  • In this video we visit lake Constance (Bodensee) to check out the town Uhldingen and the island of Mainau. Along the lake there are remains of prehistoric stilt dwellings. These dwellings look like something you would see in the Pacific but are actually found in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. We visit a museum that talks about the history of them here at lake Constance and has reconstructions of the stilt houses you can tour. We also take a ferry ride to the beautiful flower island of Mainau. This island is a large botanical garden and has restaurants, a palace, a church, playground, butterfly house, and a petting zoo. This island is definitely worth a visit in the summer to see all the beautiful flowers and landscaping. We lastly got to see the famous Zeppelin fly over the lake.

It's so cool you visited this. I'm German and I've been to the stilted village 2 times or maybe 3 times, I don't know and also been on Mainau once. Interesting story on why Island Mainau is so good as a botanical garden: In central europe, there's a cold period in the spring, after it gets warm, so many plants are evolved to weather that short frost, but more exotic plants die because they emerge from their winter slumber at the first sign of warmth and the freeze to death during the short frost period. But being in a lake, the ground of Island Mainau is buffered by the water, which stores the cold, so they never get the warm period ahead of the frost period in spring. Therefore, the plants there only emerge when the summer is truly coming.

Cool! They are really cool. We also saw a really neat one at the Waldwipfelweg here in Germany. Now we keep the ball in the purse in case we happen across another one on our travels.

Your videos are great! I love how you’re making the most of your time in Germany. I’ve been to Germany and surrounding countries many times at Christmas, but your videos are super helpful for places to visit at other times of the year, too.

Another nice botanical garden I know by a personal visit: Planten un Blomen in Hamburg. Visit in summer if you want to visit a water light organ concert. If you are in Hamburg, make sure to visit the Miniatur Wunderland and plan in much time, as the amount of funny detail is insane.
Prehistoric and not too far away from Hamburg is the Visbeker Bräutigam, a megalithic tomb. The entire group with Brautwagen and Heidenopfertisch is very impressive, you should need two or three hours.
Visit the Archäologischer Park Xanten as a daytrip. Eat at the Roman restaurant. Visit the Römervilla Ahrweiler in two or three hours.

@@trailblazinpeppers If you need more places mainly from the North, via the West, to the Southwest, just ask, as I am glad to help. The place where you live is not too far away from two towns which look amazing according to many videos: Bamberg and Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Landshut and Schwäbisch Hall also seem to be pretty. Personal experience: If you should drive on the A7 in late spring or summer and come along the exit to Bad Brückenau, take a short visit to the interior of the Lindenstumpf.

@@trailblazinpeppers Yes, from 5 years ( by myself) almost every day at the seaside resort. In the winters at that time you could still skate in the harbor ⛸ (long ago). The nature reserve next to the pile dwellings was our playground. The lake used to freeze over completely about every 70 years, before climate change, but unfortunately I never got to experience that. There were festivals on the lake, sleds and cars drove over it. The millions of water birds 🦢🦆had to be rescued and fed by the Bundeswehr with airplanes!

@@trailblazinpeppers It was a great place, i life 30km away, but know its full with migrants, they kill girls, now they start rape girls in the day. Communism with green madness is being spread here right now. The Bismarc monument is now being redecorated, they are badmouthing the colonial era. They even tell us lies about their own history in school. Our democrats are huge liar like the US democrats, its the same bullshit.
Germany and europa is being driven against the wall according to US plans. And America destabilizes the next region, so that Japan and China sink into the same chaos as Europe and Russia. The US Senate has approved 10 billion dollars for the military armament of Taiwan and 50 billion for Ukraine. They are doing the same thing in Taiwan-Japan-China like they did in Europe with Russia.

These aren't actual bronze age houses, they're replicas based on archeological findings. The houses themselves were built beginning in the 1920s (and since then repeatedly rebuilt, built out, refurbished, etc)
