Considering that the first light sabers in Star Wars lore were also tethered to a battery pack worn on the back, this is pretty amazing.

This really is eerily familiar. The average technological level in the Star Wars universe was comparable to our own when the first Lightsabers were invented, too. Minus all of the hyperspace capable vessels that had their systems reverse-engineered, of course.

My dad built me a similar device when I was around ten, way back in nineteen eighty seven! It was obviously not as advanced and it was just basically a mini plasma torch, but I was able to dismantle an ‘83 rusted out Toyota Celica in under a few hours, so I loved it!

Technically according to Star Wars lore, a lightsaber is a loop of plasma that goes out of the hilt and is somehow looped back into the hilt again so once on and humming in the air it doesn't expend energy. This is said to be analogous to a superconducting loop, so energy is only expended when it comes in contact with something solid that sort of breaks the surface of the plasma, which in-universe also explains why the lightsaber can be portable with a relatively small battery pack since it's only when the blade is touched to something substantial that the loop is broken and energy is expended. This also accounts for the lore fact that a Star Wars lightsaber requires extreme strength and dexterity to use because of the associated "gyroscopic effects" caused by the superconducting plasma loop, and therefore can only be effectively wielded by a well-trained Jedi.

Ironically, this is how the first light sabers where made. With a small backpack to carry energy and connect the saber with and its all cannon. Until the crystals where used.
Yeah, it's still a Proto-saber. Hopefully more powerful and compact energy sources can be made soon, so the Hacksmith can make a _proper_ lightsaber prototype...

I vividly remember being a kid and looking at fictional blueprints for the construction of a lightsaber in this Star Wars book I had, and having an intense desire and belief that I could make one myself. I really believed it could be done. If it can be imagined, it can be created! Well done guys.

The first generation of real Jedis will be carrying propane tanks on their backs and a backup Machete in case they run out of propane during combat
well, first generations of fantasy Jedis also carried auxiliary units on their backs 😂 So this prototype is not really that far from the “real” thing.

According to star wars lore, this is accurate. The first ever lightsabers had a little energy box that they were attached to that the users wore on their waist. Obviously this one is a much bigger variant, but still.

This runs solely on combustion, there is not light or energy involved and it is NOT plasma based...it's very frustrating that he says that.
