    Take a look at the people who comment against this video.
    Now, take a look at their profile and who they are.
    They're just like the white dad at the end.
    It doesn't happen to them, so they don't think it happens at all.

      I posted something like this once but about men who were commenting and saying women liked getting catcalled, I got a bunch of hate. Guess who from? The men who would do it. So, if you have anything rude to comment on here, go ahead. I'll simply delete it and block you, so there's no point. I always comment and say I will delete it, people don't listen to me, and they do it anyways. I always do.

    As a white person living in a very undiverse (indiverse? Maybe? What I mean to say is that we have very few people of color.) community, I had no idea that these kind of things existed. I'm greatly saddened by the reality of the situation as learned through the recent tragedies, but it's a good thing that ignorant people like me are learning about these things. It's really disturbing that such a racial divide still exists, and I hope that now that it has national attention, people will start doing things about it.

    This video brought me to tears with its truth. My son is 9 years old with Asperger's. His 'take everything literal' and other quirks could make one racist, egomaniac cop think he's "just being a wise guy," or something like that. He's 9 years old, and we've already had discussions on the police and police bruality. He's 9 and has nightmares that one day, I'll be shot and killed by a bad cop.
    When I see a cop--even though I'm doing NOTHING wrong--I get nervous. I tell myself, "try to LOOK innocent. Don't look his way. Smile if you make eye contact. Make him see you're nonthreatening." When I get stopped, I turn my car off, pull out my ID and insurance card, press record on my phone, look straight ahead, and put both hands on the wheel. If it's dark, I turn the inside light on so he/she can see clearly.

    This is a powerful message I'm samoan and have always been taught that no authority is infallible, pure, or good-hearted, that actions show their true colors. My black friends have always told me how their parents had this kind of talk and I learned from them how they're always expected to be seen as by other races in general and especially by police.

Black parents are quick to say "defend yourself always" but now in America, there is no such thing as self defense for Black people! Please parents talk with you children about dealing with cops because most of them are trained to act accordingly to the color of your skin, hardly ever by your actions.!

    I don't understand why people act as though this country just a few generations ago was not in support of segregation. Like people did not throw acid at blacks for being in "white only" pools. Like Hispanic immigrants weren't targeted by the police for just walking down the street and then beaten and arrested for nothing. Why is it the because some people, whom have never experienced these problems or had someone close to them experience them, say it is ok that we should not complain. The recent movements aganist police brutality is not just an anti-cop movement, but an acknowledgement of the fact that some police do harass people, do kill unarmed and innocent civilains, black white or any other color, and should be held accountable to the public like anyone else. There is a reason so many minorities do not trust the police and it has nothing to do with ignorance, but fear of what has been done to them historically in this country. Do not forget it was not to long ago that police were encouraged to target minorities, encouraged to make sure they knew their place and did not step out of line. If you do not believe me look at the police response during MLK's marches.
    The police as institution are only as morally righteous as the majority of the public wants them to be.

  • @rchrdsn

    The video is touching, but the black world is a "little" more chaotic intrisically than the white's, so a change within themselves would be most of the help it is needed for this distortion to decrease to a tolerable level. Most of what I can see, especially under Obama's Gov't, is the senseless extra exposure of the differences. I'm not saying people should not learn there's a difference, for instance, in the past of both colors, but the way it's been done is making things worse, because it is stimulating hatred quicker than anything else. I remember when I read Obama saying that Travys could be his son. If he's talking about color, it makes sense. It could also apply to a white, because it can happen, although much less likely. The fact is that he wasn't supposed to do so. I don't know if Obama thought it would comfort the black community, but it did more than that, IMO. I saw not only Obama getting closer to the black community, but also encouraging them to overreact, as it happened in 2014 (although, the case of the guy tha was choked to death and was filmed was an absurd), and this is a totalitarian tactic of government. You know, class conflict, minoritites' victimization, etc. Socialism, comunism, xit,... Wrong way.

      It has its positives. sadly, this is one of the major negatives that was usually joked about previously. Just watch any black comedian stand up or show/movies. Everyone had just accepted it and laughed about such situations. but with the recent deaths (some of which on videos), many have brought awareness to remind the country again that this is not a laughing matter. Hard to find the truth funny when its so obviously wrong in videos. And its so much worse when history seems to be repeating itself.... rodney king anyone.... =/
      But i'd like to believe, as an american, we will learn from such mistakes and progress accordingly, especially with videos like these to make the country aware.
      How diverse is canada? Could it be similar yet those of color haven't voiced the difference?

    This is not a tutorial video about what to do when a cop stops you. A white-presenting person saying "The things that black parents say is just common sense, I'm nice to cops as well!" is missing the point. Of course you want to appease those who have the power to punish you.
    This is a video about black parents knowing that if they don't ingrain this knowledge into their children, it could mean the difference between life and death. Not an extra night behind bars, not a larger fine, not even broken bones or a face full of pepper spray.
    Life and death.
    If white parents give you this conversation, they're saying "Don't piss off the police. The people meant to protect the city are working for you."
    If black parents give you this conversation, they're saying "Don't SCARE the police. The people meant to protect the city perceive you as a threat."

