Absolutely nailed this collection. For the price of 1 Submariner, you get a way more interesting collection. As for price, you could find the BB58 and SBGM221 each for $3k and the Speedy would be closer to $5k. Add the Casio and you are a little over $11k. Definitely worth stretching the budget an extra $1000 to fit in the Speedy.
The SBGM221 has been on my wishlist for a really long time. That dial colour is absolutely stunning and it's way more affordable than the other Grand Seikos. What a beauty! Kudos for creating a great collection!!!
Amazing choices, that Grand Seiko is killer as a choice. One of the most beautiful I have seen. I would personally go for the Oris Aquis Cal 400 over the BB58, adds a lot of color. Honestly, I can appreciate larger collections, theres always variety for you. I am currently posted away from home for several months and have 5 watches with me. I miss the larger collection!
Love the proposed 3+1 collection. Like Max, I’ll probably never get down to only 4 watches, but if I did I think these 4 watches would be versatile and bring me joy. Well done.
I am currently down to a 3 + 1 Collection: 1. Seamaster Diver 300m (previous model) 2. Rolex Explorer 214270 (39mm) 3. JLC Master Moon + a Gshock, dont remember the Reference. Pretty happy with the Collection Right now 🎉
Fantastic collection. Love that all the watches are strap monsters as well so you can continuously change it up. The SBGM221 might be the best bang for the buck watch i've come across.
Almost exactly my 3 grail set: 1. BB58 2. Speedmaster FOIS 3. GS GMT 4th, either the gshock you shared or a Seiko 5 in blue with white accents. Perfect set.
This is right up my and many others alleys. 10k is reasonable for a minimal but quality collection that actually gets mileage on all watches. Very good selections up and down the list.
That Speedmaster is such a gorgeous left field choice. Who needs the Speedmaster '57! Using the GMT as your dress watch is clever too. The regular Seikos I've worn measure fairly thick but wear thinner than the numbers suggest.
1. Chronograph : Speedmaster Pro cal. 1861 2. Dresswatch : Vacheron Constantin 6352 YG cal. 1003 3. Diver / Beater : Crepas Plongeur cal. 2824-2 + Historical watch : Omega CK 2292 HS/8 cal. 30T2 + Nerd Watch : Omega Speedmaster 125th cal. 1041 P.S. Love your videos! P.P.S. Love the Speedmaster Broad Arrow on that bracelet! P.P.P.S. If the ultra thin Vacheron is not in the sub 10k budget any more - the CK 2292 could be also a nice dress watch and a great conversation starter.
I'm also trying to stick to a 3+1 watch. My daily beater is my Seiko Diver SPB143. My GMT is GS SBGN005 which is suitable for both casual and work. My dress watch is currently Ball Engineer Pioneer but looking to get a GS Spring drive watch after I get my chronograph. Yes, I don't have a chronograph. So saving up now :D Speedy pro seems like a good option
Absolutely agree with you with this 3+1 Watch collection, actually this is just like my current collection, i have blackbay 58 in navy blue, GS SBGM221, instead of speedmaster i have Reverso claasic small second with duo face ( although really want speedmaster as my next purchase😂), also G shock GWB5600, i still new in watch world and really love your video
Pretty happy with my duo, which I feel gives a balance of timeless design and rugged build in one and a contemporary avant garde appeal in the other - Rolex OP41 in black -Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton Thoughts on this pair?
I agree with two out of three, BB58 is a no brainer that is not only functional but draws on a classic, the Speedy again, no need to go any further. The GS? I'm not quite so sure as I've only tried a few of then but not purchased. An alternative would be the Omega Constellation Globemaster teal dial on dark blue leather strap that is hugely underrated and also the first METAS certified Omega model. The +1, I totally agree, my 5610 was with me during a difficult 2021 where a few unplanned surgeries were required so I have a bond with that watch. This one will never be sold while I can draw breath as it's a special watch to me.
My 3+1 would be the Baltic Aquascaphe GMT, Seiko Alpinist, and a Grand Seiko spring drive elegance plus the G Shock 5600 as a beater. Would be a bit under $10k all in. I have all except the GS - it’s next on the list!
