    I also like to believe that by shooting the ego, the ego death will lead to a rebirth, and a change of the attitude. But Josephs theory is of course much more detailed and sophisticated. Thank you for this episode it was fire 🔥

    Re. the vision of the sun's 'tube': I'm suprised Jung didn't realize this, but if you look at a single point of light and squint, your squinted aperture creates a diffraction pattern perpindicular to the slit. Thus, you will see the tube. I tested this out to confirm. I looked at some tiny full-spectrum (not LED, but incandescent) christmas lights, and sure enough: when I squint, down comes a tube from each light. When I tilt head at angle, the tube remains perpindicular to my "squinted eye slit" Just as the patient described to Jung, and similarly to the description in the Papyrus. (I noted the papyrus seemed to be a poor translation, as if the translator didn't know what he was translating; perfectly understandable.)
    Another thought. Perhaps Jung also saw the tube as he stood beside the man. It would make logical sense that jung would keep this tidbit of info to himself, since everyone involved at the hospital attributed the 'vision' to the man's insanity. however, insane or not, the man merely saw what many people see due to squinting their eyes. Some may not see it if their eyes have different anatomy, or are dry eyes, etc...
    A little joke from someone who prefers Jung to Freud: The patient was probably Freudian since he saw the tube as a male appendage. (lol)
    Thank you for another splendid podcast, and thank you so much.

    The ministering wind mentioned in the mithraic text coming down through the tube is an inner experience of a particular type that Iamblichus defines in his "On The Mysteries" as divine possession. The ministering wind is the pnuema or rushing sound that accompanies the final dream image. Only someone who has had the experience themselves will understand these writings just as only someone who has experienced the god image within themselves will understand Jungs latter collected works, particularly Aion and Alchemical Studies. Great show!

    I agree with Deborah's interperetation of a dream, of a shooter being persecutory/protective inner figure, trying to sever emerging linkining via heightened self care and agression.

    Could one consider one's personal "muse" as mediating this archetypal energy into an art form?

    About the dream: Her turning into a young child at the moment the ash faced intruder took an aim at her stomach makes me feel as if she immediately became the helpless child, undefended and about to be killed. The area around the naval, the Manipur chakra or the Solar plexus is also a very interesting area, and the home of all our raw emotions like rage, fear, anxieities etc. And it is reasonable to assume that when we are small, most of what we are is all this emotional mix. So this abdomen is literally the life center of human beings, apart from also being the place of deep wisdom (where our "gut" feelings come from). So I would tend to agree with Deb's perspective on this one. A cruel zombie like force trying to literally kill the young girl for all her attempts to change her life

    I've been listening to the podcast for about a year now and enjoy the trios' insight into Jung.
    They mention q-anon from time to time as an archetypal expression. I wonder what they would connect with wokeism (identity politics, CRT, radical left ideologies, postmodernism, ETC.). I would assume like the democratic party it would be the Great Mother archetype or in my opinion the Devouring Mother which I assume is it's negative aspect.

    Re: dream .... I would characterize the animus ashen/emotionless shooter as a type of predator.... a persecutor figure... which often happens when a child disassociates... one aspect progresses (the protector) and one aspect regresses (the protected) to navigate the trauma... now... as adults, when one gets to close to that trauma, the protector becomes persecutor/predator that protects her from getting too close to the wound... I adore Kalsched

    Isn't Jung's interpretation of his dream as a metaphor for humanity and its psyche a bit grandiose of him? The interpretation of him having the answer to the human psyche in HIS mind? Freud interprets the dream according to his previous "discoveries" so why don't we see Jung's dream as the same confirmation of his previous theories, and take that as an individual thought concept and not as universal truth? After all, he was man, just like us.

    • @blissbrain
      @blissbrain 10 месяцев назад

      Or maybe it was a message he received in his dream, to NOT discount his own "answer to the human psyche' without seriously considering it as having merit? Just a thought.

      I think dreams are probably interpretable in several ways, confirmation bias validating our prior theories. But... As a human, he probably figured his mind was like others and could be applied to the collective. Rather than seeing it as self aggrandizing or chosen one like, it's more like 'the as above, so below' idea in certain esoteric ideologies. He was just a man. And every psyche can be understood through the careful analysis of just one. I'm just guessing here.

    The word archetype is actually quite old contrary to what was suggested early on in the podcast. The neoplatonists used it and St. Augustine used it.

      Actually even the pre soctatics used the term Arke. It was huset in a somewhat different way; i:e as the
      Primal ground of the universe/life.
