Similar to Taylor and JR’s show, you need a segment if I can’t do/be/eat, then I can’t be an athlete. People write in ridiculous statements, also this guy if from the UK but speaks so Gangster - it’s laughable.
Another reason The Games should separate from CrossFit. The "Athletes" don't care about overall health and certainly do not care about the CrossFit message (not community message - the other one about health). For the professionals, it's about the money. They will eat, drink, say ANYTHING for a sponsorship. They are NOT role models.
It's not toxic, it's idiotic. This is the best advert for folk to stay in their lanes and not assume that elite performance translate into elite thinking.
Slightly off topic but I've not been interested in the new athletes at the games. I got into crossfit in 2012 and back then we had Dan Bailey, Rich, Jason, Josh etc etc. To me they were all great characters within the sport and were fun to watch and root for. The new crop just seem to care more about followers on IG, which I get as they neednto make money but they all seem to be very similar and no one really stands out for me to support to win. Maybe I'm old and it's a nostalgia thing 🤷🏼♂️
I couldnt agree more! I dont want to say I hate it because thats a lot stronger than I want to come off as. But you see that same mentality in every single influencer/shitfluencer and they just dont have anything that makes me...aspire? Motivate? me to become better or like? I am not saying I NEED someone to motivate me by any means BUT it is nice to have something to click on when its the blue monday and just need a little some some to make you rememebr to not be a piece of shit for the day haha. With the "Legends" it was easy. They preached and practiced what they preached. The difference? The sermons they gave were that of what Crossfit used to be. What it stood for. AND they didnt care (at least publicly) about how many followers they had or anything social media trendy to be noticed because everyone in the community knew them and loved them. Today, you have chicks and dudes who care more about the trendy thing to do on social media or gaining followers or worse...try and normalize being...lazy? hmmm maybe thats not the right word...When I think of Josh bridges, Rich Froning, Jason, Miranda Oldrroyd, even old school Sara Sig, I dont think of lazy or normal or weak or normal....Maybe normal is the word im looking for. We are looking at people now a days who want to say its okay to eat x y z when Crossfit clearly states its not. For someone in the world to eat x y z, its whatever. They arent working for or part of the Crossfil company. When a Games Athelete is talking about eating sugar because he can and wants to...sure he can if he wants but it goes against EVERYTHING the Crossfit company meaning stands for. Also, "normal" people arent always ripped or super jacked but to promote "all body types" as healthy and beautiful is wrong because ALL body types arent healthy. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so I wont say someones opinion is wrong or right but healthy? I stopped caring about the games when I started seeing more and more of a certain athelte because she wanted to promote eating and how eating is what a real girl does. This person may be strong sure, but shes not fast and not promoting the right message. As she eats boxes of crumble because thats what a real woman does. This is telling women who take care of their body, take mind and prepare their food in a proper way so to not intake unneeded junk and sugar and fat, telling them that they are not "real women" because they arent eating junk all the time. Then you have Crossfit promoting monster energy as the official sponsor of the games at one point...hahaha monster? I love monster but im also not a spokesperson for Crossfit or the Games and im not spreading lies by saying eating sugar is bad but let me promote this woman who eats junk food because "real women" do that and here is this sugary drink that will make you a great athlete. Get fucked. I just rambled and said a bunch of stuff most people wont even read or cae about but the idea that promoting some dude or chick who is just like every other social media influencer/shitfluencer is just degrading to the sport, the games and the legacy that the "Legends" created. Now we have sugary drinks, fat people, handstand dance party and random people saying its okay to be unhealthy because we are human. I digress and step down from my soap box.
sure there is a difference between the training methodology and the competition, but to suggest to bring in coca cola means you don't know your own sport's history.
This is what bothers me. Someone who is trying to lose weight is going to see that podcast is going to think that drinking coke everyday is okay because he does it. And, I don’t know if he coaches at all but if he does he’s gonna influence the members he coaches with this false reality. The moment when he asks Pedro how coke is bad for you, I wanted to scream. Another moment that made me wanna lose it is when he was questioning Pedro doing meat and fruit, and how long he’d be able to maintain it. This is exactly what health and fitness shaming is. Talking down to people because they care about their health. And the whole working out more so I can eat what I want thing? I’m over that shit. Props to Pedro for this and maintaining complete composure when he went off the deep end.
