- Flite Test - The Bixler Build - PROJECT
The Bixler Build. Although Josh S. still envies Bixler for having his own plane, in this episode of Flite Test He helps build the Bixler. Josh S. reviews the plane giving us the positives, and the negitives. The Josh'es go to fly the bixler, oh wait! I guess you'll have to wait. Tune in next time to see what Josh S. thinks about the bixler flying expirience.

Here I am 10 years later, I was 7 when this came out I’m now 17! Never gets old these vids
Just ordered my Bixler about 5 hours ago and i cant wait for it to get here, thank you for getting me into this hobby FliteTest!
Andrew Sterlini the bixler is a great first plane one of the best to this day even 4 years later
@nalli77 It's to bind your RX to the TX. It should already be bound though.
@B4its2L8guy Thank you for the Suggestion! We are always open to constructive criticism.
@commanderplyers The Readt-To-Fly Version does! Everything you need to start flying.
Great job as usual. Looks like a lot of fun. Can't wait to see it fly and I wish Jose Scott all the best in flying. I am starting out as well and I am feeling all the excitement and terror that goes with learning to fly. Best to all of you and I am staying turned to the next show .
Thanks
About migrating the powertrain to other builds later on ou mentioned around 8:30, very true. After being done with my Bixler the hardware moved to a FW190D 650mm that now goes like a rocket! Thank you for all the joys Bixler the plane brought me.
Nice layout and build, Joel. I, too, have a Bixler 2. I like the large access hatch.
@minileafe There is a link in the description.
Neat plane, congrats on having a plane named after you. Cant wait to see the flight review!
I love your plane Josh ,i'm buying it now........nice touch with the flite test logo on the motor mount
I love my Bixler! Thanks Josh and thanks Santa ;) I took it out to fly yesterday in fairly high winds (more than I'd fly my 400 size helis in) and the Bixler was a hoot! At low throttle into the wind it could actually fly backwards (slowly) and flying with the wind it screams along. Catching the Bixler by the nose instead of landing it is fun too. This is my first fixed wing aircraft and I would recomend it to anyone wanting to learn to fly RC.
Your intros and production quality is superb
Thanks guys for your help on this... Your video help me make the decision to buy this plane from Hobby King. This will be my very first one and very excited to get it... Thanks again guys
Hi Paul: I beat my first one to death to the point where it wouldn't fly any longer so I picked up a "kit" and transferred everything over to it
I just flew it the other day and now I've got some flight time under my belt, didn't crash once.
Yes it IS a very durable plane. I flew it into telephone wires, into a tree, and before I knew what I was doing, did too many tip stalls into the ground than you can count. Did lots of repairs, more epoxy than foam left lol
I just built my Bixler, the manual does not give the centre of gravity location and the pictures are way to small, thanks flitetest for the cg info. My Bixler was missing the esc & I had to glue the fuselage together as it fell apart when I took it out the box! It's a fairly easy build, nice. I took the washers out the nose & will start with a 2200mah battery. The aileron clevises are weak & easy to break, be careful! I would recommend using some thread lock on the prop spinner.
looking foward to getting one
Similar to the second plane I owned, the Hawk Sky as recommended by RCPowers. Great design for beginners and still fun to have in my hangar a year later.
Thanks, I do think that's the best way to go. I have my old sim kit but sent it home last year so maybe I should just buy them their own and they can take it with them to keep current.
looking forward to the flight vid!
thank you so much i ordered turnigy 2200 mah 3s lipo battery and also i will get 6x4 prop as you said.i found one but its out of order i have to wait for it
Hi Flitest crew! Always a very good job! Congratulations
again!
So, I was wondering if you know what kind of 2620
brushless motor is this, cus I can't find it on HK site.
How many Kvs?? etc... I'm building a plane almost like this, what a coincidence.
Continues...
Josh B is very happy about that manual being written in english...
@startazz nope. he has it for minimum throw. he said it has lots of surface so, to make it docile, put it to the outter holes on the control horns
this was my first plane and it worked great! i crashed it a few times and now i want to get another to fly fpv. great plane!
First plane I flew and found it so easy to fly, i bought it for nephew but his dad and him couldnt fly it. Some people find it easier than others. This plane has a massive following from rcgroups a lot of people really like this plane
i love this airplane !! Hobby King finally has it =) !! going to save up money and get this plane for sureeeeeee
Hey guys I love every video you have made they are so informative and humorous :)
I would love to see a review of the Dynam sonic 185
- thanks a lot and keep doing what you guys do best :)
@ivcvideo you have it reversed, inner most on servo and outer on the control horn.