Max check out the Citizen NB1060. I've seen it discussed on a couple of forums and videos because of its absolutely stunning dial. I think you'd do a good review on it.
I have a very similar "3 watch" collection. I have a Grand Seiko 29mm dress watch that is feminine but not girlie. The BB58 Blue. I did go Rolex money for my Explorer, but if I hadn't... there are tons of great field watches to choose from. I impulse bought a Casi-Oak for $100 and regret nothing. It looks great and I don't worry someone will rob me or that I'll break it
Max, loved BB58 and speedy choices! I didn’t like the GMT so much, maybe because I love Pepsi GMT so much!! By the way, as curiosity, aren’t the strap parts placed oppositely in your agrave Seiko? I am used to see the holes part at 6H…
This was cool and think the 3+1 collection is something i would like to go for when i really know what i like (still trying out stuff) =) But if i was to buy a 3+1 collection today i went with a cheaper setup for my kind of budget, the Hamilton khaki field automatic 42mm , CERTINA DS Action Day-Date Powermatic 80 , then Dan Henry 1972 Maverick black chronograph and then more or less any G-shock that looks cool and with solar. =)
So, A Tudor BB, an Omega Speedy, an older Grand Seiko GMT and a G-Shock! I am nearly with you - I have a Tudor BB GMT, an Omega Seamaster, and 4 G-Shocks (all solar powered). You have nailed this collection and not a Rolex in sight! However, I could not part with watches that hold sentimental value, or my Hamiltons. So, a 10 watch collection is more likely for me. Great video though.
My 4 watch collection i want to build is a bit different because its mostly by the look not the occasion or function. 1- grand seiko sbgw231 2- kurono tokyo 34mm special project 3- ming 1709 copper dial or blue 4-baltic gmt or diver watch since they have vintage aesthetic. 5- honorable mention nomos metro because i like the lugs look beeter than tangente.
I would do either the Omega Aqua terra or the IWC mark xx as daily watch, anordain as the dress watch, universal geneve white shadow as vintage / talking piece, and a G shock as the daily beater. You could even squeeze in the bulova lunar pilot as the chrono, and yes it has been to the moon!
Can anyone help me find a good ‘new’ style bracelet for that broad hand Speedmaster? I don’t like the bezel or hands on the new Speedmaster and I don’t like the bracelet on the broad hand. But together? Perfect.
My current 3+1, at under $4000 spent: Diver: Seiko SPB149 Chrono: Speedmaster Reduced Daily: Sinn 556a RS Beater / fitness: Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic With more money, I'd have went: SPB149 -> SLA039 Speedy Reduced -> First Omega in Space Sinn 556a RS -> IWC Mark XV or XX If you don't wear smartwatches, a GShock DW5600 could be swapped for the Galaxy Watch. For me, a GMT is used when traveling. For the type of traveling I'm doing at this stage in my life, backpacking & hostels, a low-value beater with dual time function (GShock, Timex Q GMT, smartwatch) is more appropriate than something like a Grand Seiko.
Great choices! I however would have chosen the 3570.50 normal hesalite moonwatch....that is very close to the vintage moonwatch. I would also be tempted to choose a Cartier as a dress watch. An everyday beater is not necessarily quartz, you could choose some b brand with a miyota automatic for under 150 dollars. These calibers are extremely durable.
@@WatchCrunchOfficial Your GS choice was spot on.....The tank is nice, but a lot of folks will not gravitate to it because it may be a little too out there for them.
I think the idea behind this collection is great but most of us are sick in head and have way more in the watch box but will put our own large collections into these fictitious micro collections for fun as well lol
I'd go Bond era 2254.50 as the diver, then JLC ultra thin 34mm vintage dress watch and maybe a nomos 36mm club campus / IWC Mark as an every day... oh an G shock as the 4th obviously 😇
Perfect! SBGM221 on my wishlist for long and speedy as well. For dive I have TAG's Aquaracer (as a present from dad so will keep it), now only decision who goes first GS or Speedy. And i've Casioak)
Let me try this from my current collection? 1) Omega Speedmaster racing reverse panda 2) one of my 6 digit GMT's - either the Rootbeer or the Batman - that will take some thought, and 3) either my Reverso or my Grand Seiko SBGW235. This is harder than it looks!
