Video editing is probably your natural gift! Haven't seen cycling videos this easy to watch. Narrowing 10-12 hrs of ride into 17 min can not be easy... but your videos are simply hypnotizing, just can not move on.. and I am not even a cyclist... lol!
Your wife was very patient haha I remembered taking my wife somewhere far and coming across unexpected barriers/ dead ends and taking all the blame -.-
+Two Wheel Cruise So much win man: being in Japan, with Asian woman, riding a bike & she enjoys it too. YA THE MAN:) so envy. Someday, someday...thanks for the video!
Thanks Sir and Maam for your videos...I really like and enjoy watching them...we went to Osaka about 2 years ago...hope to do some biking when we visit again...more power and stay safe
Those barriers. Safety first! Make me wonder how many people have tried to just plow through them with disastrous consequences.... Thanks for making and sharing this great video, the effort to do this while on a ride like this is high and we really appreciate it! You simultaneously reminded me of so many things I miss about the Nagoya/Kyoto/Osaka area but also the ones that I don't miss (like the sequential barriers for no logical reason and the carefully planned shoulder paths just wide enough to be life threatening). Well done, love your stuff! (Edit: just realized you posted this video over 3 years ago when I was actually living there as well.... good times - better late than never! :)
Hello. I am the one who worked in tokyo as a wax carver, a public junior high teacher. I was in japan in 1993. I miss japan so much. I have my daily ride with my mtb after the quarantine life. Happy to see you both. :)
a few years back I flew into Kansai and pedaled to Osaka. From Osaka I took the ferry to Shin Moji on Kyushu. After that I followed the coast up and around to Fukuoka to spend a few days with family. Your video brought back a lot of happy memories of what it's like cycling around Japan. Thanks for sharing.
Great video! It's lovely to see you two share a passion for biking. As you may have already know, biking physically makes you happier. You two will be sharing many happy moments together with this common passion.
Thanks man! She's oddly shy at times, and extremely confident at other times haha. Yeah, the countryside scenery is very similar between Taiwan and Japan. Desperate lack of bubble tea shops here though and man am I missing my Taiwanese breakfast.. Will be in Taipei later in March for work btw if you'll be around ;)
I like the fact that when it gets dangerous, you ride blocker for your wife. I was really down on flat pedals(rode crank brothers for years)But recently I bought a set for $20 dollars on amazon and you can adjust the foot pegs now. They grab my feet so well they are almost as good as clip-less. This is way better then when I had toe clips and down tube shifters back in the 90's. Your wife has a good can do attitude, and she is probably more used to riding than your average American.
She apparently rode a pretty heavy old bike to school every day while growing up. All of the kids in the Vietnam countryside ride electric motor mopeds now lol
Wow, I usually ride a motorcycle...but as someone who has rode bicycles my whole life. I never realized how fun it was actually MTB riding, on paths and cool places...not only just around my city. Especially, as transportation around a city...at least not till recently. Oh and seeing you on Tomoko sensei's channel, brought me here...you have a new subscriber.
Great video, I just found you guys. I went to Japan two years ago but I could not bike. Hey tunnel was crazy and you did not have an emergency lights? ...cheers
That was a nice video. I enjoy watching you guys cycle though Japan. I also found that Japanese are in love with tunnels.. they are virtually everywhere. Sometimes it is possible to take the old" original" road which goes straight over the mountain pass. My strategy was to ride in the middle of the lane if the tunnel was too small for passing inside. For me that felt safer than being squeezed to the side, but I guess this all depends on the amount of traffic. Other than that cycle paths next to the river are nice.. usually flat and without too many stops. Too bad that there were too many barriers on yours.
200 km even on an unloaded road bike can be pretty grueling. I found that 80-140 km with a fully loaded touring bike (Panniers, dry bags, tent, sleeping bag, clothing..) that is designed for distance and much more compliant (read: comfortable) than a sport or racing geometry bicycle is good for a combination of distance and to also enjoy the view. Planning is paramount to a successful and enjoyable tour with minimal detours. (I also ran into that dead end on the Yodogawa bike path!) I sketch a route out with a map app, scout it on google earth down to the street view to see the condition of the roads, see if tunnels have passable shoulders and if not an alternate path, then I manually plot it with Locus Maps Pro. Be advised that things change very fast in Japan in regards to roadways and paths! Lights are critical at night and especially in tunnels. I would have put the lights on the gals bike as narrow road tires can easily be channeled and diverted to the side in the dark by unseen parallel road separations and cracks. The 'gambatte' spirit won't help you if you end up squished under a vehicles tires. I'm pretty sure you 'now' have proper lights for both bikes. I only got one flat riding from Naha, Okinawa up to Cape Soya, Hokkaido. And that was bottoming out on a pothole on a high speed decent north of Morioka, a beautiful little city btw. Japans roads are super clean and free of debris compared to the US. Consider slightly wider or puncture resistant tires as the minimal added weight is justified by lack of punctures, comfort and compliance. And mostly, enjoy cycling in Japan while you are there. It truly is a distinctive, cycling destination.
Thanks for all of the advice! I actually really like the feeling of a loaded bike since it carries it's momentum really well, but the climbs get a lot tougher for sure. I agree that we need to start being more prepared on our end and just winging won't always work out in the end. I still don't have much experience in the deep country / mountains other than driving to big mountain pass climbs with friends, so I've still got a lot to learn in that department, but definitely will have lights on both bikes for the tunnels. The reason there is no light on her bike is because we only had one light and it's on the back of my bike since I have the rear rack and was riding behind her. Hoping to invest in some better more specific touring equipment/bikes to be better prepared for some longer rides. There's still a lot I don't know since most of my experience is from racing, which is a completely different world.
Yep Cat 4 USCF from pre and college days myself! And yeah, even a lightened touring bike is fun to ride fast! I rode from Kyoto to Nara and back with only my trunk bag leaving all my pannier bags at the hostel and it was soo enjoyable! Oh, besides the momentum, you feel quite stable in tracking the bike but loose quick reflexive maneuverability. The hills are tough, but that's what the low gears are for! Japan has some really nice campsites and wonderful trails! Bicycle Touring is slightly less lycra so that you and Thuong can actually enter a restaurant for lunch! All of us started with little or no knowledge. All you really need is just a sense of adventure, a passion for life and to some, a love of Japan. Welcome aboard!
I’m new to your channel and really enjoy your videos. I like the cycling videos a lot as my husband and I ride in western Colorado. I like the food videos too and learning a little more about the Japanese culture through your videos. Thank you and for a variety of videos! And your wife is very sweet! Great seeing both of you together! 👍
Glad to hear you like the diversity 😀 Colorado is at the top of my list of places to go when I'm finally able to bring Thuong to the US, after visiting family in Michigan of course

