Well my boyfriend was diagnosed with schizophrenia, but he say he rarely heard voices that sound like that, most of the time he hallucinate with stuff like insects, reptiles and people walking in front of him, worst thing is that he thinks is real. We can be eating on a table and he suddenly began screaming that there are ants all over him and in the table when they aren't, is really hard to calm him. My respect to people with that

This happens. Once a while When doing nothing and being extremely still I think of bugs and insects. And when i snap back into reality usually with a flash it felt real and i shout.
The flash it what makes it scary, it feels like blinking but my head vibrates

I'm a paranoid schizophrenic and I only occasionally hear voices, but it is still extremely tough to live my normal day-to-day life. My mind convinces itself that there are people watching me through my windows or that cameras are hidden in my home. I'm rational enough to realize these beliefs are false, but there's still a strong side of me that lives in fear. Thank you for your understanding, we need help from more people like you.

I think one of the things people often forget about schizophrenia is that it's not simply auditory hallucinations, it can include a lot of visual hallucinations as well as feeling things that aren't there.

I think one thing people often forget about schizophrenia is that it's not simply hallucinations, but a collection of multiple symptoms and that there are different subcategories of schizophrenia ranging from paranoid to catatonic

The problem with these "experiments" is, the voices are just random, they have no bearing, so it’s just white noise to these people.
Plus these folks know they can take the headphones off when it gets to be too much…
Granted it is nice to see that people are giving this some proper attention, but in my experience the voices all have emotional bearing and this just amps up the anxiety. Sometimes I cannot sleep for days between the anxiety and the voices.
I have moments where I feel like I am in a room where like ten people are shouting at me expecting me to answer them (NOW!!!) and then the voice can also be my father or brother telling me how worthless I am, or how what I am doing is a waste of time, but mostly how worthless I am.
So hearing you are worthless from some random voice is creepy but hearing your father tell you the same thing 100 times a day that’s a whole other can of worms.
I almost didn’t write this because the father voice told me I am just wasting my time and to not even bother…
Sometimes it’s not even a voice, but a sound of disapproval that they make.
Latuda helps to soften the voices, but it's so expensive....
Both my father and brother are still alive for all I know, I don’t speak to either of them now.

I dated a girl years ago that suffered from Schizophrenia. She use to hear voices that told her to kill herself and other people. She had homicidal and suicidal thoughts almost daily. Just the right balance of medication, counselling, a good neurologist, and a good understanding of the disease from the people in your life, makes life somewhat normal.

my older sister suffered from schizophrenia too. she committed suicide this past April. My sister was so kind, creative and beautiful and I know she was very brave and fought as long as she could. it's a terrible and terrifying illness and it breaks my heart she was afflicted by it. I'm very sorry about your friend, and my Hope is the medical community will be able to come up with some medicine or therapy to better treat this condition compared to what's currently available. I appreciate BuzzFeed for spreading awareness with this video so others can have compassion about what people with schizophrenia deal with on a daily basis.

It's one thing to hear those voices all day, but what they are not experiencing is the delusional thoughts, the deep paranoia and anxiety, the emotional instability, and the actual belief on some level that those voices are real and that they actually know something bad is going to happen if you don't do as they say.

Manic depression is an outdated term. It is called Bipolar disorder. It is something you need to be diagnoses with and to be treated for with a doctor you build a good working relationship with. If you have not been diagnosed, why are you saying your doctor said yu are manic depressive. And why. Yr doctor using outdated terms.
Guess you're just another lying troll on the internet.

    • @hidesertdude1876

If you want to know for certain, have your doctor prescribe you Latuda. This is also used for bipolar disorder as an "off label" use. It's expensive so be prepared. After a week on even the bipolar dosage you should notice some major improvements, this is like a volume control for the voices and it will help with your manic episodes as well.

I feel like it was an ok ish insight but really misses the complexity and variation of hallucinations people have. They are always hard to deal with but aren’t as simple as attacks on yourself. They also miss hard on the fact that many people hate their hallucinations but you believe them on the spot, as well as don’t want meds cus hallucinating is much better than the long unhealthy and inconsistent road to the perfect cocktail of meds. Which has to change as you get older. Also, not just constant repetition that makes you believe the paranoia and hallucinations. You just do. I don’t think it’s possible to simulate hearing what we hear, or see with how it feels to believe it in that moment all at the same time, while being around people who don’t, and trying to contain yourself. While you are simultaneously not sure what’s going on, but certain that something needs to be done, or decided on, about the reality of the situation. Something we will almost never feel again but we used to know very well. It doesn’t end and that’s why you can’t simulate it. I do appreciate the video. I like that people care. Someone needs to cus I can’t figure it out or even think about it long enough without convincing myself I don’t have it.

Eye-opening. I wish there were a schizophrenia simulator where it was all nice positive things (e.g. "You're doing great right now", "Your hair is looking good", "You matter") that people with schizophrenia could listen to. I wonder if the good things would drown out, even temporarily, the negative voices.

I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder 7 years ago. It's a daily struggle to deal with everything even with heavy medication. I have to say it really is different for everyone. I mostly had tactile hallucinations rather than visual or auditory. I see these videos all the time with the auditory simulators but it only covers one aspect of it. There's so much more to it besides that.

