I love how you squealed when Avi started singing…I did the same first time I heard this! They have an official video for their cover of this song that’s really good. You should check it out!
Yes, definitely! I love their video for this one. Very creatively shot. And the closing solo for Avi was a special treat... especially for those who had only seen the group on their Sing-Off season, as he had really only done bass background rhythms. Getting to hear what he's fully capable of was special. I love his voice... as someone who sang bass all the way through school (Jr. High through college), I've often said that he has the voice I always wished I had.
Just a note... at the end of the clip you can hear Nick announcing that the PTX Volume II album is now available. This didn't make sense to me at first. Did they create two full albums in a single year? The reason is that, although this is the next season of the Sing-Off after they won in 2011, it is actually two full years later. The Sing-Off did not have a 2012 season because of all the legal wrangling with Sony which did not honour their contract with them. The show can hardly offer a prize to the next contestants if it cannot be guaranteed. It all got sorted out eventually. So this is two years after they won, by which time they were massively popular and had done all kinds of performances, including television appearances. Yes, they were VERY comfortable with each other by this point. I especially love that Avi finally got a singing solo on the Sing-Off stage.
It always struck me as odd that Sony would offer a contract as a prize that they had to have known they were going to back out of as soon as they possibly could, and I couldn't understand how the show would be able to go on if all of the contestants knew that the "prize" was non-existent - other than the publicity of the show, who wants to put all of that hard work into it when you know the "reward" will disappear immediately? And I knew that Home Free won the season 4 show, but everything said it was in 2013, which didn't make sense. Now I finally understand, so thank you!
@@Badger77722 Apparently there was a staff/leadership change at the label during the season and they were barely aware they were gonna get people from that show. So when PTX showed up on their doorstep they basically did some market research, seeing how a capella groups did, decided that was a crappy business choice (which at the time, it generally was) and said "you can use instruments right?". The band decided not to so the contract was ended (with a kill fee so Pentatonix got money in hand so they could move to LA since the prize money from the show didn't come until months or a year later with loads of taxes removed and split in 5). So they're nowdays happy because they got money in hand to get going while there was still momentum, plus were not tied to a competition contract with a traditional label. No way a label at that time could have marketed them in a way like they ended up doing. PTX were like 5 years ahead of the mainstream labels with using social media and youtube for promo.
For a fun video of a side project, my favorite is Super Fruit with guest artist Kirstin. They do a medley from Frozen that has it all: Laughing Great singing Friendship goals Acting ability 😂😮😊
Another one I just love! Even when they're clearly just goofing around they sound amazing, they even get into the characters and we see a little glimmer of their acting chops.
My memory may be faulty, but off the top of my head, I don't recall Avi soloing in their winning season, so that was his opportunity to shine on that stage. Love that! Yes, solo stuff! I am obsessed with Mitch's new release "Oblivion" from his Messer project, and Scott's got an EP being released in four days. He has dropped three of the songs already, "Mars," "Parallel," and "Four." All of them are love songs to Mark, which is not surprising since they got just got married. Absolutely love, all of them.
@@jcs1025 No, he didn't. I'm trying to think if they even did any 5 part harmonies in the Sing Off numbers. I am gonna have to go watch them all again, lol. Poor me. 🤣
jcs1025, Kevin didn't solo sing during the show openers, but he was featured as *the* beatboxer several times, as a horn once, and as a rapper in the hip-hop week opener. The hip-hop opener was the only one that didn't feature Scott, but Kevin and Kirstie got their little star turns.
@@jcs1025 No Kevin didn't sing he was not really confident in his vocal ability. After the Sing Off he took voice lessons from Avi and developed his confidence and that beautiful tenor voice.
I can't help but smile watching this. Truly a homecoming as champions. Especially with the whole record deal fiasco!! They are really showing up as professionals, and I love it!
I agree with you that they did not seem as exhausted and stressed as they did toward the end of their season on the SO. They had a great time doing this, and it showed. Did you notice Avi's hip moves??? Shawn and Ben were both judges this season, and Sara Bareilles had left and Jewel joined them. I always regretted that neither Avi or Kevin had a chance to sing even a short solo during their time on the show, so I'm glad Avi got to do it here. Did you notice Ben clap when he started to sing? It was great!
One big difference between their original performances and this performance is simply the amount of experience they had in this performing as a group in front of a live audience. While the first year after The Sing-off was difficult for a number of reasons, they were touring and performing for live audiences as often as they could get bookings, and just the experience of standing up in front of people to perform as a group has really made a difference in their self-confidence and stage presence.
They were just so good and still are. For me, the best moment is when Avi sings, the audience’s reaction is priceless - and so is yours! I hope you’ll find the time to react to more of Avi’s own brilliant music and suggest “Otherside” and “First place I go”.
In the solos - don't wait too long before you choose one of Kevin Olusola - KO Kovers, or original. I really like his original "Renegade", and his cover of "True Colors"

I was wondering that yeah, because I knew their season was in 2011. So I figured this was 2 years later! 😊
Agree knowing what we know now about Avi's voice it was nice to see him get a chance to sing on that stage.
