Didn’t realise all the heartache you’d suffered behind the scenes - behind that smile there has been a lot of pain, a lot of grass-related trauma. I’m so sorry... but congratulate you on finally sharing your story. Brave move. It’s clear you have the love and support of a wonderful family and a bunch of loyal followers online, you’ll get thru this! 💪🏼🌱😘 lawn or no lawn, you are always a king to us!! 👑
I had the same battle with the grass in my backyard. After 11 years I've had enough. Its all coming out and I am building a pool. Greetings from Canada.
Awwww so sorry about the grass, but I'm glad for the happy ending. The girls are just as happy with or without the grass as long as they have their dad to play with. Good job, Dad!
My daughter who lives overseas sent this to me with a caption saying 'this made me think of you' and with a smiley ☺. Boy i can relate to every word! Ive spent thousands on trying to have a beautiful lawn. Even got a company in at first. It breaks my heart now to see a lawn full of weeds and patches....
I really like how you edited this video! This entertained and amused me. I can imagine the effort to put all this together, it was absolutely worth it! always keep it up and thank you dad!!!
He was a good man who fell into the abyss when his grass failed to thrive, but NOTHING DEFEATS LOVE! Imperfect grass, notwithstanding! The abyss can just shove off.
My father won many street lawn cups. It's a very competitive sport. We had him put away when he grew a clover lawn knowing my mum was allergic to bees.
I swear this is the most dad video I have ever seen and I loved every second of it. Having tilled and reinstalled the lawn at my father's house only for him to kill it two years later still hurts my soul, so this dad vid hit in ALL the feels
Oooh, this reminds me of my youth. We used to have a very big garden with amazing plants, levels, several terrasses and light decorations. It took my parents years to get it to the end result. When it was finally finished we moved to an apartment without a garden! I still need therapy. 🍃
You should be proud mate. What you have now is a proper family garden. Of course your girls love it. Leave the lush lawn aspirations for when you have nothing better to do...which hopefully will be never. Happy Days. 🤗
Ohhhh, i feel for you. And you sure succeeded in reaching our emotions too. Kudos with this epic movie, which is worth every 4minutes 49 seconds of it. Prizes for the script, the acting and the music! Fortunately it all has a (some kind of) very happy ending. Well, my little 16 square meters of grass suffers from similar anxiety. I don't know to much about it. During the pandemic we even had a mole living in it. What i do know, is that every few (5) years, or in the state you have it now, you should slightly plow it, aeriate it, re-sow it. Never use too much seed at once. Also the type of grass combined with your soil matters. Go to a specialist, a gardener for help and advice. And you may one time enjoy your prize lawn again. But for now, children playing on it: enjoy the children, and once they leave high school, your lawn may once again shine. That's what we did, if it weren't for that dang punk of a mole. Man, you really have a happy ending for the phase of life your family is currently in.
This is how I feel about classic cars. Once the rock chips and a door ding happens on your nice paint you have a few choices. Most stop driving it except on special occasions.. some resort to the trailer queen life from the beginning.. afraid to park or drive it... some Repaint it and hope it doesn't happen again. But some like me.. wake up one day and say... the heck with it. Cars are made to drive... i daily my c3 corvette. I accept the failures and rick chips. I actually ENJOY my car and it's $300 driveway paint job even after the hundreds of hours of prep and 2 accidents the last time was $300 in supplies and I touch it up with a small brush occasionally... but dang it. I love my car and I drive it and enjoy it.. Warts and all. Most people like it. The occasional perfectionist or purist will rudely mention the tiger stripes and BAD paint.. and I just let it go as I don't care what they think and smile as they get in their ugly suv and drive off as I fire up my 600 horsepower 406 sbc 70s green corvette and rev next to him at the stoplight with my side pipes just to show him there plenty more in her besides a bad paint job and she's mine. All mine. Yeah.. bwahahaha
Best video ever... 3 hrs of movie couldn't get me to feel what I felt watching this video. The happiness, the sadness, the climax and the happy ending.
Mate... what a tearjerker! I was on the edge of my seat! I'm glad it had a happy ending! (PS: I have a lush lawn that is being taken over by Paspalum! but I'm a warrior and I WILL WIN!)
