Tons of heart-felt props to you, Mrs. Whipple, for helping kids discover a world apart from screens and text messages. Long may your banner wave. Cheers.
I live in Michigan and got lost in the Midland area deer hunting, after two hours of walking in the wood and 1.5 miles of walking on a road I found my truck. I was hunting 100 yards from my truck. I was not prepared to spend the night in the woods. Teaching kids survival skills is a great thing.
My husband was a Scout leader in town for several years during the '90's. He taught both our grandchildren how to light fire with flint and steel by the time they were six years old. Valuable skill to have! It's awesome to watch you teaching life saving skills.
I absolutely LOVE classes like these because not only do you plant a seed in their memories that might save a life in the future, but you remove irrational fear of the outdoors and being lost. So well done Brooke!
You are one great instructor and to work with impressionable kids...wow, the potential for future teachers is bright. Great job, Brooke Whipple. You rock!
so cool to have great people like you out there teaching kids a little bit about the outdoors. its also nice that the kids were willing to learn. i stop trying to teach kids in groups these days because they dont care to learn about this kind of stuff anymore, but when i am out and about doing my thing and a child asks about what i am doing i will take the time to show and teach them. i remember teaching a mentally challenged child not to be afraid of the dark in a cave and taught them how to feel with their hands and feet and hear with their ears so they wouldnt get hurt, oh and to stay calm. funny thing was she was at camp later that year and she told me how she kept everyone calm when they went into a cave and the power went out she helped everyone stay calm and find their way back out to the entrance where they sat till it stopped raining and help came and got them. she was proud and so was i. keep up the great work you do.
Some lucky kids, getting a special class with GITW. Way to add water to those sponges! Wish my folks had sent me to classes like that at that age. You were awesome with those kids! Been wondering about "the big announcement" can't wait! Super great video B...Thanks for sharing with us.
I love teaching kids the skills to survive...watching their faces when they learn something new is so much fun...I taught my two sons and their friends how to live and survive in the woods and now they are teaching their kids the same skills...!
Excellent! Maybe this will catch on and others do this on their local level. Letting them touch and do things is really cool and the kids have so much fun and you know they will remember what you did for the rest of their lives. This is also important because it teaches them respect for the wilderness at the same time. You should video the whole program so you can enjoy it yourself years and years later and also why you do these things. Good Job!!!
I love how you build their confidence! Telling them they're smart, telling them they can survive if they use their brains. Confidence and self security are so important to instil in kids. And when they feel good and respected, they are more engaged. This seems simple but a lot of educators don't get it. I wish I'd had a teacher like you when I was that age.
Wow, you have the patience of a saint! I would want to superglue most kids to the ceiling, but by being as patient as you are, you were able to show them so much important stuff, and they picked up on it so quickly. Great job, Brooke!
GREAT display of items to show them! And sooooo awesome you let them touch everything! YOU are a GREAT TEACHER and ACTRESS!!!! I taught 5th Grade too and I would have LOVED for my kids and me too , to be able take survival classws from YOU!!
This is a great push to keep my goal, to get young ladies outside. You did a great job in keeping everyones attention. I would love to do something like this with kids too, and hope to at my camp once it is all set up. Wonderful video, thanks for sharing.
So awesome teaching kids, I did that with my grandchildren and grown up now, they still remember our survival lessons fondly - now starting on my two great grandchildren!
I'm from Michigan too. My hats off to you fine lady. Love that you are passing this on. So much fun to teach kids. They are all ears. I mentor kids in beekeeping so much fun. Keep up the great work!!!
That's a great video!! Sharing the knowledge is very gratifying, and seeing the faces light up with delight on these youngsters' faces is fun to watch indeed!!!! Hope you are ab!e to continue this tradition!!!
Another excellent video!!! You should be so proud, being able to teach those kids skills that could save there lives! And doing it having fun with them! You are remarkable! Buz
I love this video. Kids are so enthusiastic and soak up stuff like a sponge. There's a natural love for the outdoors if you can get them away from the video games and outside for 5 minutes.
Fantastic video Brooke! You did a great job teaching children how to save them selves. Teaching children the most important skills everyone should have.
That is freaking awesome!!! kids that age are so eager to learn IF you find something that will interest & keep their attention. I really loved teaching my two & pass on what I know to anyone who wants listen & learn. You are a lucky lady & the kids you get to teach I'm sure will never forget you or what you show them. Well done, it's inspiring 👍
thanks for taking your time to pass on to the kids it's great to see you working with them hope you continue sharing wish you all the very best until next time my friend
That was just awesome to see the kids having so much fun and learning new skills at the same time , instead of computer games...... Well done to you for making a huge change to peoples lifes
This is my favy video yet! This warmed my heart. I really want to take my 4 oldest grandkids (ages 7-9) on a camping roadtrip & do your class for them. I think they would love it. Seeing kids learn survival is just such a great thing.
Great chicken video! I love the way that you interact with them. They loved you! Also, you have them tools that will help them throughout life. Great work!
Great job with the kiddos. Wish there were more classes like that available to all the school kids.... it can really have a lasting impact on them and someday may help save a life. Have you ever gotten lost before? It's crazy how easily it can happen. I was reading this story that happened a few weeks ago about this girl and her dog who were hiking near Glacier NP. They went down to this stream to get a drink of water, came back up and went the wrong direction. They wandered for 6 days with no food or shelter and were discovered by other hikers.