  • @TheFirstHurrah

    0:14? EVERYBODY gets taught that. I'm a white girl and I was taught that. The "If you're ever stopped by a cop, you act extra-polite, 'no officer, yes officer,' don't argue with them even if you think they're wrong, if you have to you can fight it in court later" line. And 0:12 is kind of just common sense really. 0:09 even makes sense if you live in an area where there are a lot of teenagers who carry guns. And the people at the end? That's a completely different situation! The dad wasn't telling his son what to do if he gets stopped by a cop, he was telling him what to do if he was ever lost or something! I'm not saying a bias doesn't potentially exist, but these examples are kind of stupid.

      Man I wish I could live the privilege of thinking it was really as simple as pretending it isn't there. But it is. Racial profiling exists. Pretending it isn't there won't make it go away. • @danielley708
      @danielley708 9 лет назад +15

      All of the racial tension will disappear when Black people and other POC have the same fundamental rights as white people (when it's not just written on paper but exercised in real life) that's when it will "disappear" when white people like yourself are no longer afraid to acknowledge and own up to the fact that there is a racial divide in America because of racism. People like you are a part of the problem and truly need to educate yourself. Thinking that people should "stop making a big deal about race" is choosing to be ignorant that racism is a big deal. When it comes to Black people dealing with racist situations vs people like you debating on an experience you've never had to deal with of course it isn't important to you that's called privilege! and that privilege that you have and POC don't should tell you a lot.

      I don't think it's an anti-cop commercial. Rather it is designed to raise awareness of the fact that that while for the most part white people can depend on cops to protect them, black/brown people aren't afforded that luxury. It's just trying to bring attention to an issue that has been ignored for a long time.

    This vid really makes me feel unconfortable, it does not serve anything but stimulate anger and make differences bigger between people. The more we keep on producing things like that, the less we help to ameliorate the situation. To me, it's kind of affirmative action poorly thought. I hope my words won't be wrongly interpreted.

    • @chakirabranch77
      @chakirabranch77 9 лет назад +25

      Ben Heyndrickx Don't feel that your words will be wrongly interpreted, we want your feedback. This video was made to share with the world "The Talk" that many black parents have to give their sons.If you think the video is uncomfortable, how much more uncomfortable will a parent feel having this discussion with their child. Who wants to talk about the potential of being stopped by police, which happens to young men of color more often than not. No one wants to have this talk, but the reality is, as we have seen with the deaths of #EricGarner, #TamirRice, #MichaelBrown , and many more. Young men of color, especially black men and Latino men are seen as a threat and are at risk of being shot by the police even if they are innocent and unarmed. So the talk is a way of ensuring that black and brown children remain calm, be smart, and get home safely. As you've correctly stated, we don't want to make the differences bigger, however, we do want to let people know that this happens in households, particularly in households with young men of color. The questions is: Why is their a separate dialogue between parents of young men of color and parents of white males? Why do black men have to take all the necessary precautions to make sure they come home safe after an interaction with police and white parent view the police as protectors for this children? This divide is what angers people the most This is not going to anger people, it has been published for six days and no one has written any bad comments. This video has opened a dialogue and let people know of the disparity. I welcome your thoughts about my statement.

    • @jlora1230
      @jlora1230 9 лет назад +20

      This video is supposed to make us feel uncomfortable, because this is the disturbing reality that we live in. There's nothing cynical or divisive about this video. We need to be able to break out of our comfort zones and transparently talk about why are police seen and experienced so differently in amongst different communities? Why is the police response different to the same crimes committed by people when race, class, ethnicity, gender, etc. are factors? I think what you're referring to in what COULD help ameliorate the situation is shown in the faces of those young men when having "The Talk" for the first time... they were ALREADY being raised to accept and respect all people, so to HAVE to be taught about how to interact with police with such gravity is disturbing.

    • @swangtotheleft5348
      @swangtotheleft5348 9 лет назад +7

      Its supposed to make you uncomfortable. How will seeing this 'stimulate anger'? Blacks & people of color wont see this and get outraged because this is REALITY that black&brown people see every day, this commercial wont change their minds. We DO get this talk of how we WILL get harassed by the police and if we arent careful then we WILL die. The videos purpose is to show 'White America' who is largely unaware of this fact that we do live separate realities and ours is constantly fearing the police.

    • @kenirainseeker539
      @kenirainseeker539 9 лет назад +11

      Good. It should make you feel uncomfortable. That's the point. If black people always said nice and comfortable things to make white people feel warm and fuzzy inside, nothing would get done.
      This SHOULD stimulate anger. Anger can be channeled into positive action. And some shit is worth getting angry about.
