@@mountainhomesteadfamily I like longer videos as well! I think there could possibly be a happy medium with a medium length video 🤍
As always, it’s totally up to you but I think it would appease both crowds! That.. or either a short one here and there and just medium/long ones.
Being a content creator, I know you have to please the majority but the majority may not be the OG’s or the ones that are always here watching 🤍

Don’t feel bad. You’re not complaining. You’re expressing disappointment which we all do when our seed sprouts die. Don’t be hard on yourself. You are human and life is not perfect and you’re not expected to be perfect either. I think sometimes YT expectations are unrealistic. Actually, you are showing what most of us really folks have to deal with. I know when my plants die I feel the same way you do. We put time and energy into it and it’s frustrating. Completely understandable. You are doing a FANTASTIC job! You handle everything like a pro. Being a wife, mom, homesteader, homeschooler and everything else you are is certainly not easy. Not everyone could handle all those things and you make it look so easy, which means you are a pro. Much blessings to you and your family.

One thing I am concerned of with the plastic containers of plants is that when heat (sunlight) goes against plastic, it puts microplastics into the soil and therefore into your food and into your body. it is toxic and really unsafe. Just be careful.

I love this short form video. As a busy mama to five, 10-15 minutes is my jam. Anything over 20 seems like a commitment and something I may not have time for.
Love it. Sorry about your tomatoes!

Homesteading is not easy! But, it is so worth it! I grow most of our plants by seed too. I lost a couple of my tomato plants and nearly all my pepper plants 😥. So I had to buy pepper plants at our neighboring city nursery. We switched to raised beds now so it'll be easier for me to bend down (lots of health issues I'm trying to overcome and my age also). We had a set of twin kids born this morning to one of our Dams. Both bucklings (we were praying for doelings, oh well), they're adorable. Hatching out our chicks this year has been stressful because the hatching ratio has gone down considerably. I researched and it could be our rooster is probably too old (we got him already as an adult and his last years sons, he keeps chasing after them instead of tending to the hens or letting his sons tend to the hens). Our hens are only 3 years old and then their girls are not even a year yet. 🤷‍♀️. But out of 25 eggs, we have 6 chicks, it's better than none.
Your kitchen looks lived in and cherished. Whenever I see a spotless kitchen, I wonder if any loving thought provoking tender meals go on in there.
Thanks for the tips. Keep them coming, (even though I'm old enough to be your Mom. We're never to old to learn from eachother).

I wish you weren't mad! Yes, you plan so many things, and things often go wrong. However, it is important to think that there will be something that will give you a larger harvest, and by selling it, you might be able to bring in the extra expense, which is now a loss. We're not doing much this year either. We already had three brooders, but two didn't hatch a single chick, so instead of 65 chicks, we have 4. Maybe try asking around with your neighbors to see if anyone has more and you can exchange them. Sorry if I posted a lot of stupid things, it's been working for us lately. I'm so sorry for your loss and I'm sorry I can't offer any words of encouragement. But, I carry you in my prayers! With love: Christa

I have never made the croutons in my cast iron, only in the oven. I'm definitely going to try it this way next time. I have some bread in my freezer right now that I have already planned to turn them into croutons.

I would cry too! I had a gardening sorrows like that last year. Many things struggled due to all the smoke NY state received coming down from the Canadian wildfires. I have saved heirloom tomato seeds for so many years that I can actually direct sow them & get mature tomatoes when I should. But last year, I made a few mistakes in my mulching & then all that smoke!!!! I only got enough ripe tomatoes to save the seeds. We had one year where every single one of our piglets died, due to an unscrupulous pig breeder who sold us (known) sick pigs. That was our whole year of pork, buried in the back yard. i cried. ALOT. I actually cradled dying piglets in my arms & cried & cried. Today one of my meat birds died & a few months ago my much awaited milk cow died after calving. We currently have a broken tractor, broken lawn mower, wheelbarrow with a flat tire & my in laws have TWO broken tractors. I have been at this lifestyle for 15+ years & still making mistakes/experiencing losses/struggles with equipment...It is what keeps you humble & keeps you learning! Just because you've been doing it a long time doesn't make the loss any less heartbreaking! I send my new neighbor crazy pictures of my kitchen, pantry, etc...to show her that I do NOT 'have it all together'. She'll send me funny pictures of the messes she has going on. We call ourselves de-fluencers🤣If anyone saw those pictures they would wonder what we do all day long & they would not want our life LOL.

Oh Shayla! I feel so bad for you about the plant starts! That sounds like a calamity that would happen to me too! Thank you for all the tips and ideas in this video as well; I got some good ideas. Oh, and on the haircut front: we recently were in the middle of a move and I couldn’t find the clippers, so my husband took our son to the barber for a cut. A kids cut (with tip) was $24! Yikes! We’re back to doing home cuts-especially during the summertime when he likes it clipped really close.

We had a stove that looked a lot like yours (made by Kucht). We also use propane and had so many problems with it. After 5 years, and being without an oven for 6+ months, we decided to invest in a Viking range. I really love it. I’m hoping it lasts without issue. My time without an oven was difficult. I did learn to use my BBQ grill for baking 😂

I make our pizza on a BBQ grill! I have baked a pie in a contraption that my husband built to go over a coleman camp stove, but never thought about baking on a grill. Going to try that! We just bought a new stove & I have had nothing but problems. We had to order 3, before we got one that wasn't dented all to hell in the box. It will NOT stay lit if you change the temp, so you have to keep relighting, relighting,.... its taking an hour!!!!to bake a loaf of bread! We even special ordered this no-frills stove & its made in the USA, but so disappointed. I need work horse appliances & it ain't it.

I once bought about 20 starts of various things such as tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and the day I put them on the ground it was super hot around 90 degrees or so and every plant withered in the sun within a few hours. I totally get that disappointment. ❤