Careful with the servos. On my second flight the elevator servo went bad and it stopped taking input so the plane took a nose dive. It's a really hardy plane though. This is my first plane and nothing ever broke--only the elevator hinge kind of cut.
Im so tempted to buy one even though I have an Easystar!
Guys I love watching your videos and I've learned a lot from them. You have really excited me about committing to the RC hobby but truthfully I have to admit I'm still intimidated by my lack of skills at bullding even this rc airplane kit. What I'm looking for in my next step in RC airplane is something that's ready to fly like my 1st trainer rc plane, the Dromida Sky Cruiser 2, but larger and more powerful in some windy conditions and slightly more acrobatic BUT it has to be easy and quick to unpack and get together for Park flying as I'm not anywhere near a real large rc airfield where I live. Also I just don't have the proper living or storage space to store a large fully assembled RC Airplane. Does such an RC kit exist? What do you recommend? Thanks in advance for your reply.
I'm going to order the bix3, can't wait to fly it.
not a very good decision, considering the cheaper and updated bixler 1.1 V2
Hey Guys good job on this, on the HK site i see a few planes like the Bixler; such as the (Floater jet) , (Pusher star), and(Dolphin micro) will these planes respond well to flapperon setup and how are they different? i know the latter may not be a simple question to answer. thanks
I'm looking to buy the bixler from hobby king for a beginner/trainer, it's quite cheap for what it is, ~ £60 for an RTF, the website recommends this for a beginner plane but i'm a bit weary as it's a 4 channel plane, i might look into getting it anyway.
Hey guys, I recently bought the KIT version of the Bixler, do I need a Y connector to plug in both aileron wires into the one plug on the receiver?
Thanks for your help,
Al
@startazz Oh, OK. hard to follow threads in this format. It seemed as though you were saying for max surface deflection, put the rod on the outer most hole, which is backwards.
Cheers
I hadn't seen this episode, but his name always made me wonder. Guess that answers that!
I was looking at those, for switching from rotory to fixed wing.!
What is the prop size of the Bixler 1.1?
This Plane Looks A little like the Icon A5 water plane. Them thangs are awesome!!
best intros I have ever seen
@rahensbroek I would recommend a glue posed on the hibbyking susgested items
Muito bom esse brinquedinho!!!
@NauticalMil3s And this plane is actually a rebranded Beta 1400, all the way down to the numbers on the servo leads. I know because I have one ;)
Whats great about this vs the Multiplex is that it comes with ailerons and a slightly bigger wingspan.
my one came with the fuselage split it was not glued. I used hot glue to assemble it
Does it come with a power supply for the charger in the RTF version
now does the bixler arf come with the velcro for the rx and battery and stuff?
Is this plane good for FPV or does it lose balance with a camera and a transmitter on?
A clone was cloned! This is nice! Keep it up guys! You are doing great!
What scres did you use Joshto attach the wings
I had my heart set on an EPP FPV and Hobby King just got them in stock and now this comes out..........My wife wont notice TWO new planes will she?
What airfoil does this plane use?
experience the gift of flight. I bought my trainer but then relocated overseas for work and just used the Real Flight trainer. I had purchased a fellows hobby which came with glider, Piper Cub, flying Vee and other stuff but I never had the opportunity to fly them. Xmtr is so old that it no longer meets FCC regs so I am wondering if I can use the xmtr that came with the kit for the Bixler. Might just buy new. Anyway, trying to take a hobby I think about and let my family enjoy on their own.
I'm new to R/C planes and this looks like a good place to start. I noticed on the HobbyKing website that it's available with throttle left and throttle right radios. Which do you recommend and why?
I'm loving the videos. Keep it up.
So I've read most of the info on this plane and watched all the videos. You say that it'll carry the weight of a GoPro, and I'm sure at 1oz more my Contour 1080p won't be a problem. But how much weight with the stock motor/esc can it handle?
Cool plane. My Grandsons will be visiting this summer but I won't be there since I'm working overseas. Grandma is looking for something to do to entertain them and I'm wondering if this would be a good project for them to work on and then I'll need to hook them up with a flight instructor. Thinking about getting them the Real Flight simulator to practice with before hand. All of my planes are mid 80's builds except the one fuel powered trainer and I've never flown one myself. Just want them to.
Hello and thank you for your cool videos! Can you please tell us a good setup to make this plane FPV? Motor-ESC-battery-Prop? I don't know the limits for this model but let's say that I need something good and not just to make it fly around. I hope to get an answer! Thanks!!!
Was it really necessary to use a saw to open the packaging?
