Trimming The King

  • After feeding my D. ‘King Henry’ it’s time to trim the King up a bit. The large meal has a tendency to “burn” traps as the leaves are capable of only absorbing some many nutrients. This cultivar seems to like to form dense, tight clusters of traps, so I like to keep the center of each plant as open as possible by removing old brown traps. This allows room for other traps to grow in larger without over-crowding.
To trim or not to trim, that is the question? No one trims them in the wild! They will be just fine without any trimming. Trimming does seem to stimulate new growth, and make it more visually appealing, so personally I like to trim.
Plus it gives you some bonding time with your plant buddies. 😏
