  • As far as I know this is the only live footage of these two in concert anywhere. Recorded on New Zealand Television in the 80s when they were down here.

They were a great couple. Wrote all these fantastic songs. And she's great singer for these songs with him chipping in and harmonising well. He is a true musician.
Thinking about it ... Jackie sounds just as good on the songs as Petula Clark in so many ways. Given that she was a writer of most of the songs, she deserved better.

I prefer Jackie Trent live to her recordings. On stage, she appears even warmer than Petula Clark. She has outstanding stage presence. I don't understand how she was not much more popular as a singer. I prefer Jackie to almost all of the 1960s, 1970s girl singers from the U.S.

Great video thank you. Sadly, this the only performance footage of these exceptionally talented and popular artists on YT. If you go on Tony Hatch's Facebook page under the 'Community' section, you will find a live 1974 TV performance with a full band of their No 1 hit 'The Two Of Us'. It's absolutely sensational with Tony & Jackie at their absolute best. The accompanying interview on the show indicates they performed a number of their hits on this Dutch TV show.

Jackie Trent sounds perhaps even a little better in the late 1980s than she did in the 1960s. In my opinion she was a better singer than the more successful female British singers such as LuLu and Sandie Shaw. Tony Hatch had guts to sing with his wife, and in public.

I think they were not acknowledged properly. Their image wasn’t the best...a bit Blackpool-esque. Also song writers were not given any credit overtly for their creations which the should be. They were a great partnership.

    • @VealParmigiana

Jackie was pretty, and Elvis was attracted to her. Some of Jackie's ballads were ahead of her time, and thus she was less successful as a recording artist than inferior female vocalists. Petula Clark was an excellent song writer, particularly in her French recordings and is very underrated as a song writer, while Jackie is underrated as a singer. I wish that Jackie would have recorded more songs.