Hi Brooke! Boy did I learn a lot during this video! I was really excited, and was paying attention intently to what you were saying. Thanks for sharing all those survival tips. You're simply the best! With warmest regards, Callie from California.
Great job with the kids . You really inspired them to enjoy the outdoors . The excitement in their faces when they made fire with a cotton ball and fire steel . I can't wait for your announcement next week , ALONE ? Hope there is a day 2 with the kids . TFS , ATB , Ken 🇨🇦 .
If not your best it's right up there, no I think it's the best and you're the best. Great job! One of the best lessons those kids learned in their school career.
Fantastic inspirational video on how to teach survival and outdoor life in an educational and playful way. More leadership is needed to bring knowledge to the general public about how to act in nature, very good to start with children so they learn. The children can then tell their parents and siblings how to act. I'm quite used to being in nature, but still got good tips, thanks!
What a great experience, for you as well as the kids! Love how you gave them the confidence to know they were all smart enough to survive in the woods. I wonder how many kids went home to build a shelter like yours and how many are asking for their own ferro rod. So cool to see their excitement and awe!
Yes I encouraged them all to hit the woods that weekend and try to build a shelter... and many wanted to know where to get a ferro rod. So fun! Thanks for watching Susan!
Good morning Brooke,it's 4:30 am here in IN and here I set watching your vid before work. It really helps start my day,ty for all the work you do,you have been truly blessed:) S&S
That is so cool and such a valuable lesson! Learning to whistle is good too. When I was 12 my family went boat camping and dropped me and the dogs and gear off and went back down lake to get everyone. By boat was the only way in unless you wanted to hike for 10 miles. The wind came up and water started white-capping and hours had gone by and it was getting dark. I did build a fire in the lean-to but it was too far from the water to see. I finially heard a boat come up but it went right by me and they couldn't hear me yell over their boat motor. If only I knew how to whistle. They figured out they had went too far and came back and found me. I vowed to learn how to whistle after that.
Loved this one.....those kids are all able to handle a critical problem like getting lost doing exactly as you said. Not paying attention as they go along gathering. I’ve done just that and gotten lost.
Brooke i was hunting in Vermont with my neighbor we got lost so i climbed a tree so i could look around my neighbor says what do you see ? More trees we got out next morning lucky us 10 mi. From where we started my neighbor was mad sometimes you win sometime you lose i call it a win we got out alive love your show nothing like it
great instructions from a great instructor!...we all learn something from this!... feels good when the knowledge is past on and received well. thanks for the video GITW!
My husband taught a survival class at Kotzebue H.S. after losing a student jogging to hyperthermia. He could have used the info about Birch bark. We always carried a small aluminum case of basic survival gear. There were some trees up river. Hope these classes are continuing and catch on.
You being positive about a situation that may happen to one of these kids, may save their life. Well done & do the same thing with other kids. It may help the adults also as they were interacting also
Awesome video Brooke...this might just have become my favorite. The interaction you had with the kids was pretty neat to watch. Sage advice and tips for anyone at any age. I myself have been temporarily misplaced in the woods a time or two (as a man "lost" is not in my vocabulary), so I'm really glad that you posted this. Hopefully those kids take what you taught them to heart and can learn to appreciate your teachings down the line. Have a wonderful day Brooke, I always look forward to your next videos.
That was cool! Hands on teaching always seems best, u are really good with the lil ones... u can tell they are totally enjoying themselves, especially at the end... making fire! Cracked me up when u acted like u were gonna die! Great instructions and examples u had. Loved watching this, twice!
woohoo and super duper cool stuff my friend 😇 I knew you were amazing but a Michigan gerl puts it over the top !! thanks much for sharing with our future!!
Loved the video and what you are doing! We teach the S.T.O.P method. Sit and try to calm down,Think about what you have and what you need to survive a stay, Observe your surroundings to see what it has to offer for your stay, and last Plan for rescue. Things you can do to increase visibility and make location more revealing. Great job! Loved the show too!! Keep on keeping on!
That teacher is cute.
You can come to my classroom anytime!
LOL Mr Whipple!
Bushradical you are biased...
Yes she is you lucky dog!
hahaha!
Teaching can be so rewarding. One of my favorite things about it is when someone comes up to you years later and thanks you.
You got it Duck!
This just blesses me so much!!!! Those children will never forget this and it might save a life one day!
Tons of heart-felt props to you, Mrs. Whipple, for helping kids discover a world apart from screens and text messages. Long may your banner wave. Cheers.
Oh thanks much I really enjoy it ;)
You have instilled confidence in these kids, something thats really lacking these days. Great job preparing them for lifes little adventures.
Heck yah- can happen to any of us! And it doesn't take a vast wilderness to get turned around! Thanks for watching
My husband was a Scout leader in town for several years during the '90's. He taught both our grandchildren how to light fire with flint and steel by the time they were six years old. Valuable skill to have! It's awesome to watch you teaching life saving skills.

Teaching young minds is so rewarding
The joy when they get a fire is wonderful, what a great skill to share
Nothing so satisfying than teaching kids who want to learn The best working days of my life xx

Yeah that's the best part when they use something you taught them! Well done :)
Some lucky kids, getting a special class with GITW. Way to add water to those sponges! Wish my folks had
sent me to classes like that at that age. You were awesome with those kids!
Been wondering about "the big announcement" can't wait! Super great video B...Thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks Brandon! I think I'm the lucky one ;)

Great job Brooke. It was fun seeing the excitement in the kids as they realized they could actually do the fire thing... :-)