The Teams side of the games should be like the Ryder Cup in golf. The Ryder Cup is held every two years, and team captains (older players who used to be the best in the world) select the BEST PLAYERS IN THE WORLD to represent the teams, therefore it is a HUGE spectacle. If they held the Ryder Cup every year, it would still be widely popular, but it wouldn’t be the special occasion that it is. This is what they should do in the CrossFit space. Take Fraser and Froning, have them draft 10 athletes each, and formulate a fun and exciting team competition. To argue that the teams athletes aren’t in a lower tier than the individuals is just silly. The way to make a team competition actually fun to watch is to make sure THE BEST athletes in the world are competing in it. Having something special like a biennial team competition will draw great viewership numbers and will make the best athletes actually want to show up there.
For what it’s worth, I went and did a product test for a new fitness competition a few months ago and one of the other people that was there was Josh. I had never met him in person so I was paying attention to his movements trying to pick up on anything that would help me. I saw a few things that I had never seen before so after, I asked his reasoning behind the techniques and he thoroughly explained each movement and also alternative methods had the weights been lighter, reps less and so on. Couldn’t have been nicer and in my opinion couldn’t have represented CrossFit any better. Not that he was trying to either. Since that day I have asked other questions and he answers. I started doing CrossFit over 15 years ago and I believe we were one of the first 50 affiliates in the world. I have since trained with other people that have had great results and even finishing first at the games. They let you know it and it gets old quick. I don’t know Josh personally or how he acts everyday but for anyone having this as their first impression of him I wouldn’t let it sink in too much. Again, just my thoughts on experiences that I have had with Josh for those that haven’t had any other than this. Have a great day✊
Guys....I think I figured it out...Al-Chama is Sporty Beth's child sent back from the future to make sure CrossFitters have a healthy relationship with food
I remember watching Joshua compete on a team 2017/2018 maybe and he was over celebrating one event and then throwing an obvious tantrum the next event. I literally had second hand embarrassment for his team. Major douche vibes. Happy for what Invictus was able to accomplish last year and the other athletes are all very professional and represent the sport so well. This guy….he does not.

I feel like we sometimes fool ourselves these days by just “saying” moderation and then the bad stuff can’t “really” hurt us because we we verbally established a filter to stop those things from having an effect. Bruh. Can’t wait for Coke to adapt to CrossFit. 😂 Thanks for this video Hiller. Always a pleasure.
1. At 18:09 Pedro realized that he was NOT interviewing someone who has any knowledge about CrossFit 2. This is why you can’t give a micro to anyone 3. Shutout to Pedro for NOT ending the interview right there 4. I know that CF Games ain’t CrossFit but this guy is taking it to a whole new level 🤣
With his mindset he will someday experience poor metabolic health. Glassman. Has even said that if he had to choose between running sugar or aspartame through the system he would choose aspartame. That's kinda scary to think about. As always, great video!
All of his Crossfit credibility is lost when he says it is ok to bring in Coca-Cola. Does he know big sugar attacks Crossfit? And that Glassman went on a coke tour to fight them?
CrossFit training and CrossFit competition are not the same thing. I owned an affiliate for years and would never recommend doing 4 wods in a day and then stuffing sour patch kids in my face and eating 6 bananas washed down with 5 energy drinks. Go to any comp and that's what you see.
Never done CF L1, so i dont know if they cover the “sugar thing” , and if not they should , and teach about it. Every single video you Watch from crossfit athletes they are eating sugar after workouts . I remember in a Mayhem video preping for CF games with jason grubb and Rich, talking about how you should not “eat Healthy” and use sugar. Also remember in the HWPO open prep track, in the daily videos they literally tell you “after this Workout, rest , eat some SUGAR, and hit this other workout “ So….
Tell me why you were never more than a teams athlete without telling me why you were never a teams athlete. Some people should simply not do interviews.
The more I watch the more Im just like please take this dudes mic away from him. Not Andrews haha. The never heard of his name or anything hes accomplished in the sport, speaking about combining Coke and Crossfit together to bring in money...fuckin joke. hahahahaha
Make a video about why sugar is inherently bad for. I don’t understand your argument. You support your own use of exogenous testosterone as safe because “research”. Yet you point to CrossFits rhetoric on nutrition when demonizing sugar. Most of which was written by Glassman. The man who doesn’t believe in anything but hard science. So which is it. Do you believe in the use of science, or only when it fits your bias. The only research you are going to find that sugar is inherently bad for (not consumed in excess). Is in rats.
