I absolutely LOVE that you're including more of your 'quirky' side and real life footage. Your husband coming in at the start for a kiss is absolutely what my husband would do. I also have a personal steppy stool for the kitchen where I can reach very few things hahaha. Also I think it would be incredible if you wrote a book with all your amazing check lists, how to's and favourite recipes! A guide to being a homemaker. I've looked for a few and ended up starting a notebook to write everything down as I learn it!

Thank you for saying when you are in the thick of young children it’s not necessary for you to host. I have a hosting heart, but I’m a homeschooling mama of three very young children. I just came across your channel in my suggestions. I’m so glad I did. Thank you and God bless you and your family.

Aw. I'm so sorry you went through church trauma. My husband and I also experienced spiritual abuse from the elders where my hubby was pastor. We had to leave there, but God brought us out and has only strengthened our love for the church when we could easy have become bitter. My husband is now a prison chaplain. We had to move six hours from family, but he's given us new blessings here. Thank you for the prayer.

Too many chickens? Who has ever heard of such a thing. My chicken math involves lots of multiplication🤣 I LOVE hosting! I have a superhero power; I can whip up a party in like 1/2 an hour with only what I have on hand - like a bridal shower or luncheon. I do EVERYTHING the day before for big hosting, set the tables the night before & then party hearty. But for the quick one...I literally have like an adrenaline rush, I save everything (decorations, glassware, favors, etc...). I can also spread dinner fixings for 'unexpected' guests with lots of tricks. When you grow up on a farm, as the wife, you have to think on the fly to cook for 'hands' doing hay or other chores. My top is cooking dinner for 18 at my inlaw's farm within 1/2 hour & only what we had on hand. & recently did breakfast for a dozen - a waffle party after morning chores in the barn. I am like a cooking, hosting machine. Then I go to my chair & crash😆

I felt guilty for so long not hosting much in the thick of having four littles, but honestly it was for the best. There are definitely seasons of life, and we should embrace them :)

Maybe I'm the exception, and it's definitely gotten easier as I've been married with small kids almost 10 years and have practiced a lot at this point, but I do regularly have people over for dinner despite having 5 small children. I feel I would hardly socialize otherwise and I really do enjoy having folks over. I try to keep it pretty low stress. Get the cleaning done a couple days in advance if I know things are grimy, and stick with cooking something simple that I already know how to cook that the whole family enjoys and just make extra. ❤

    One more comment 😉😄
I just have to say that I love your videos!! Often in your introduction you will comment that you are an older homemaker. But I just want to say that this is why I watch you. Your ways have been tried and tested and worked out. For older moms, like myself, who are older and many many years into homemaking and parenting, it is helpful to have a fellow mom who isn’t a “spring chicken” as you say 😉. Also I just want to encourage you that it is wise to not always share and disclose everything (proverbs 12:23). Anyway thanks again for your videos and wisdom.
    Hugs,
    Katie

😂😂😂 “the difference between boys idea of a clean kitchen and a girls” SO TRUE! My eldest son’s (17yo) job is to detail and clean planes. The other day he did a 25million dollar brand new police helicopter. The boss was thrilled with his work. THEN he was in my kitchen and “wiped up” the counter like I asked. I looked at it and asked if that is how he cleans the aircraft. 😂 I got a sheepish grin and a “ya got me” smile and he said…. Well your counter is not worth 25million .
😂 I just pointed to the counter top…..

My husband watched this video with me today and he says that everything looks so delicious. I like to make things with goat cheese and honey too but not the way you did this. Wow! mm.
I am glad that there are older women or women who can help you and guide us all through things that can be hard. I have been in those lonely places in the past through being a mom. I have seen other moms and they are home alone with their kids and I know what that is like, so I check up on them. Motherhood is not as easy as maybe it seems to people who don't have kids. I am glad that my mindset has grown about motherhood as I have been a mom for these years. I take one day off a week where I don't cook at all to give me rest too. Can some of your kids help you with the baking so it goes faster or is that not something they are into? You are a great mama and doing well. Keep up the hard work. You are incredible.

    • @mountainhomesteadfamily

I love that you check up on the mom's home alone with the kids all day. Although we have not met, your sweet comments and a couple of the videos you have made on your channel have let me know enough about you that this doesn't surprise me about you!
Funny you mentioned that about the baking, they have been getting more into it, and last week one of my middle son's was voted "best baker in the house" by the whole family! And yesterday my little girl and I were going to make a cake together, but I was getting through some household tasks and came back and she had it all measured and mixed! Blew my mind! I've been teaching her but I didn't realize she was as advanced as she is!
Thank you for the kind words, you are incredible too, Victoria!

Genuine and practical question, asking for me and my (almost) wife's future: We hope to be frugal in our spending, generous and hospitable with our home/resources, and develop a larger repertoire of cheap, easy, yet delicious and nutritious meals. At the moment, and for several foreseeable years into the future, she will not be able to be a homemaker "full-time". Eventually, this is our goal. I see that you spend quite a bit of time cooking, making items to sell/utilize, etc. My question is, may I ask which of your monthly bills is the most costly, given this lifestyle (a beautiful and God-honoring one, I must say) your family has chosen? Does anything from month-to-month seem like it might make homesteading/homemaking difficult? (For example, your oven/range must be on quite a long time each week, so that monthly utility might be expensive, but that is something you're willing to bear.) Thank you for entertaining my question! Soli Deo Gloria!

    • @mountainhomesteadfamily
      @mountainhomesteadfamily  13 дней назад +1

Hello! The most costly bills would be the mortgage and groceries as we are big family. Second would be utilities and general goods and supplies.
Having children makes a really big difference in all of this though. For you, not having children starting out it will be more wise for your wife to make income, even if it is just from home. Work towards getting your home and getting it paid off. It's a big investment, especially if you are able to get your first home in a decent location that will resell well.
Once children start entering the picture everything changes. For most people in the USA, the costs of daycare would be more than what a mother could earn, especially if there are multiple children. So being a homemaker and practicing homemaking skills actually saves thousands upon thousands of dollars. I wrote an article on this years ago, and the worth of a homemaker. You can find it here. singinganewsong.com/what-is-a-homemaker-homemaker-definition/ This will help answer a lot of your questions and put things into perspective.
Homesteading...this is a whole separate subject. It does cost to do this, so one of the goals with it should be to get the homestead paying for itself as soon as possible, especially if one is not independently wealthy. I'll be doing video soon on ways to save an make money on a homestead. Be on the lookout for it because I think it will help you know more about that lifestyle! It's publishing in July.
Let me know if you think I can be of any more help, or if you have further questions, and BEST WISHES and blessings to you and your future wife!!