I’ve managed to downsize to 4 but don’t know for how long… I’m constantly dreaming of pieces I wanna try on. I’m now down to Navitimer, Reverso Duodace, Sub 124060, Grand Seiko sbgw231
Boy get the speedmaster when you have the G-Shock I personally have a quartz calligraph I wear at work. I saved my mechanical watches for my regular life. Being a contractor I still treat my watches as the same as every tool I use, purpose built for my lifestyle
Here is mine. Marathon CSAR. Marathon JDD. ORIS Depth Gauge and possibly the Damasko DC86. The beater. Well I have three of those and they are quartz. The Damasko is just bad ass
Not a Chronograph fan. I'd go with a more "everyday" watch that might even look better with some visible age (Sinn 556 or Omega Railmaster/Aqua Terra). But it's all fantasy for this public school teacher, as Seiko 5s and a used Oris D65 make up my collection now and that Sinn is my grail watch.
Nice collection. All 4 watches are special. Maybe lacks a punch. Grand Seiko is original and the dial is cream color. BB and Speedmaster both black… would have gone for a more exotic choice instead of the BB
Since pre-owned is considered, the Omega SMP is about the same price as the BB58. I wanted a 3+1 collection but ended up with a 5+1... for now its 1 in 1 out.
I struck out on your build approach. Not a big fan of chronos. Also struggle with folks dropping big $s on dive/tool watches when you can get a King Turtle for < $1K. Unless you are getting a diver (e.g., Submariner) as your one watch. Diver - Seiko King Turtle Special Edition Chrono - GMT - Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium Otherwise went with two Cartiers for dress (Tank Must XL) and GADA (Santos de Cartier Large Grey) categories.
Interesting. I have a similar collection. Dress/formal: GS SBGM235 GMT: Rolex Batman Diver: Tudor BB heritage (red bezel) Beater: g-shock/Seiko PADI Chrono: IWC Portuguese
I feel like you should have subbed out quartz for a dress piece. I have the blue omega SMP 300M, green iwc pilots chronograph 41 on leather strap, and the Tudor bb pro... and 3 casioaks. But I really think the watch that completes my sea/air/land/elegant-dress (SEALED) collection isn't the quartz but a dress piece. I'd choose the longines master collection moonphase for value-for-money, but if money wasn't an issue then I'd pay out for a JLC master control ultra thin moonphase.
@@WatchCrunchOfficial fair, it was a dressy piece. I always look to gmts as a tool piece, something about a dressy gmt makes it less true towards proper exploration tool use. Still a great piece tho!
i would have chosen an oris sixty five diver (2k), a tudor chrono (5k) and then as GMT the seiko highlighted in the video or a tudor GMT (3k) or a Nomos Tangomat
id personally say the 3 in 1 should be: dress watch, chrono and diver over having a gmt, not many people have a case use for it, and you add an oddities for the 4th one, maybe its a weird casio or maybe its something just really fun and kind of a joke as a last piece!
I got like 15 watches and they all combined don't even hit $5K mark. Some bad boys are: Diver + GMT aka beater: Mido Ocean Star GMT. GMT aka travel/casual: Glycine Airman. Dress/casual (I don't care for chronos): Certina DS-1 Himalaya Edition. Wild Card (don't really have a soft spot for Casio or quartz): Orient Retro Future Camera. My limit for a watch is under $2K anyway, so that I wouldn't feel too flaky if I'm mugged and not be afraid of wear and tear ))
I actually have a 3+1 collection. A seiko SPB143… which is a diver. A Oris Divers 65… which is euh a diver. A Tudor BB58… also a diver 😅 + A seiko mod based on a SKX171… which happen to be a diver😂
My list reads the following: Diver - Sinn U50 Tegimented ($2630) Chronograph - Sinn 144 St DIAPAL ($3500) GMT - Grand Seiko SBGM221 ($4600) +1 - Casio G-SHOCK GBD-200UU-1ER ($180) Total - $10,910 (About $1000 over budget) I agree with two of Max's picks; for others, I am evidently a Sinn fanboy.
Pelagos 39 (Black) Speedmaster Racing Panda (White) FC Worldtimer (Blue) + CasiOak (Gray) This would be a modern killer 3+1. But budget may be around 15k😅.
Got my own 3 + 1 collection albeit a bit more pricey. 1. Breitling Navitimer (2022 reverse panda) 2. Grand Seiko SBG221 3. Longines Legend Diver and a DW5600 GSHOCK as my beater

