Wonderful. A string of 60s hits, all good. Hits in the 40s and 50s as well The oldest of the female English pop triumvirate of Cilla Black and Dusty Springfield and the surviving of this triumvirate.
She has a haunting voice that brings me back too the heart of rock and roll with the stones, beatles, lovin spoonful...OMG!! She is one of the most uplifting voices ever!
GOD what a crush I had on her in 1965 ! I was 19 but never knew she was already in her 30's ! Loved her voice. One of the Best imports from England ever ! A true talent !
How the years have gone by so quick. I am 71 and still enjoy listening to the 50's, 60's and part of the 70's. It tells us we had the greatest years of great music etc. Today the younger ones don't get the message. Sad but so true. Petula Clark another female artist with a great voice and worth listening to.
Her delivery, timing and reach are amazing. No gadgets, just sang it. So much elegance, femininity and ability. So little of it around today. They could learn alot if they listened her. I love it..
Spot on. For what are often called the decadent/swinging 60s the singers - the ladies in particular - were much more coy and demure than the 'in your face' attitude we see often today. Makes a refreshing change to enjoy the older ones again.
Amanda...Nice comment, Hon, and your question prompted this reply. Petula Clark fit the bill, so to speak. She and ABBA kept our love songs alive and well through the 1970s, then came the Vietnam fiasco and our new music went from love songs to protest and hate songs. amd it's been for shit ever since. I'd guess the late seventies is when "they stopped making great music." Today, allow me to suggest Europe's beauties, Helene Fischer, Germany, Melissa Naschenweng, Austria, Linda Fah, Swiss...all beautiful women who sing beautifully, mostly love songs, music we grew up with. Trust me, language barriers mean nothing...you'll know they're love songs.Cheers!!!
No, you aren't the only one. I was 14 years old when this song came out. Listening on an AM station, that faded in and out, but singing every word and meaning it.
Petula always sang good songs and this one is very good to hear and enjoy. Very Romantic and nicely sung and the instruments backing her make a good music too.
Pet Clarke was a true talent and we all loved her back in the mid 1960s when the music was great and America was still America. What a shame to see what we have allowed ourselves to become and yet the masses feel everything is just swell as we slide silently into the abyss and without so much as a whimper become relegated to the ash bin of history.
Well said indeed. Backup musicians had to know how to play and read music. Petula didint need to show any of her flesh. Her voice was and is her talent.
I was in England in 1967 and watched "Top Of The Pops" on BBC and Petula sang this. song. Every time I see her sing this song it takes me back to the day in Newcastle On Tyne, in Jesmond on St Georges Terrace, in my brother flat.

As a 1960's boy I loved this song I love it even more now, perfectly sums up life then, carefree and happy, how sad it's turned into these awful times.
Petula Clark was so popular when we lived in France (1962-1964); we got much of our music from England back then. When we returned to the USA in 1964, my sister used to have great parties and Petula's songs would be on the record player. Oh, it brings back so many happy/sad/sentimental memories. Thank you Petula. Great music!

I don't know what it is, but the contemplative expression on her face early on when she sings "All I ever do is think about you," and glances up, then down and away and kind of purses her lips just kills me. There's genuine soul coming through. Maybe it's because she was a trained actress, but she really "sells" this song without detectable artifice. Just lovely.
What fabulous memories great song from a great artist my favourite of petulas
Absolutely great song and singer; different world back then; someone said innocent, relatively.
Best version of such a great song. And one of our best ever singers . Class beauty and style ... our Petula .
