THE WORST FENCE ON THE FARM! ( it’s gotta go!)

  • Improvement season - getting to work on a fence line that isn’t up to the job! Time now to take on some of the big jobs on the farm - maintaining and improving the farm boundaries and gateways. From doing it the hard and slow way, digging holes by hand which was taking a long time.. we are very thankful and happy to be upgrading
    In this video we are using the PROTECH Machinery P200S tractor mounted post driver, for the first time …which has been kindly lent to us by the team at PROTECH
    www.protechmachinery.co.uk/tr...
    This is going to revolutionise the way we manage and maintain the field boundaries here at Dale Farm! Hope you enjoy the video

    We have one of those post bashers. Decided to make our lives easier in our old age. We call the basher, the man killer. One tip, two strands of barb wire, placing one very near the stock fencing to stop naughty cattle pushing their noses in and pushing the stock fencing down. We also left our basher out for a winter, resulting in the control levers going very quickly rusty.

      @nickj5488 6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Wendy, we'll be putting it under cover for the winter 👍🏻
      On the other fences I've done two strands of bard but for this one I wanted to incorporate some electric fencing. The idea was that the bottom strand will stop them with a shock. I'm still learning so we'll have to see if it works 😊

    Nick should be proud it looks good, and should do the job you wanted from it. Though sheepI am sure carry a ladder on their backs! 😂 Storm babet floods took out a load of our fencing (well the stuff it carried along piled up against it and then forced it over) so we have a job on this backend, without a tractor mounted knocker to take the strain. So doubt will be as level as yours, we’ll just get folks to look the other way

    Great update video, the lamb profits hopefully will have took a little of the sting out of the cost of the fencing, I am sure it's not cheap. Good housekeeping in the way your posts are treated with the creosote and then firmly placed into the ground and professionally tensioned. I would say it's another string to Nicks bow with the quality of his fencing and could possibly set himself up for a little fence contracting/walling. If and a big if things got a little quiet on your own farm. Hope you are all keeping well.

Now, I know, like me, you’re scared of getting fat by owning a nice bumper and life being too easy (😜🙄🤣) but little tip that might help you……do your struts while you’ve got the tractor and bumper on site. It allows you to use the bumper to drive your footing post as far down in the ground as the rock will allow you to….full length where ground conditions allow!! Will give you an even better bracing support and save your shoulders!! Good knows the dreaded man killer is an evil piece of kit, however infrequently we have to use them 😭 hope your both well, keep up the great content 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
