- This is mostly for my own benefit, being Russian and quite frankly fed up with having to use romanisation to sing along. However, if anyone else is like me, or is learning Russian, or what have you, enjoy!
(And for the benefit of the rest of you, to atone for my selfishness, the romanisation and English translation.)

I remember hearing this a long time ago, but I never knew it was Russian. Fast forward some years later and I'm actually studying Russian and am basically in love with this song.

I've been learning a whole new way to appreciate this song since I started studying Russian. I occasionally come back to it and get happy because I can recognise more grammar and vocabulary every time :) Русский язык очень красивый

Exaclty the same for me. I listened to this song and couldn’t understand it. I later studied Russian and came across the song again and I’m like hold on why can I understand this 😂

I'm glad that i understand russian. When i watched the first episodes, i thought that i heard this in russian. :D The meaning, what this song tells is the story of the brothers. It's sad.

Russian Version is so cool! It's more heartbreaking than the english version... I was watching the first 20 episodes of Fullmetal Alchemist ( English dub ) recently and in one of the scenes I could here the instrumental starting and I thought to myself; "Can you imagine if the song was in russian?" ( I was listening to it all day long the day before ) and then lyrics start to play and IT'S THE RUSSIAN VERSION!!! When I told my friend she was like,
" We should REALLY find a priest to exorcize you."

i wish i can't speak russian or read... cause this song reminds me my mother and when i lost her that pain, also remind me her face and her smile... even now if i think if i able trade with the god for my mother life. without hesitation i will accept and sacriface my life for my mother! without even though a sec!

Спасибо!! Я так плакала когда вспомнила то что происходили с Al и Ed, как будто все событие из FMAB, показывали в моей голове за всю эту 4 минута. Песня на самом деле трогательная. Сколько лет прошло, сколько аниме я посмотрела, но FMAB все равно было на первом месте, что и аниме классное, что и все песни (ED, OP и OST) от туда.
Thank you for this video! I learning Russia, so when I hear this song and remember what is going on in the anime, I just can’t stop crying..! How much time has passed, FMAB is always my best of best anime!!
The ending was so sad. Ed sacrificed his life so that his brother can finally live the life he was supposed to. But he cannot even make sure that Al is alive in the Alchemist world. The thought "Did I sacrifice my life for nothing" will always haunt him in the back of his mind. This is more scary than perma death.

Brotherhood may follow the manga but both versions are equally good in my opinion.

@@AnyaKandybka хаха! Да немножко сложно английсками словами... просто не идет! Русский такой богатый язык. Мне кажется что это почти невозможно точно вырязить глубости русскые слова. Мне даже стыдно что не могу совершенно владеть его.

Мне кажется это диалог между Эдвардом и Алом. Эдвард винит себя из-за того, что из-за отдачи во время трансфигурации, для того чтобы вернуть маму его брат потерял тело и чуть не умер. Ал же отвечает, что нисколько не винит старшего брата
The letters a,e and o are the same but the letter e pronounce “ie"....the letters k,m, and t are the same.....the letter h pronounce like the “n"

I don't know this language at all and I have no issue with how its written here. I guess most are used to the Romanization of languages esp dealing with a language that's not theirs. theres many languages like german and greek besides the Slavic languages that have letters or symbols that those outside the language would have no idea how its pronounced. some look backwards etc so it was interesting to try to hear and match up what was on screen.

When you talking about "Russian version", you're talking about the vocal. Actually, Michiru Ohshima, the composer of this song, is a Japanese.

I want to see Russian lyrics in romanized text.
Already done for English speaking people. Yet, I'm am still a little put off by the fact that only the "letters" not the actual pronunciation is reflected. Example: того romanized in "togo" is actually pronounced "tavo" (with an opened "a" like in "Apple", not "tAble"; and "g" is here pronounced "v"; don't ask me why... :))) => ruclips.net/video/RpMHhrSrPOI/видео.html Many "o" are pronounced "a" and not "o" in standard Russian.

I was just a trend at the time, GitS SAC(2 seasons and movie) is also have 3 opening songs with mostly russian lyrics.
It's not an opening, it's an insert song.
And apparently Toei was recording orchestral part of the soundtrack in Moscow and they found it easier to get Russian choir to record the song as well rather than finding a Japanese counterpart, studio and orchestra for the one song.
I could sing this but it would sound Terrible. I can speak Russian, English is a second language

Is it just me or does Cyrillic look a lot like Greek?
It does a little but you have to remember that it was two Greek monks/priests who invented the script to fit Slavonic languages in the region and Russian. So, presumably, they altered their own familiar letters. This is especially apparent with letters like Γ and Π. The B making a "v" sound is also from the Greek where it makes the same.
Yeah, both Latin and Cyrillic scripts are derived form Greek, but Cyrillic preserved more letters. Also it has way more letters in general, so I guess it helped.