It’s very possible that second packet had parasites that attack the roots, once that’s there it damages the soil. If you genuinely are interested in getting your grass in slightly better condition I’d recommend getting a test of the soil contents, can usually catch those parasites quite easily. Or it’s possible the contents of the soil changed, like the acidity levels. Just a few recommendations for if you genuinely want to grow it back.
When my kids were little, (I have 3) there was never any grass under the swings from all the "stopping". I have grass under the swings now and I miss the kids...
Our lawn grows ok except in the summer when most of it goes brown. But the council's kikuyu grass on the verge outside is always thriving. That stuff is indestructible.
Jordan: “I couldn’t put teeny tiny little face masks on each individual blade, just to make sure they didn’t catch this plague.” “People tell me to put more seed down”… *Throws bag of seed on ground *, “it didn’t help.” 🤣 I swear, you are the 🤴 of dramady. We love you and your lawn HtD!
When I built my house, it was recommended to me that i should put grass down on my front lawn, just to get it looking ok very fast. This was ok I guess... lasted a few years..... then the lawn grubs came..... they decimated the entire lawn, then the weeds set in - all i had was a front lawn of weeds now. Got me thinking - did i even want a lawn in the first place? - No. So over the next few years I planted a bunch of canopy trees, had paths widing through it, and now i have jungle. Much better than any old boring lawn, and less maintenance.
I feel for you! Anything green reacts that way to me too. Be courageous and strong! Avoid the temptation to concrete it all. Remember: love your wife, love your girls, love your garden! Dave.
I loved this movie and the previous one , I feel Ya brother , I have come to be an addict like most dads with a lawn , I had lawn aerator suggested to me , it worked well . Best of luck
This is by far the best video you've ever made! hahahha. Awesome editing. So much effort went into this. Well done mate. I've just spent about $200 on various grub killers while watching my lawn die before my eyes. I spent so long getting it immaculate, running irrigation and adjusting my watering schedule... Kids could see it was stressing me out and went around finding grubs for me.
Sadge Lawn Noises, That sounds really painful. Not a fan of Hardwork & then just for it to go 💥 in the blink of an eye. Despite the hard work, least there was a jubilant outcome. Great video & danke for sharing. Keep it up & stay safe guys 😎 👊 4:17 😎
Order a soil test kit. Take a few samples and mail them in. Results will show levels of nutrients and minerals that are not ideal for growing grass. Maybe it's not a fungus, you might just need to add lime or epsom salts. All the fertilizer in the world won't help if there is a calcium or magnesium deficiency. Don't give up after all the work you've put into it, this can easily be fixed!
you are fantastic.... you use the gift of wit so well.... i hope you always do these youtubes and maybe branch out to movies!!!!! I have Netflix and Amazon streaming and maybe they'd help you make a movie of you in character as a Dad, This episode had an epic story that I learned how important green grass is for men, and women (my sister is really into her lawn looking just so). I live an apartment with container garden in summer but i grew up with grass with dirt spots where my brothers played football. A neighbor told my Mom -- whad an A plus lawn, you are growing children. wish the best for your family and i think your wife must be cool and smart to let you do your things but stay out of them.
Aw... so sad you reseeded it with contaminated seed! Less is more sometimes, I suppose. Kudos for the hard efforts. Super dad, gracious mom, and lovely kids. Amazing videos! My opinion matters little for I am a Brazilian-American teacher living in a 38 sq meter apt in Copacabana with a dog and a rabbit, but just love the videos!
What a ride! Wow...the journey has been a rough one. Maybe the best use of your valuable Dad time and energy isn't a lawn at all, but some raised beds for growing a bit of veg? At least the sadness will be contained if those fail!! 👍 #dadjoke
Exactly this, this is what the Netherlands is all about basically. The best house, most fancy car, crack somewhere? Fix it asap at any cost! :) I decided to simply let that go, the joy is back and the stress is gone.
Great video!! I followed your first video around the time I was seeding. Unfortunately i seeded too late. Had to install sprinklers that took me longer than expected. That being said it was a massive fail on the grass. I was going to seed this spring but after watching this video I am torn!
This video was a rollercoaster of emotions
Indeed 😂
This video was a lawnmower of emotions 😅
Didn’t realise all the heartache you’d suffered behind the scenes - behind that smile there has been a lot of pain, a lot of grass-related trauma. I’m so sorry... but congratulate you on finally sharing your story. Brave move.