I am not 100% with you all the time but I am 100% with you on this video. And the only research I need on sugar is my own life right up until I quit eating it. And all the people around me that still do. This guy sounds like a jackass. And I can't believe he said that to Pedro. CrossFit as a sport is is not the main point of CrossFit existing! And it almost certainly will never be very big because it's pretty much only interesting to people that do CrossFit training. Thats just fine with me.
In high school tennis there is a "team" season where you have 19 matches. Top 6 boys/girls singles matches 3 doubles matches for boys/girls 1 mixed doubles match Your #1 guys faces the opposing #1 ranked guy etc The school with 10 wins ends up winning the game. Maybe cf can do something like that but till then teams is not really teams and it's hard to follow and don't care about it
I think, in a previous video, how the shift from athletes who competed and also preached CrossFit has changed how new people who come into the sport never read the L1 book or at least seen a video of Greg speak. This is the end result of when the games trump the foundations of CrossFit. At this point, the games and CrossFit needs to separate because more people who think like him are going to be more and more.
This is a horrible take. Every major sport has hundreds of sponsors. Take the money, make the sport better. Needing to align with every sponsor is going to hold the sport back.
Definitely something to think about… I like teams but I don’t go out of my way to watch them. They’re very messy to broadcast. It doesn’t play well on tv. Just a thought 🤔could be wrong
Damn.. Josh looks bad here... trying to knock down peter for his new diet habits which is obviously working. As, he's dropped a good amount of weight and is enjoying. But the fact that he wants Coke to come into the sport... when Greg spent years and years fighting against them to save the brand... if Greg wouldn't have done that.. josh probably wouldn't have had a championship.. He clearly doesn't know the deep history of Crossfit Vs Sugar.. It's almost comical listening to him speak here. A lot of respect to Peter for staying composed in this interview especially after the direct shots at him. Another good video Hiller.
Sugar isn’t ‘toxic’, it’s the over-consumption of calories that leads to obesity and associated health problems. That said, Josh comes across as someone who’s heard snippets of what is correct and has tried to piece them together into a coherent point, and failed miserably.
You just made an idea for the new team games, 4 or 6 person teams 13/14 workouts 1 person from the team does the workout like individual and scores points for the team
Idk a lot of studies say artificial sweeteners found in 0 cal drinks cause a lot of health issues. Maybe glassman would think differently but when he said no sugar, I feel like he wouldn’t then say yes to artificial sweeteners. People think Diet Coke is somehow “healthy.” If the idea is only consume healthy things, as fitness in 100 words seems to indicate, then I’d argue 0 cal drinks like monster or reign aren’t ideal. Just my opinion and I’m not an avid cross fitter so I’m ok to be wrong.
12:20-12:30: why not get other brands out there that support “heath and fitness” ? Why hasn’t anyone walked over to Phil Health and say, hey I’m a cross fitter but also do strength and conditioning. You’re mister 7x Olympia… I want your brand Gifted Athletics to sponsor me. Not Coca Cola or Pepsi or snickers…
But people need to understand the difference between game day and every day life. Don’t forget how many athletes promote RP for managing their daily nutrition. I like to run distance. On race day or long runs I will end up consuming more sugar in the form of gels than I would ever normally consider healthy to add in my diet. It’s for performance, not health. Gummy Bears and a coke is NEVER for health.
Does he know how sponsorship works? It's not only you get pay for wearing the name of the company, when people see their athletes doing some sorth of things they want to copy them. What exemple is he giving?
Ugh why is he advocating for mediocrity? Everyone should strive to be eating no sugar and non processed foods. It’s not that difficult geez stop acting like everyone is weak!
Teams are for Individuals that can no longer compete with the elite individuals but still want to compete.... If Cole sager would of went teams 7 years ago he might have a podium by now.
Zealots will say because of “sugar” and “empty calories”. If you dont have diabetes or insulin resistance, you follow a good diet (getting most of your calories from food) and exercise regularly; a can of coke (diet coke even better) every two days will totally not do anything to you. People demonize sugar like if you are ingesting liquid mercury
@@spencergsmith He regularly endorsed them because he likes them, he just never had a business relationship. It's the exact same thing Hiller did prior to his C4 sponsorship.
