Recovery has gone better than hoped for. I’m steadily gaining muscle as my body begins to adjust and find its balance once more. Going to make a few of these operator vids as they don’t overwhelm my diminished stamina. Survival videos should come out in the coming weeks as well. Hey Bob glad to see you doing well. You've taught me a thing or two about survival, I've been in operator for 30 years and I've dug a lot of ponds and lakes. For what it's worth I think you should probably build your slopes as you go, stockpiling your topsoil to put back on them later. I'm in your area from time to time if you need some help. FYI just used your tanning method on a snake skin. Thanks for all you do
This area is pure clay, but the next ponds will definitely need the top soil piled and reapplied. Had forgotten about this. Will be opening the property up by fall to camping and plan a big weekend for everyone to come out in October.

Be sure to leave your bucket dropped to the ground when it's at rest, it's less stress on the machine and safer. You don't want the bucket to slip down while Huck is under it.
Boy, is does THIS scene bring back some familiar feelings!
My grandfather ran a tree nursery, and raised one or two generations of truck, tractor, and landscaping aficionados who could probably gab your ear off about that machine and about everything you're trying here! *I'm* not the best example, but my dad, one or two uncles, and a cousin would certainly know how to pitch in to this project.

Ya know… watching your videos reminds me of the perspective of a child. What I mean to say is when I watched my dad performing any number of farm tasks I feel like I was looking at him from the perspective of your camera lens. In the case of machinery I didn’t watch to learn to operate machinery I watched to learn the process. Ultimately what I am trying to say is that a video like this is valuable. It’s valuable to people who want to understand the process. It may not be as valuable to people who just wanna be entertained. Ultimately you’re a teacher. Kind of seems like that’s your calling.

Oh my gosh, how I have prayed to see something like this - you being healthy and smiling and doing good. I will give prayers of gratitude now. Been a hard spring as my husband passed last month but I didn't forget to check and see if there was a video or update from you. I am so very happy for you and your family. A pro tip on turning that excavator, take the weight off of the ex but putting the bucket on the ground around 10 ft from you and pivot by swinging and tracking at the same time.. hope this helps, it's easier on the tracks if done with care lol

To say I'm happy for you is an understatement. You've been a strong influence on me. I wish I knew about you when I lived in floresville back in 2018. I'm back in the Rio Grande Valley trying to make the best of things. I now work for a farmer who does custom cotton harvesting. Prior to 2016 I worked for a construction company that ran John Deere equipment. I'm pretty fair at fixing stuff. If I could I'd love to help out sometime.

Pond building vids are great! I bet lots of us have never seen a pond being built, so we will be able to learn as we watch you go about it. Pretty much put up whatever you wish and we will watch it!

It sounds counterintuitive but sometimes ponds will stock themselves. It's a case of "build it and they will come". Wading birds will bring in eggs from frogs and fish in their crop and gullet. They regurgitate eggs into water when tanking up on water. It happened on my property after I dug a pond. We had bluegill the first year. The second year I found a small bait ball of 35-50 baby catfish one day while feeding fish food to the bluegill. 10 years down the road you can't tell that the pond was man made.
I bet it smelled heavenly with that rainfall!

Bob, GREAT to have you back. I live in San Antonio and to be able to watch Outdoor adventures in an area where you live for me is awesome. Avid camper from my younger days growing up in Ohio. Joined the service and they sent me to Texas. I stayed after my time. Love the area. Thanks for what you do, Damn happy that you are back. Hope our paths cross one day to be to shake your hand.
We’ll be opening the property up to camping in the fall. Likely an open weekend for fans in October as well.

Bob, loved the video. Can't wait to see the next one, and the finished pond. Glad you are doing well.
The sides of the finished pond need to be heavily sloped to a gentle incline. This will keep the sides from eroding between rains when the level is low and filling in the deeper areas. I could sow grass around my pond but it doesn't look like your soil is condusive to most grasses.
