      I saw a comment from someone who used 2 Zerowater pitchers, allows the filter on pitcher #1 to reach 18-30, then puts the filter from pitcher #2 (which has been used to "refilter" water that went through pitcher #1 first) into pitcher #1. He said that meant he uses far fewer filters per year this way! That is what I am going to do - 20 cup Zerowater pitcher on my kitchen counter, then that filtered water will go into the reservoir of a 10-cup Zerowater filter in my fridge (I love COLD water, I live in quite a hot climate).
      My tap water shows about 315 ppm on the meter, I have never used it to drink here, but even the supposed spring water I buy for almost $1 a gallon shows 174 ppm! And after filtering the tap water, it is 0, just as the advertising says. Amazing.

      Exactly. I bought a Brita pitcher when it was on sale for like 10$. And since you can get like 6 Brita filters for like $4.50 a piece, I filter my water through Brita filter first, then filter it again through my expensive zerowater filters. Makes it last longer AND you get all that chloroform and fluoride out of your water.

    If water smells like fish, it's probably because you kept the water in direct sun, and because you don't clean the container once a week. Even bottle water can develop bacteria if you left it in the sun after opening it once. Those filters are not vacuum sealed so it's possible to get some bacteria there sooner or later if you don't wash the container.

    Been using a zero water 23 cup dispenser in my fridge for years. They're great, however yes... the fishy smell/taste is a thing. My tap water reads about 209ppm tds on the meter, and after about 3 months or so, I start doing the sniff test when pouring a glass. It all depends on how your tap water is treated, not sure what chemicals it takes, but after they build up in the filter for a while it's all fishy coming out. More odor than taste for a few days, then you can start tasting it. Thats when I change filters, usually around 30ppm on the meter. If I changed the filter at 006 like zero water recommends, I probably would be swapping out perfectly good filters every two weeks. I'll take 20ppm over 200 any day of the week.

    Where I live, Coachella valley/Palm Springs area of southern CA, our tap water comes out basically white. If I got a glass of tap water, I'd have to let it sit a full minute for the water to settle and become clear. I purchased the Zero Water to update my Brita as I've always believed our city water to be crap. Upon buying the Zero Water and getting the TDS reader, I wanted to check some different water sources I have available at home currently. My Great Value purified bottle water came out to 13 TDS, not bad; my Brita bring on its last leg and end of its filter life came out to 128 TDS, having seen some readings of other people testing their Brita's I still thought that was pretty good; then I checked my tap water thinking I was going to get 5-600 TDS, I put the TDS reader in and was shocked, to say the least, to see that it only read 123 TDS, less than the Brita even. What?! Well, I don't know why the water is white initially but, at least when it comes to TDS specifically, it's really not bad at all. Still, I'll happily start and continue using my new Zero Water and definitely happy to get rid of my failed Brita. Thanks for a great video. Hopefully it helps to educate the sheeple. 🐑

    • @Dimeinurear
      @Dimeinurear 2 года назад +3

      The whiteness may be just simple air bubbles. If nothing remains on the bottom of the water when it's done, and the whiteness seems to go *up,* then I think it's just air has gotten into the system somewhere. I'm no expert, so please don't take my word for it, but that may mean a pipe has a leak somewhere.

    • @opcpixie
      @opcpixie 2 года назад +1

      @@Dimeinurear I know it's not a pipe, only because that statement is true for every place that I've used/gotten water from in the Coachella Valley. When pulling from a water source hooked up to the local, multi-city, public water district, anyway. There's nothing visual, such as floaters or other deposits, left in the water once it becomes clear. An entire glass gradually changes from white to clear after about a minute, minute and a half. That's for an average 12oz tumbler type glass but as it (whatever 'it' is in there) dissipates, it doesn't noticeably rise like air bubbles would. It seems to just fade away. Hornet, now that I think about it I can't take the air bubbles theory of the table just yet. Although it looks as if the white cloudiness just dissipates, I've noted many times that it always starts from the bottom, working its way upward. Perhaps the particular public water system the valley installed introduces air into the water at the facility. (Now you got my wheels turning...) Where kind of isolated out here. I wouldn't doubt that the water district intentionally introduces air out of necessity so that there's enough water pressure to get the water to the more isolated residential customs (like those in Sky Valley) but, being that I'm in the city, it appears so white because I'm closer to the source of air which still has a good kick behind it as it hasn't lost its steam while traveling yet. Hmmm, man, for 20 years the water being white has always bothered me and made me wary then you come along and bam. I feel like together we're Einstein our something, haha, or, well, you know what I mean. Thanks for that. 😁

    I have one of these. I use it to clean the water from the tap that I use in my humidifier. I have a lot of calcium in my tap water and it makes a mess out of the humidifier after 3 months. So I bought this. It works absolutely great for this purpose. No calcium buildup in my humidifier. But after 4 weeks or so the filter builds up a bio load. The water takes on nasty smells. And the humidifier pumps that nasty smell out into the room. I have to add bleach to the water then to kill the bacteria to get rid of the smell. No way would I drink that water.
    I had it tested in a lab. Turns out it is E coli bacteria. I changed out the filter with a new one. Will see if it happens again. This was the filter that came inside the pitcher when bought brand new. I also cleaned the entire pitcher with bleach before I opened the new filter for use.
    To prevent any spread of E coli from the previous filter to the new one.
    It is strange. The odor it made. I thought it smelled like dog urine. My wife said like a drowned rat. My kids said it was fishy smell.
    It was very strong. There is no doubt if this happens that you have a bad odor.