Schizophrenia comes in many kinds. Conditions like these are stigmatized and marginalized, and people who have them are discriminated against. Others keep calling such people minsters and killers. I know that these people are no worse than "normal" people. People with schizophrenia can make good friends, good neighbors, and good workers.

  • @masha9825

Not all people with schizophrenia hear voices. This is an important thing to remember. Voices are not the extent of schizophrenia. It's a very terrible condition that needs to be learned more about. Schizophrenia can take someone you love completely away from you and it is devastating. Please remember this too.

I have breakdowns because of it, I'll cry for hours because I cant tell what's real and what's not. Lily G You do know that people with actual schizophrenia aren’t limited to voice hearing, right? Some see stuff. A friend of mine talks about blood, Swing blood everywhere and that freaks her out to the point where she has to be taken to the hospital. She’s not crazy. She looks fine, doesn’t everything we do, is very pretty (actually pretty enough to be a model based on her height and body features) but gets episodes of schizophrenia both hearing things and Swing things (sometimes).
So this video is like 1% of what gender victims actually experience.

Schizophenia is an array of symptoms with uncertainty. In the video it makes it seem as if were not human and are just a test subject.

And all of the commenters saying we're "brave." Apparently brave enough for the pity but not for tax payments to help pay for the years of therapy and medication. And all of those undiagnosed people saying, "I have schizo" I feel like you get the upset about that. I get that everyone's experience is different with this illness, but I feel like the hallucinations, especially the auditory, are so publicized that auditory hallucinations are automatically associated with schizophrenia. No ok ne sees a disoriented person and thinks, "schizophrenia" but of course you know they'd be calling that person, "schizophrenic." No one sees the other symptoms as recognizable and it makes me so frustrated because it's so much more than a hallucination, on top of that, so many people with schizophrenia don't experience hallucinations

    • @oldfashiondragon

Matty Green I have pure OCD and when I explain it people will say so it's schizophrenia( it's not). Or when people say anxiety and depression are the same they're not. so in order to know the difference what helps is people educating themselves on the disorder that's what I mean. And this video being on schizophrenia it is connected to my comment about mental health.

True, but some mental disorders are byproducts of other mental disorders so in a way they are linked. But should not be compared.

nilstkkt curious how you would think to go about simulating it? I can't really think how I could make someone feel manic without giving them some kind of stimulant and then bombard them with anxiety triggers (that's the only way I can describe how I feel when I'm manic)

    • @nilstkkt
      @nilstkkt 6 лет назад

I understand but my point was about making a video explaining it with some kind of immersive experience but not necessarily with real people having to feel the symptoms

Thank you!! I wish people who know people with schizophrenia could see this and, begin to even know about Schizophrenia. I am a 50 year old woman who has Schizophrenia and wasn't diagnosed until I was 18. I hid my affliction for as long as I could, and my family never did understand, well alone have a clue what was going on with me.The medications help dampen it down but make a person's body terribly uncomfortable. I can't go out at all. If I do, it is incredibly hard, but I do go to grocery store, walk around my neighborhood,.. I like The Library. I graduated High school, am very well read and got married, have been in a loving relationship with my husband for 26 years and raised two Sons, both of which are doing very well. I have had to be hospitalized many times, but that is okay, I am grateful I have that option and do like the head shrink and brain wash..it is much needed sometimes. I want anyone with Schizophrenia to know, it is possible to get on top of it and not be afraid of the hallucinations enough so one can function in one's particular way,, even on the worst of days. I appreciate this video and I hope it does a lot of good

My dad has schizophrenia and it has been a huge struggle for him his whole life and when I think of my childhood I'm reminded of his struggles. He was hospitalized more than 20 times. He tried committing sucide a few years back and it was a big wake up call for him. He now takes shots and it has been a complete 360. Now that I am older I have a better understanding and have so much admiration for him for doing such a great job raising my brother and I while struggling with schizophrenia.

yup. Wish they could simulate other hallucinations. If you think hearing someone say "there are eyes everywhere" try seeing them. lol, I see a thing crawl around the corners of my house and I used to feel hands grab me under tables.

I've actually suffered minor stages of this. Mainly after smoking marijuanna. Still on occasions it comes back. Its difficult for a person to understand because it seems the thoughts get the best of you and the voices are usually negative and feel they are eating at your conscience and psychy. When you are around people you think you are hearing their true thoughts. Thanks for this video and I hope those who watch gain a better insight.

Idk but it happens to me sometimes that when I sleep and wake up after like 10 mins or more I hear voices in my head that talks so fast or something is just hard to explain. So like what I do I just walk around and like just try to do smt and not focus on the voices. Smt it doesn’t work. But it’s not everyday tho. This year it hasn’t happened to me and I’m 13. But the past few years it did maybe twice in 2016. Is it serious?

I really feel like this is one of the commonly known mental illness with the biggest taboo surrounding it. Not to mention harsh stereotypes and overall judgement from society. It is so nice to see people trying to understand and see the real side of this illness. I hope more people join this ❤️