As a mom about to handle the lawn this spring - thanks for the trials and sharing with us. LOL CONCRETE IT ALL. I feel it.
Good luck!
Noooooo, grow FOOD instead!! It’s so much more rewarding and actually gives back for all your efforts!!!!
Same. So much the same. About to tackle the lawn for the 3rd year in a row. I've not actually gone after it hard yet, but this is the year! I hope.
@@Rainbowgrrl You can grow food in planters placed on...concrete.
Or do a moss lawn

This story is enough to make a grown man cry.

I was expecting a plug for some lawn-care service, but...that was beautiful 😂.
As a recent dad I'm currently struggling but it's good to know I'm not alone. Stay strong everyone
I really like how you edited this video! This entertained and amused me. I can imagine the effort to put all this together, it was absolutely worth it! always keep it up and thank you dad!!!
That smile at the end was beaming with joy. Love to see a proud, happy dad.
He was a good man who fell into the abyss when his grass failed to thrive, but NOTHING DEFEATS LOVE! Imperfect grass, notwithstanding! The abyss can just shove off.
I never thought I'd cry about grass, but it was hard not to.
My father won many street lawn cups. It's a very competitive sport.

😂😂😂
Aah. The street lawn cups.

Another piece of great story telling combined with comedy. Great work How to Dad 😊
I feel you. Plumbers dug up my lawn. Tried to regrow. Gave up. Now is a huge dust bath for birds and a mud pit for the dogs when it rains 🤷♀️
😭
Throw some local wild flowers out there and see if anything takes.

Hello from Nova Scotia Canada. Love your Purex advertisement here on the television. 🇨🇦😀
How sweet your kids are! So glad to see your smile in the end 🤣💖😊
My husband know what you feel. And we live in Poland (Europe).
Very good movie! For real. 😘
Lawn grubs rubbing their 50 pairs of hands together looking at that luscious lawn
The kids still love you! Forget the lawn battles and roll in the dirt!
Could be worse! I'm shoving snow today!!🥶❄️🌨️. Mark in Milwaukee Wisconsin 🇺🇲🧀🍻.
When my kids were little, (I have 3) there was never any grass under the swings from all the "stopping". I have grass under the swings now and I miss the kids...

Try a test plot: Light rake bald lawn spot to expose for more sunlight, uncompact soil. Spray with 2% Dawn dish soap mixed with water to kill bugs.
I’m sorry for your loss, it’s a sad day when the grass moves on 😢
my sympathies! We watched your original video and used your wisdom to grow our own grass. We’re on day 13 and it’s been thrilling.
I feel for you! Anything green reacts that way to me too. Be courageous and strong! Avoid the temptation to concrete it all. Remember: love your wife, love your girls, love your garden! Dave.
You are ADORABLE as is your ENTIRE FAMILY
GOD BLESS YOU and your Grass
Been trying to get a decent lawn for a few years now, with the same results. Even dug out and replaced the soil.
I wasn't emotionally ready for this video. My heart goes out to you
Great lyrics, didn’t even miss the guitars and drums, this was a touching rock ballad for sure
Best emotional documentary in a long time..
I'm not sure how I missed this video, but Im glad I found it!!!
Your original lawn video, is actually how I discovered your channel. not a dad at all, but enjoyed all the content a long the way.
I loved this movie and the previous one , I feel
Ya brother , I have come to be an addict like most dads with a lawn , I had lawn aerator suggested to me , it worked well . Best of luck
You are the *perfect* Dad. Please keep up the epic work - you are slaying fatherhood.
So sorry for your loss 😞 RIP beautiful lawn, you will be missed.