@@ManOfEthnicity if he was telling people that they should also consume them or that they were healthy, then Lucas Parker was wrong too. “Whataboutism” is always a terrible argument because two wrongs don’t make a right. And I haven’t once seen Hiller claim that C4 is healthy or that everyone should drink them. I’ll be honest with my athletes and tell them I enjoy eating cookies, but that doesn’t mean I endorse or encourage them.
…wow… I mean… this guy has NO IDEA what the soda companies tried to do to Crossfit. If it were up to the soda companies there wouldn’t be a Crossfit methodology, there wouldn’t be The Crossfit Games. He’s probably cool with that, bc he’ll probably go do some other sport and get paid to be an athlete. This is ruining the sport side of crossfit for me. This is why I didnt watch wpl. It has NO connection to what Coach G was conveying. I could be considered to have all the athletes do the L1 if they want to compete.
I don't know about it but it seems like he needs some recognition from the public as an athlete. I am sure of one thing, one of the foundations of a healthy life has been destroyed in 5 minutes. LOL Some elite athletes think they know things just because they are an elite athlete, and all they do is make things worse as they explain them to you, and things get worse and worse...It´s ridiculous.
CrossFit already had Monster as a sponsor. That was already too hypocritical. They should not have done that because now who really cares. There's tons of sugar in Monster as there is in Coke as well.
Not sure how this will be received but i'm willing to throw an opinion into the ring. Might delete later. I'm a nutrition coach ( i know..who isn't these days, right?) and more often than not the clients that come to me have "all-or-nothing" thinking. I'm paraphrasing, of course, but they often believe they can't make a change unless they abstain 100% from "bad" foods like...oh...Coke. So, unfortunately, the way their mind works is that instead taking ANY micro semblance of positive action, they face paralysis and end up in the same cycles of indulgence- regret - repeat. So, I get from one vantage point, the message this homie is trying to spit - that "balance" (processed vs unprocessed, for example) is a great metric to try to reach especially for those brand new to the nutrition space. And one of the many ways to achieve this is by not saying any food is good or bad, but by teaching choices, moderation, portions, etc. (Quick example: I had one client with a WICKED sweet tooth who would eat scoops and scoops of icing whenever his wife was making a cake for an event. Instead of telling him to abstain completely, we utilized awareness, choices, and also subbing in a diet coke when he had a huge sugar craving. This swap although unideal in the 100 words format, was a tactic that immensely helped him ween off all of the sugar he was consuming and begin the momentum of making much healthier choices.) That all said, here's the point of this obnoxiously long comment - he's clearly not qualified or experienced to explain this line of thinking because he doesn't even touch on qualifiers or nuance (like Hiller does with C4). But he has no self-awareness and thinks because he has achieved some micro level of fame in a tiny sport (compared to NFL, for example), he has the gonads and platform to talk about something as nuanced as nutrition. PS. Hiller, if you want a case study on a potential Games (Masters, let's not play) athlete who eats according to the 100 words, I'll be your guinea pig.
This guy doesn't understand the difference between doing something individually and a brand promoting something, You cant promote Coca-Cola and say well, if you drink 1 can a day, its ok, and for that reason, we will accept a Sponsorship from a soda company that, NO!! The brand has a message, and it needs to stick with it.
I think I got lost or didn't hear it... But who is this guy? Is he from team Invictus? Also assumption if he is from Invictus... I believe their whole gym is a safe space. A place to hide after girls who eat got attacked. 😅
Andrew, "The brands just find you if you are the best of the best" statement is simply false... Laura won the freaking games last year and in an interview she sadly stated that nothing has changes and no brands are contacting her. Now you can grind on that Toomy was not there but the fact is she won. Yet....
If I can’t eat chocolate almonds, I can’t be an athlete!
The most ludicrous statement I’ve ever heard
I said the the same thing about masturbation... Outright ludicrous!
Disclaimer: a huge amount of C4 was consumed to produce this video. 😂
Similar to Taylor and JR’s show, you need a segment if I can’t do/be/eat, then I can’t be an athlete. People write in ridiculous statements, also this guy if from the UK but speaks so Gangster - it’s laughable.

This guy being videotaped is exactly what is wrong with CrossFit. “In moderation” in everything waters down Greg Glassman’s “Fitness in 100 Words”.