Hi from Mongolia. I know you guys from your videos visiting bike stores mostly Giant. I get some ideas from videos like that. I run a bike company of my own. So I enjoy watching you. Cheers...
Good luck. It is fun training the kids. My 8yrs old already won 3rd place at the Philippine Shimano Dirt and Play for 8-10yrs old cath. He has been climbing with his road and MTB since 7. I'm sure you guys would have an athletic kids build for riding. Keep up the video, I enjoyed watching them.
great video !! i love journeys like this where you dont quite know whats going to happen and dont quite know where you are or what the correct path is. Wow ! Great info - Kyoto to Osaka bike path. Thanks
This is actually very nice, I watched the entire vid. I am very new to cycling (4 weeks) and I am very addicted; it has become my retreat.
Thanks! Cycling is the best drug ;)
Retreat indeed. I got hookded year ago. Feels like i wasted most of my life so far😆
better late than never 😉
124 miles damn that's a long way.
6:51 thats a great picture guys. Very cool video showcasing Japan.
I know this is an old video but you two seem happy together, that's nice to see.
Your wife was very patient haha I remembered taking my wife somewhere far and coming across unexpected barriers/ dead ends and taking all the blame -.-
She's usually down for anything as long as food is involved haha
+Two Wheel Cruise So much win man: being in Japan, with Asian woman, riding a bike & she enjoys it too. YA THE MAN:) so envy. Someday, someday...thanks for the video!