    The fish smell comes from heat and sunlight exposure to the filter. You can do an easy test by leaving it in direct sunlight and see the result. Simply keep it away from sunlight and ensure it doesn't get exposed to high temps. The anion exchange resin releases trimethylamine, which is the fish smell people are experiencing.

    Thanks for this, I suffer from quite a few health issues including problems with my kidneys and bladder. After doing some research it turns out these issues are (among other things) caused by calcification and a lot of it could be from tap water especially in hard water areas. Upon finding this out a lot of things started to make sense and so I'm now in the market for a water filter!
    I was looking at the Brita systems and being in the UK myself it seems to be the top selling brand. I looked for reviews on RUclips and came across one from the US that reviewed among others Brita and Zero Water. The thing that stood out to me is that all the filter systems produced almost the same TDS (some even more) than unfiltered water except Zero Water that produced ZERO!
    I immediately looked on Amazon to see if it and extra filters were available in the UK and thankfully they are so I then went on to RUclips again to look for reviews on Zero Water expecting to find a bunch of reviews from the US but to my surprise YOURS was the first one I came across and has helped me make my decision to purchase one. I think I'll need to replace the filter sooner than you however being on the South coast but at least I know they are available here!

    I've had a Zerowater pitcher for 6 months. On the positive side, when using this filter I don't have to descale my tea kettle at all. It removes all mineral particles. However, I have gone through 4 filters in 6 months. I suppose how fast you go through filters depends on what the water you put in it is like, but the city water supply I'm on is not that bad. Other filter brands I've used have lasted far longer. With one of the filters, the pitcher started smelling like fish after 3 weeks. I'm not sure why, the other filter changes did not smell of fish. I am subscribed to ConsumerLabs, and their review of ZeroWater says that their tests detected a massive amount of microplastics in the filtered water. I don't know if that test was representative of all ZeroWater filters, but it did not make me happy. I bought a box of six filters with the pitchers. As soon as I go through those, I'm getting another type of water pitcher.

    I know you made this video a while back but I hope this is still relevant. Your tap water coming in at around 50 or 60 TDS to start with plays a Massive part in the fact that your filter is still going strong after 3 months. I, on the other hand have horrible tap water here. My tap water comes in at between 300 to 330 TDS to start out. And my ZeroWater filters only last me around 3 weeks before the meter shows 6 and I'm forced to change so the water doesn't taste bad again. The facts are that everyone's tap water is different. Even ZeroWater states this on their inner packaging. In my area, I am only expected to get about 15 gallons of clean water out of 1 filter before having to change it and that estimate from ZeroWater seems pretty spot on.
    So of course your filter is still going strong after 3 months of daily usage. It says exactly that on the ZeroWater inner packaging! You're expected to get 40+ gallons of filtration from your filter based on their estimates.
    That being said, I LOVE my ZeroWater filter but I seriously hate how expensive the replacement filters are.

      Yeah but there is one Zero Water jug that does not filter out impurities and uses a smaller filter to weed out the taste of treated chlorinated water and should not be named Zero Water as this can be deceptive advertising by the brand of Zero Water. And Ivwould give them a big fat zero on the name being a Product's Branding as a badge and not the true type you and I use. This other Zero Water Product could kill us. Or at least damage our good bacteria in our gut by unintentional and misleading information in the product's name discribing what it is, but not truely what it does. I always read what product do as the product name can be misleading but the danger exists for those that do not research product info and to the ignorant consumer, where common sence is uncommon, this misconception can be a serious problem. And I agree with Za Toby's answer that if you work out alot that our bodies depleat minerals not found in Zero Water that has the same quality as distilled water. I use a powdered drink mix that I add to my filtered Zero Water that has both B vitamins and minerals to promote rehydration, and replace residual amounts of sodium loss found in sport drinks.

    Based on this, I do not think that it lasting you three months in general is a good indicator of how good the filter is.
    I think a better indicator would be if it’s lasting as long as expected.

I am very conflicted now because zerowater is obviously the best at taking out contaminants, but then becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, etc. I changed my filter and omg it smelled horrible! It is start at 000 but with water in the 600's I cannot afford to change filters constantly, and I don't want to do all the tricks to make your filter last longer. I have enough on my plate. What do I do, boil the water first, to kill any bacteria that might be in the tap water, and then put it through zerowater? Yikes that is a lot of work for clean water. I have been watching a lot of videos on the other brands and they have a hard time with water in the 200's...so how are are they going to help me? I wonder if the "fishy smell/taste from the zerowater may be from bacteria growing - as I said the filter smelled so bad I felt sick that I was drinking water that water sloshing around that exterior of the filter. I kept mine IN the fridge and I mixed it with gatoraide so I never noticed a fishy taste. But I think ANY water that is NOT in the fridge will smell bad eventually. But right now my pitcher along with 2 new filters is sitting. I am exhausted reading and watching videos about this. I am very confused right now. Evidently most tap water has some bacteria in it, but is usually is harmless. Some of the additives are to keep the bacteria, etc, at bay. But since they are removed by the zerowater filter, it is creating a potential larger problem. Thoughts???