Thanks! Yeah the budget really depends on finding good deals 😉
I'm seeing quite a few broad arrow speedys in good condition around $2800 on Chrono24. I think you could do this entire collection under $9k.
What website are you seeing the sbgm221 at 3k?
@@tylerlittle7818 some on Chrono sometimes but mostly on Reddit
How do you get a bb58 for 3k? I couldnt find anything likw that
The SBGM221 has been on my wishlist for a really long time. That dial colour is absolutely stunning and it's way more affordable than the other Grand Seikos. What a beauty!
Kudos for creating a great collection!!!

Love your channel friend. Great content, commentary, analyses.
Kudos! That’s a well-rounded “3+1” watch collection. Extra points for including the SBGM221… loving mine!

Yeah man, it's such a great watch for the price!
Keep up this type of content 🙏🏼 we need more videos out there just talking about the joy of collecting
Cheers Ben!

You're the 1st person I've seen to mail the 3 watch collection.. Well done!!
Thanks Tom, took me years to come to these conclusions 😁
Great vid, this inspired my 3+1 collection as well:
1. Tudor BB58
2. Grand Seiko SBGX261
3. Hamilton Khaki Auto 38mm
4. G-Shock GWM5610
Solid recommendations. Great advice for a new watch enthusiast to get in and get out at +/- 10k
Yep, I think it's a good spot if you really wanna stay in a modest budget
That Speedmaster is such a gorgeous left field choice. Who needs the Speedmaster '57! Using the GMT as your dress watch is clever too. The regular Seikos I've worn measure fairly thick but wear thinner than the numbers suggest.

I have a BB58 (the 925) and a 1861 Speedy. I’ve also been on the fence of buying that GS for months. It could totally work as a 3 and done collection.

Pretty happy with my duo, which I feel gives a balance of timeless design and rugged build in one and a contemporary avant garde appeal in the other
- Rolex OP41 in black
-Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton
Thoughts on this pair?
Can't go wrong with the Globemaster. I didn't want 2 omegas though
Black bay 925, Speedy 57, I agree with the GS GMT, and the beater a colorful Timex 36 Malibu
Perfect line up!!
My 3+1 would be the Baltic Aquascaphe GMT, Seiko Alpinist, and a Grand Seiko spring drive elegance plus the G Shock 5600 as a beater. Would be a bit under $10k all in. I have all except the GS - it’s next on the list!
Nice! Love the alpinist
I'd swap out the speedmaster for the longines bigeye petro-blue, it'd be a killer collection.
Max check out the Citizen NB1060. I've seen it discussed on a couple of forums and videos because of its absolutely stunning dial. I think you'd do a good review on it.
Spot on collection. Love the thought of a 3+1 collection, but can imagine the 1 would lean into 2 and then 3 and so on…🙂
Yeah it's tough to stay in the lines 😂
Loved it!!
Great choices, I am 100% in agreement with you awesome watches....
Thanks Kyle 😊
For me, I’d get a Reverso duoface and a BB58 or Pelagos 39. Honestly think a two watch collection is the way to go (for me).
Great choices! I personally didn't like the 39, but I know it's very popular
Style over practicality always 👍🏼
Excellent choices.

Beautiful watch collection. my selection is quite similar, but I prefer the blue BB58 and the standard saphire crystal Speedmaster or the 57

Loved this video! What strap did you have on the GS?
It's from the strap tailor

Yeah I wanted a dressy GMT to cover 2 bases
This was cool and think the 3+1 collection is something i would like to go for when i really know what i like (still trying out stuff) =)

This collection is absolute perfection. Wish I had saved for these 3+. Instead of collecting a ton of random midrange crap.

I’ve always loved the SBGM221. Definitely my next milestone watch. What is your wrist size?
6.5in. it's such a classy piece!

1- grand seiko sbgw231
2- kurono tokyo 34mm special project
3- ming 1709 copper dial or blue
4-baltic gmt or diver watch since they have vintage aesthetic.
5- honorable mention nomos metro because i like the lugs look beeter than tangente.

Those broad arrow speedies from the 90s are my favorite.

