some insider knowledge)