I still have it today (March 2024) and go through about 4 filters a year with tap water testing out as low as 98 and as high as 140 PPM. Never used anything else, never will. We mainly use this for our Kurig. After 6 years of use on the same Kurig Elite I had to finally descale it. But this was mainly from not testing the ZW tank regularly and keeping on top of the filter. We are considering replacing it with a new one (52 Cup Tank) with a 2 filter subscription every 3 or 4 months. I take really good care of our tank with regular cleaning on the monthly basis. Mine started smelling like fish after about 3-4 months, the life of the filter, this is how I know how to change it. For it lasting so long in-between changes with my water from tap being around 20p unresolved solids I would say it's an amazing filter yall

    I used to buy water from a Walmart reverse osmosis machine (Primo Water is the name of the brand) and while the water tastes really good (Well, like nothing really) after buying my ZeroWater just to have clean water when I run out of the RO water... I found out that the Primo RO water had 13 TDS while they tell you to replace the ZeroWater filter when it starts getting over 6 lol. So I'm thinking Walmart and some grocery stores cannot be trusted to maintain their RO units...

      An RO system's proper operating TDS range is 0-50ppm. Average drinking or spring water ranges from 50-150.

    I've been using ZW filters for nearly 10 years now and have mostly positive experience. But what the guy is saying re: their lifespan is simply not true (it cannot be, unless his daily usage is very negligible OR water is pre-filtered by some other filtering systems OR it's surprisingly clean in the first place before getting into ZW filter). In my municipality the TDS reading renders 140ppm (pretty common for the rest of North America). With average daily use of approx 15-20 litters, it gets from 0 (zero) ppm to 5-6ppm in about 3 weeks and starts tasting little acidic (in fact I can sense it when it gets to 2-3ppm so can easily do even without the TDS meter).
    Hope this sets more realistic expectations...

    • @HutchinsonJC
      @HutchinsonJC 2 месяца назад

      The guy absolutely did tell you that his water is 59 tds to start with and it kinda goes without saying that everyone's water source is different and that different water sources are going to have different effects on the filter's life.
      If your water is 140 then it's a bit more than twice the content to have to filter than the guy in this video has in his water.

    I am amazed you get reverse osmosis quality without the wasted water. Mountain spring water 65ppm tds. Tap local H²0 district=365ppm tds.
    Filtered through Zero water = 0ppm tds. You can even add beneficial mineral electrolytes and call it Brawndo !

    Before you fill it up run your tap for 20 to 30 seconds. Your tap water is so much worse without waiting. Test it with the zero tester. Huge difference. Test soon as you turn tap on then another 30 seconds after continual running water

    I bought a zero pitcher for a new coffee maker to replace one that quit working due to mineral buildup. My tap water measured 260-270 something. Since the zero filters are so expensive i bought a brita dispenser to do a prefilter before the zero to help it last longer. Oddly tho, i add a dash of redmond sea salt to each cup of coffee i make.
    Thats all i use the filters for, i use tap water for drinking and cooking so im still getting my minerals.

    The mineral issue is not about the water not providing enough minerals for the body, the concern is it becomes too solvent for the body.
    Water is a solvent, the less minerals already dissolved in it, the more solvent it becomes. Very pure water (distilled/de ionised) is much more corrosive than normal water. I don't know how close zerowater is to this (I'm not sure its just about TDS), but that's where the mineral concerns come from, not that you don't get the minerals you need from it, as you say they can be had elsewhere.

    • @LivingWellTV

      The only issue I have with all these claims is that not one has been substantiated with an actual study. All of it is based on speculation and recommendations. The only study I found was from 1913 and this was later refuted by Nocht and Winkler who performed similar experiments and failed to show any bad effects.

    I have the zero filter, and the first cartridge didn't last that long. More than two weeks but not 3 months. We kept it on the counter and used straight tap water. Suddenly it smelled like am aquarium. I researched it, and checked the TDS, it was slightly over .06. Put in a new cartridge, we keep it In The fridge and use the water dispenser in the fridge which jas a cheap filter, and we haven't changed this since last July and it still measures 0.0, smells and tastes great. So the 1st one didn't last nearly as long as it should have, and the 2nd one has lasted way longer than it should.

    • @janasher4940
      @janasher4940 Год назад

      I have read that using a cheap filter first and then putting that water into the Zero makes the filters last twice as long. For some reason, that first cheap filter is taking out the bacteria that normally clogs up the Zero and creates bad smells.

    You might like this.. use carbonated water to make tea or coffee, if you want to drink it plain give it three minute boil let it cool and drink it, try also to cook oats and lentils.
    Choose a brand with low calcium.
    Has same effect and taste as distilled. Just discovered it digestion seems very cool much better than spring and tap water.
