Thanks for the updates! It’s always interesting to see how the orchids adapt, grow (or not 😢) and reward with beautiful blooms. And thank you for keeping it real with sharing the ones that didn’t thrive. It’s an encouraging reminder for me that despite our efforts to provide the best care, some orchids just may not have been healthy when we purchased them and losing orchids doesn’t mean we were bad plant parents. It’s frustrating when an orchid fails to thrive but I learn more when I think through the possible reasons why and that will help me be more successful the more I get into this hobby. 😊💜
Absolutely! I find that some orchids are just sick or vigorous, and if you start with bad root systems, indoor conditions are brutal for them! They decline very quickly. Appreciate you watching!

Thanks so much Rick! I appreciate your thoughtful comments. I'm really glad you enjoyed this one. Hope Haiku Dawn blooms this year. It's time. It needs a repot tho Lol!
I’m a fairly newly obsessed orchid parent & have been enjoying your videos. I recently purchased some seedling orchids so it’s good to see that they can grow and thrive. Thank you for your great videos. 🇨🇦
I remember very well when you went to the festival and how complimentary you were about Raphael, the owner of Planteo. The next time I went to his nursery, I told him about your comments on your video and he was very touched. Next time I am going, I will let him know about your success with the plants your purchased from him😍
@@bibicheknauf4163 I remember your comment! I was very happy with that LC Trick or Treat and Haiku Dawn. Sad about Bernie Blanck but that was my fault with the grow method. I will definitely purchase more from them :)
Hi Nicole. This was a very nice update. You grew your seedlings beautifully. It’s amazing to see how big they grew. Thanks for sharing your update. ❤️👏🤗
Great update, thanks. I love Plantio la orquidea also. I have to order online, and everything I have ever ordered has been very reasonably priced and has thrived. Thanks, Sherrii
Amazing growth on these throughout the years! And yeah it always happens that a few are bound to not make it but most of yours made it and that's amazing!
Your collection is impressive! I'm happy I found you since I live in the northeast as well and as a beginner I'm worried about my first winter as an orchid collector. Thank you for all the good information you share with us.
Glad you discovered plantio la orquideA! They are one of my absolute favorite vendors when it comes to brassavola and cattleya orchids They're crosses just look phenomenal and so far they've been really good about shipping quickly and I've received each plant in very healthy condition. I have 3 of their plants and I love their choices of unique crosses. Love the video! I really like seeing how orchids, especially the actual plant and foliage and how they change over time. Very helpful :) P.S. I think you should def put the encyclias into terra Cotta like you mentioned. Mine do very well like that and the one I have in plastic just doesn't seem to do as well. I find they like a quick wet dry cycle or at least mostly dry. But I will say be careful when repotting and time it just rightwithnew roots coming out of a new growth. I go back after repotting about a month after I repot, and will do a second repotting before the new roots get down into the media too much just because like cattleyas, its possible all of theold roots will die. MOG recommends the 2nd report for cattleyas and after trying that this year when I reported all of my orchids... Wow. Game changer and so right about it. I'm debating just getting rid of all of the roots except for the new ones on catts and cyclias. But that's so terrifying >_< not sure I can go against my instinct to do that Sorry for such a long comment. -L
Thank you for the tip on encyclias. I bought several clay pots last week and I'm going to move some of the species and such into them based on recommendations I've gotten. I understand the rationale behind a second repot.
I can’t believe how well your Phals are doing. Just gorgeous! I’m having such poor luck with summer bloomers, they all get stem rot and die after about 2 months. I know you keep your room warm but what humidity do you have? Do you use a humidifier? Thanks so much. 🩷
It is so interesting to see the update on your orchids and how they grow. I love novelty phals. Your phal amboinensis is beautiful. Unfortunately, the one that I have does not grow well for me. is cattleya aclandiae compact? I am thinking about getting one.
Aclandiae is compact but rambly. Check out the Aclandiae hybrid video I made a few months ago! Some additional recommendations there on hybrids crossed with it that you might be able to find more easily (and cheaper) as well :)
Nicole you say in one of your videos that you went to Brazil. How do you care for your plants while you are gone? I have to take care of my Mom for 3 weeks in October out of the country. I would love to read some of your suggestions. Remember I also live in the northeast. I appreciate you and your recommendations. Thank you!
How many plants do you have? I have a self watering system that I can use to take care of about 10 plants, I did a video of them in January. My mom helped me with a bigger part of the collection. I think cattleyas and Dendrobiums will usually be ok, but phals and any seedlings will suffer with that much time with no water. I would water heavily starting a week before you go and the day before you leave. I'm not sure what they are potted in, but if you can tuck some moss in the pots that will help too. Your mature orchids will be ok, I just worry for any small seedlings! I think they will do better than you think since it's cooling down at least :)
@@NicoleDeanna I have 23 orchids. Few phals, couple of Oncidiums and Dendrobiums, several cattleyas, one Vanda 😢 and a few minis. Most are in terracota pots. Not the Vanda. Thank you so much for replying 💚 I bought a hydration tray and I think your suggestion makes sense so I’ll do that as well. I’ll recruit my adult daughter as well 🪴. Take care and please keep up the good work. This really addicting but so enjoyable!
@@MariaAvila-Wallace I'm so happy you enjoy the content! Thanks so much again for the super thanks 🫶🥰❤️ Ok for the orchids in terra cotta it dries fast but its actually also wicks moisture in! For the oncidium and phals, you could leave them in a shallow tray of water. Many people will say not too and it'll waterlog the roots, but I think two inches in a reservoir followed by a big dry won't kill them and give you some leeway. The Dens and catts will be hardy and likely will be ok. With your daughter, if she can water once or twice in the midpoint all will be ok :) Don't stress, most of your collection will be ok and you'll see how drought tolerant they are ❤️