Wow! Great video! I hadn't seen you do this style video before.
Japan is really beautiful, i hope someday i can go there and do some cycling too. Great video.
Thanks! Definitely worth the trip if you can make it!
Can you be my tourist guide?
Victer Jr sorry, I don't live in Osaka.
What a wonderful location
Was a great ride..
Cool with nice music background!
Hello. I am the one who worked in tokyo as a wax carver, a public junior high teacher. I was in japan in 1993. I miss japan so much. I have my daily ride with my mtb after the quarantine life. Happy to see you both. :)
Hi, great ride. Loved you video. ThX!
Love this video. Makes me wanna ride in Japan. Thx for sharing
Thanks! 😀
You are so cool taking a video.. Nice one.. Keep it up
The 'minor' setback when that river path ended and still soldiered on...EPIC+RESPECT. Ride on, ride safe.
The river and the mountains look beautiful. Biking allows you to see and experience more.
I live in Japan, enjoyed watching this.
Glad to hear that you liked the video! ☺
Really cool cyclist! I am impressed today.
Thanks! :)
What a ride, nice view and nice weather.
Great day! 😀
Japan is so beautiful for bikers. Not so much danger for bikers too.😀
Found your video, because I want to ride across Japan... I'm happy I did, I have enjoyed many videos of you and your wife... regards!
Thanks! Have a good trip!
Keep make video like this.. .i love this one
Thanks! More longer cycling vlogs coming in July / August 😊

Great job you two...😀👍🚴♀️🚴♂️. The furthest in one day I've done, is 90 miles...😓🚴♂️
Thanks! You'll have to go for the 100 miler this year ;)
It's cool. I want to travel to country side of Japan by my bicycle!
Go for it! ;)
Awesome video. You have a great riding partner. Haha. New to cycling. I am planning to take a 200km ride soon. :)
Cheers and good luck!
sir ive been just starting watching ur vids during this quaratine. all can say is ur wife a keeper 😍
She's the best :)
Outstanding. These days I'm getting tired after 10 miles lol. At 67, I'm comfortable up to about 16 miles and then things start going south.
Cute video. 200km on a borrowed bike, in trainers.. wow that girl has a great attitude! That would be enough to break most people.
Thanks! And that's very true.. this trip pretty much confirmed to me that I had to marry her 😀😁
she is not american lol
LOL! 😂
@@TwoWheelCruise I think I remember she has a thailand name?
@iam kotaro Yes of course. Thuong is a vietnamese name and means "Unconditional love"
Really enjoyed this video!
Glad to hear it!
Wow! The bike lanes is awesome.
Wow stunning views, and you both are an awesome example and inspiration to other riders new or experienced. Great video.
Thanks! 🙂
It's a very nice journey!!
Thanks! 😀
2 years of your journey but still memorable.🤠
That's so cool seeing Wolverine kit in Japan. Well arm warmers at least.
I wear the kit in a few videos.. It's also hanging up in the background of the bike room in other videos as well :)
I live in southeast Michigan. You ride with the Wolverines, you probably know Hines dr. and park:)
Yep, I used to race with the Wolverines and am from Rochester ;)
probably a few people remember me... hopefully.. haha
i am amaze by the route you used
Pretty normal roads here :)
Great video! It's lovely to see you two share a passion for biking. As you may have already know, biking physically makes you happier. You two will be sharing many happy moments together with this common passion.
Thanks! Hopefully many more cycling adventures to come :)
Nice video! Can’t believe she’s still camera shy!! The countryside there isn’t too different to 台灣
Thanks man! She's oddly shy at times, and extremely confident at other times haha.

Awesome trip, guys! Recently discovered your channel. Keep it up! Best regards from Brazil!
Thanks! 😀
5:50, the reward for all your efforts! Please be careful in those tunnels.
We had no idea what awaited us after the tunnel and were very pleasantly surprised :)
Next time, definitely taking the alternative mountain road 😬

somehow, watching this video is very satisfying, especially at the countryside road, damn good view
Glad to hear that! 😀 We have a few other videos like this, but none quite as long (yet). And more good rides coming soon!
already subsribed, im expecting another ride with good view again at japan

MTB riding is a blast, both in the city and on the trail
Wow what a long ride I wish I could do that If I had a road bike in the future 😊😊
Definitely doable with a bit of training and determination! Road bike definitely helps.. A LOT haha ;)
Yamaguchi city area has many bike paths without barriers. Worth checking out if you head south one day.
Would love to go check it out one day
Nice story, edit, nice personality and scary-kowaii tunnel -- "hidari!, hidari!, hidariiiiiii!!!!"
Thanks! Yeah, definitely won't be taking that tunnel again.. Found out there's a nice climb over option instead
This channel has come a long way 😎
It sure has :)
Fantastic effort!
Great cycling adventure!
