Just saying, Peter, I most often watch you on a “Smart” TV.. ..though it lacks the capability to give you a ‘thumbs up’ - you earn it with every vid! Thank you, from a Seven-Toyota family, and as impressed with them as you ~
Most of the times these valve cover bolts just need to be tightened back to their specs, and it will solve the problem. But it's always good to replace valve cover gasket too. Winter is cold, yeah, keep warm!
Thank you Peter. Very helpful. The famous author Mark Twain (Samuel Clemons) once said many years ago "The coldest winter he ever remembered was a summer in San Francisco " Not so bad here in NYC. Stay warm. Maybe pick up an extra electric oil filled space heater for your shop. Take care.
I had a customer complain that her car smelled like it was burning after it warmed up. It started a month or so back and had no prior issues. Once on the hoist I found a traffic pylon wedged up between the catalytic converter and the floorboard.
I am still stunned that California is having snow. I live in Maryland, and where I live we had one snow which was not even half an inch. I hear California has had 40 feet of snow this winter. Wonderful for your drought problem, but it must be a real pain for those of you who aren't used to snow. Take care of yourself.
Had a similar problem with an 06 HiLux, 2.8l petrol 4 cylinder. Bought the gasket kit, watched the YT vids on the process and figured that even with those clear instructions the job would take me best part of a day. Explained the situation to the shop that does our car services and they said it would take them an hour, problem solved for $100.
It sounds like 'Blade Runner' rain out there. Tightening the bolts a LITTLE will might stop most of the leaking. Then spray the COLD engine in that area with some brake clean to wash off the oil. It hit 84 very humid degrees today in Louisiana. I had to switch on the AC at 4 p. m., after it hit 80 inside the house. We had to start cutting the grass 3 weeks ago!
I had this problem recently.. in fact, I had smoke blowing in thru the vents from the engine compartment 😂... Stupid oil pressure sender was leaking.. right onto the exhaust manifold and alternator.. sure a different problem, but still
Hello Sr. I am in California too and I’m your subscriber.. I just got a 2004 Toyota Tacoma v6 which has the same problem.. how much would you charge me to do the same job on my truck. I hope you are not to far from my house which is in Inglewood,California
I’m doing good here , northern, Ontario , Canada still have 4 plus feet of snow, it’s sunny and 36 F. Tonight 19.F. I’m definitely done with winter .. the coldest it got here was -38F feel like -45F with the windchill.. lol
I always thought California winters were mild except maybe the northernmost parts. Oh well, summer will be here before you know it! We had a nasty start to February here in central Texas, but it's been in the 80s for the past week or so 😂
Could tell it was a sequoia from the interior. Do you miss your girl you had years ago? Wish you could've kept it longer but cool to see you working on one again
Other than light varnish, that engine looks pretty clean! I wonder if high mileage oil can prevent the gaskets from hardening and slow the rubber deterioration. Eventually . . . it will happen
Try wearing a warm scarf around your neck but make sure it is tucked safely into your jacket. Also layer up with a base layer of long underwear and several other layers of wool, fleece etc. Finally a warm wool beanie over your ears. Sure you look like the Michelin Man, but who cares if you are warm(er)! Tips from cold and snowy Colorado Rocky Mountain National Park volunteer. ps love your videos!
I have a 2001 sequoia and the valve cover gaskets leaked for awhile. I had them replaced but the old oil keeps burning and smelling. How do I clean it off ?
I have a similar and persistant problem with a 3sge-engine. I cannot get it dry, it will always leak. I used Hylomar as additional sealant, but it seemed to get corroded by the hot oil. Which oil resistant sealant do you use for the problem corners....?
I love this channel but am having nightmares of being strapped in a chair and this guy speaking to me in this tone and accent while menacingly holding pliers and dental tools.
I'm so excited! I'm going to have a 2007 Tacoma 4x4 2.7L MT Access Cab, joining my fleet! I've been wanting one of these for years.... And the frame swap was done 4 years ago... Got lots of leaks to fix! Going to be watching EVERYTHING you've got on this model!
TY,,,,,,WOW incredible very interesting great information super kool, AAAAAAAAAAA++++++++++++ again great video I liked it a lot ,keep up the great work.

I replaced the valve cover gaskets on my 04 4runner. They were leaking oil into the plug wells causing misfires. Not too hard of a job.
High mileage oil cured my oil dripping from the valve gasket, likely a temporary solution though!

Hi from Barrie Ontario
I always thought California winters were mild except maybe the northernmost parts. Oh well, summer will be here before you know it!

What is your recommendation for replacing a 3.4 in a 2002 Tacoma? Reman or a jdm? Is this something you would be interested in doing?
Could tell it was a sequoia from the interior. Do you miss your girl you had years ago? Wish you could've kept it longer but cool to see you working on one again
It’s cold here in Arizona too. But looks like it’s going to get warmer again next week.

Excellent video. Great work. Where in California is your garage located? I would love to be a customer and bring my cars to you.

Do you advise no against getting the engine bay cleaned/detailed?
Great video, thank you!

Great work shop
As soon as I saw the headline I knew it was the valve covers.
Is it possible I smell the same thing because of the chain tentioner leak in Corolla 2011?
You crack me up! You are from much colder climates. Guess you are used to milder temperatures where you are.

Any chance you could address an ICS malfunction light?
Minneapolis lot of snow this winter
You poor people have snow til June. How do you deal with it?
Have a similar oil smell . 2006 Subaru sti. Especially at hwy speeds.
Ej257 engines tend to leak from valve covers onto the header. Get under there, remove the plastic shield and see for your self.
I see that nasty leak.
Just curious… That’s certainly not a “California dude” accent. Is he from Sweden?
I use to have a Mercedes with a really bad oil burnt smell very foul. Found it was coming from my differential.😮
Warmest winter here in ct
Turn the heater up or purchase a portable one. My portable one works great.
👍👍
Very common on the 4.7 and V6
I’m live in Manitoba, canada.it’s alway cold here 🥶
TY,,,,,,WOW incredible very interesting great information super kool,