Unrelated question but for grand seiko how do they engrave the "GS" into the movement? Do they use gold for it?

- Diver: Orient Ray/Orient Kamasu
- Dress watch: any Seiko 5 (SNXS77, SNXS79, SNXF05)
- Everyday watch: Tissot PRX 35mm Quartz
- Beater: G-Shock DW5600E
Great start! Congrats on your diploma🤙
Can anyone help me find a good ‘new’ style bracelet for that broad hand Speedmaster? I don’t like the bezel or hands on the new Speedmaster and I don’t like the bracelet on the broad hand. But together? Perfect.
My current 3+1, at under $4000 spent:
Diver: Seiko SPB149
Chrono: Speedmaster Reduced
Daily: Sinn 556a RS
Beater / fitness: Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic
With more money, I'd have went:
SPB149 -> SLA039
Speedy Reduced -> First Omega in Space
Sinn 556a RS -> IWC Mark XV or XX
If you don't wear smartwatches, a GShock DW5600 could be swapped for the Galaxy Watch.

Good call Don!
I struck out on your build approach. Not a big fan of chronos. Also struggle with folks dropping big $s on dive/tool watches when you can get a King Turtle for < $1K. Unless you are getting a diver (e.g., Submariner) as your one watch.
Diver - Seiko King Turtle Special Edition
Chrono -
GMT - Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium
Otherwise went with two Cartiers for dress (Tank Must XL) and GADA (Santos de Cartier Large Grey) categories.
Interesting. I have a similar collection.
Dress/formal: GS SBGM235
GMT: Rolex Batman
Diver: Tudor BB heritage (red bezel)
Beater: g-shock/Seiko PADI
Chrono: IWC Portuguese
Well done 👏👏
Seems like you doubled up with the Tudor and the Seiko Padi. What not just go with the Rolex, IWC and Seiko?
I feel like you should have subbed out quartz for a dress piece. I have the blue omega SMP 300M, green iwc pilots chronograph 41 on leather strap, and the Tudor bb pro... and 3 casioaks. But I really think the watch that completes my sea/air/land/elegant-dress (SEALED) collection isn't the quartz but a dress piece. I'd choose the longines master collection moonphase for value-for-money, but if money wasn't an issue then I'd pay out for a JLC master control ultra thin moonphase.
The GS was dressy enough for my routine
@@WatchCrunchOfficial fair, it was a dressy piece. I always look to gmts as a tool piece, something about a dressy gmt makes it less true towards proper exploration tool use. Still a great piece tho!
i would have chosen an oris sixty five diver (2k), a tudor chrono (5k) and then as GMT the seiko highlighted in the video or a tudor GMT (3k) or a Nomos Tangomat
Another good video, but I, like you, would like a smaller collection, but I just cannot do it.
Haha, it's a good mental exercise nevertheless
@@WatchCrunchOfficial That it is!
id personally say the 3 in 1 should be: dress watch, chrono and diver over having a gmt, not many people have a case use for it, and you add an oddities for the 4th one, maybe its a weird casio or maybe its something just really fun and kind of a joke as a last piece!
I’d go with the 58, speedy hesalite, and a tank
I got like 15 watches and they all combined don't even hit $5K mark. Some bad boys are:
Diver + GMT aka beater: Mido Ocean Star GMT.
A Tudor BB58… also a diver 😅
+
A seiko mod based on a SKX171… which happen to be a diver😂
Hahaha 🤣
My list reads the following:
Diver - Sinn U50 Tegimented ($2630)
Chronograph - Sinn 144 St DIAPAL ($3500)
GMT - Grand Seiko SBGM221 ($4600)
+1 - Casio G-SHOCK GBD-200UU-1ER ($180)
Total - $10,910 (About $1000 over budget)
I agree with two of Max's picks; for others, I am evidently a Sinn fanboy.
Pelagos 39 (Black)
Speedmaster Racing Panda (White)
FC Worldtimer (Blue)
+ CasiOak (Gray)
This would be a modern killer 3+1. But budget may be around 15k😅.
Got my own 3 + 1 collection albeit a bit more pricey.
1. Breitling Navitimer (2022 reverse panda)
2. Grand Seiko SBG221
3. Longines Legend Diver
and a DW5600 GSHOCK as my beater
There you go!