At around 3:55 , we see Josh S. go off with the battery and the charger. Do you need a 12 v power supply that can hook up to it? + if so, what does he use? Thanks
Will this plane fly with 2s battery without any modification?
Whats the best glue to use for this foam plane..
@flitetest its probaly how long it takes for your vids to proceess do to how much they have in them media wise
will a 4000 mah 3s battery burn the esc or motor up?
does it come with a wall charger if no were can i get one?
do you think i should get this as a first plane?
I just assembled mine and is very tail heavy even with 2200 mph
Is the motor supposed to be tilted left?
@marhar2 yeah will there be a version without tx/rx?
im having throttle issues with my bixler 2 it wont throttle up until at least half way on the stick and then it seems a little hard to regulate. any ideas?im using orange rx eqipment and a hobbyking 20 amp esc?
What transmiter did you use and how much does it cost?
can you do flaperon mixing ?
hey, would the bixler's engine mount take a 2812 1400kv motor ? was thinking of buying the kit only and putting this motor i have lying around on it.
Many thanks
does this plane come with a transmitter, id really apreciate an answer as im looking at getting my first plane
@ivcvideo he is looking for docile control, not max control though
Cool plane and i like the name. Have you reviewed the Mustang behind you yet? I bought it yesterday at the aussie hobbyking shop. Would be good to see a review before I crash it.
can we use hotglue?
What's best trainer: Bixler 1.1, Bixler 2 or HobbyKing Walrus ? :p
which brand/model/specs of portable battery charger josh scott have used? where can i find it? thanks
like i said on facebook, i want to buy this plane for fpv, but would a 3000mah work well or would it be too much for the plane to cope with?
Hmm... You're telling me that the wing's "snap" mount will loosen up after a while?
What will happen later then? Will the wings disassemble and pop out during flight? :P
How can one prolong the life of the mount? Leave it fully assembled at all times? (Takes up a huge amount of space that way though...)
Hey guys, what is that device you're hooking up the charger to? Is that connected to AC?
Don't worry about the annoying people saying that this is a copy, I consider it an improvement.
And we have alot of Brands selling this kind of plane, its just the perfect electric trainer type at this moment. The HK's one is the more affordable I found, it have 4 channels! Even the advanced guys loves to fly one of this. And beyond of that, it's a Bixler, hahahaha!!
I will buy soon as possible.
Cheers!
please reply is this good for begginers?? if not can i have a rtf plane
Nice ,looks liek a pretty cool plane. Maybe a bit biger for FPV Ohh you for got the last control surface Up is down and down is up... lol ;0)
@cncsmarty the 4000mah battery would just run longer you are not at risk of burning up the esc or motor. Unless weight starts to become a factor;
At 7:58 you say outrunner motor. If I understand correctly, according to the pop up on Hobby King dot com describing same, the front half outer case of the outrunner motor turns with the shaft and prop. If this is so the outrunner can not work on this airplane.
could you use hot glue???
yeah there is a small problem.
1. your battery. Get a 3s battery not a 2s. anywhere from 20C and above will provide more than enough power.
2. get a 6x4 prop, it's 10 times better and more powerful than the stock one.
3. you may want to get a turnigy 2200kv outrunner, I have it with a 6x4 prop and it's powerful. 6x5.5 and it's demonic.
4. don't worry about it being too powerful, you can always dial it down or go easy on the throttle. Better to have more than less... Good luck!
i want to buy this
Could this plane hold a Venom 2100mAh 3S pack.
My Bixler and Bixler 2 just arrived at 1230 central standard time and i flew them in less than an hour later... I printed off some flitetest logos and put some double sided sticky tape and printed off a picture of josh Bixler and Josh Scott and put them on either side of the canopy.
Guys I cant make my bixler fly and anyone help me ? I have a small vid of my plane. I checked all the connectors and they a correct everything works but at launch it crash badly on the floor and I did check CG. And prop is working but not sure what is the problem it doesnt lift in the air, my elevator is pointing up.
@flitetest this will probably sound really silly, but i cant find the RTF version, would it be possible for a link or something similar?
Is this plane for beginners
It looks a lot like the Kinetic 800 exept for engine placement.
@ivcvideo it would be for maximum throws but Bixler is telling you how to get lower throws for beginners...
Hey lads, i cant find a pack on hobby king that comes with all the Remotes and batteries and stuff.. can you please let me know if its available? i want to buy 2 and ship them to AUSTRALIA
Can this plane carry a gopro?
It’s been 10 years already?!?!
@wickedpenguinbox Thats the bind plug