Or plant wild flowers and rock gardens and a sand box and plants and a little pond and playground type mulch chips instead of concrete or grass. 🌻🎉
Order a soil test kit. Take a few samples and mail them in. Results will show levels of nutrients and minerals that are not ideal for growing grass. Unfortunately the lawn was seriously 😒 harmed in this video RIP green lawn….. behold the concrete king to the rescue….. love your work
Best director ever dad 🥰
I have a bunch of grass to sow this spring, wish me luck 🤞
Dramatic short film 🎥 😄
You've still got your hair without patches (hopefully). Keep up with that.
Sad about the grass, happy about the love.
Grow wild flowers and make a meadow instead... way easier... or a moss lawn.
Sounds good. The flowers i mean. Never heard of a moss lawn. Must Google! But doesnt the moss come up easily if kids playing? etc
C'MON! Who doesn't love a tearful happy ending to a saga of one Dad's journey?! About grass and hubris.
Ahh the real grass, was all the daughters we made a long the way.
Saddest story ever. Stay strong.
Don't worry about your lawn, she'll be right.

Ohhhh 💝 i have tears in my eyes 🙈
You can fix this. Throw down pre-emergent at the beginning of spring. Then fertilize once a month with something mild like Andersons.
Also do a soil test and balance the pH for whatever your grass likes
Oh my heart! So many feelings 😭❤
1 lawn was harmed in the making of this video🧐😊
In all seriousness I'm sorry this happened.
I'll be ok....
Aw... so sad you reseeded it with contaminated seed! Less is more sometimes, I suppose. Kudos for the hard efforts. Super dad, gracious mom, and lovely kids. Amazing videos! Bugger 😳 hey as long as there’s no prickles..all good 👍🏻
Bro you're too much 😂😂😂 I am about to embark on my journey. Love your lawn videos.
Lol just move to Ireland, we can't get it to stop growing here
well done man, made me little bit cry (emotional)
This brought tears to my eyes 🥺
This Video make me love and cry at the same moment
Thanks for existing pal
I actually hate my lawn. fully concrete it last season. best choice ever.
You need to mix in herb lawns - chamomile, pennyroyal, lawn thyme, and lawn daisies.
YOUR PAIN IS OUR PAIN !!!! 😭😭😭
Maybe some of the patches are from foot traffic as well, just install a few winding paver paths here and there to disguise 😀
Oh my. At least the girls still love you 💖
Fantastically funny video! Thanks for sharing your pain! This too shall pass!
The Dog hasn’t forgiven “How to Dad” for the Poor Condition of the Grass. Also, Pickup the Poop before it finds its way into the house.
I want any video to have such a happy ending
Fantastic work mate
What a ride! Wow...the journey has been a rough one. Maybe the best use of your valuable Dad time and energy isn't a lawn at all, but some raised beds for growing a bit of veg? At least the sadness will be contained if those fail!! 👍 #dadjoke
Truly revolutionary work, my friend.
Well, that makes for a great artificial turf advertisement. LOL

I love my lawn but actually look forward to winter as I hate mowing it .
So tragic! But with redemption!
Feeling the Love dude, great video x
Good lesson to learn☺️
This is kind of a classic tale, told in documentary style, I guess? However it's t Ed Reed, it's great!
Unconditional love 💖
Beautiful, for us lost dads
Oh no leave Keanu alone he’s a Canadian National treasure
I never knew what grass meant untill I saw your video. Sure it means a lot.