13:59 did he know about CrossFit of GG fighting against coke companies ? He should read CF-L1
Better question he prob doesn’t know who GG is….
I got ALOT to say but I much rather just say, Good on Peter for holding his ground.
Great video Hiller .
I judged him at a local event. I remember him being cocky but friendly
Why can’t he just say, I need to get paid.
12:27 WTF ?!
roster of athletes doing events individually? Isn't that Grid League?!?
In a way yes
Idk why people go so crazy once they get in the spotlight
Cocaine or cola? Okay.....I'll watch it for myself and see.
In high school tennis there is a "team" season where you have 19 matches.
Top 6 boys/girls singles matches
3 doubles matches for boys/girls
1 mixed doubles match
Your #1 guys faces the opposing #1 ranked guy etc
The school with 10 wins ends up winning the game.
Maybe cf can do something like that but till then teams is not really teams and it's hard to follow and don't care about it
Teams are boring.
At 10:50 you’re talking about grid.
Are they allow in muliple times?? Or is it one and done
The team competition is stupid. That is all.
Hi Hiller
I think, in a previous video, how the shift from athletes who competed and also preached CrossFit has changed how new people who come into the sport never read the L1 book or at least seen a video of Greg speak. This is the end result of when the games trump the foundations of CrossFit. At this point, the games and CrossFit needs to separate because more people who think like him are going to be more and more.
Pedro’s face: say less 😂
This is a horrible take. Every major sport has hundreds of sponsors. Take the money, make the sport better. Needing to align with every sponsor is going to hold the sport back.

Definitely something to think about… I like teams but I don’t go out of my way to watch them. They’re very messy to broadcast. It doesn’t play well on tv. Just a thought 🤔could be wrong
17:22 time stamp for the greatest line in crossfit
Isn’t Grid League somewhat already that version of team competition you’re suggesting?
People need to stop comparing CrossFit to tennis and golf. CrossFit will never be golf or tennis.
Looks like CrossFit is in the "let's cash out everything we can out of this and ruin the foundation of what got us here" phase
Brittany did not go to Underdogs
Hommie asserting his Front tail!
Eek, I follow CrossFit pretty closely and didn’t know who this was but I do know the names of his former teammates. 🤔
If I hold the bible in the other hand, woulden't a coke be fine?
Damn.... Great point
His rant seemed out of left field. Pedro handled it like a champ.
Does t surprise me he's says "safe space" or arguing people limitations... Doesn't he workout at the same gym Speegle does?
I believe he does/did
Man that guy in Pedros vid did seem like a huge douche.
Forgot who it was after an event but it was a male athlete that said he slams a bag of sour patch after his events
Grid league is kinda what you were talking about with a 10 man roster putting people where you want.
What was the intent of him being interviewed? I still don’t understand? He seems to love to hear himself talk?
Not the gum drop buttons lol
12:20-12:30: why not get other brands out there that support “heath and fitness” ? Why hasn’t anyone walked over to Phil Health and say, hey I’m a cross fitter but also do strength and conditioning. You’re mister 7x Olympia… I want your brand Gifted Athletics to sponsor me. Not Coca Cola or Pepsi or snickers…
❤😂Even my brother who’s almost 500lbs knows that the coke he drinks is unhealthy in ANY amount!😂😂😂❤
CrossFit and coca cola do not belong in the same sentence!
Never cared for teams and I never will. Honestly they should get rid of all the divisions except elites. Idgaf about "teams"
To be fair....watching crossfit videos one sees crossfit athletes eating and drinking basically crap all the time
You can. Andrew's point is acknowledge it's crap, don't make it a habit, and move on.
@10:45 You just described Grid 😜
So full of himself
Wow. Sacrificing health for money and notoriety. Sounds like big pharm
Does he know how sponsorship works?
It's not only you get pay for wearing the name of the company, when people see their athletes doing some sorth of things they want to copy them. What exemple is he giving?
I support this safe space.
Didnt they try to replace Devyn for a unnamed crossfitter. I think she is going individual as well.
So why exactly cant you have a can of coca-cola every now and then?
Zealots will say because of “sugar” and “empty calories”. If you dont have diabetes or insulin resistance, you follow a good diet (getting most of your calories from food) and exercise regularly; a can of coke (diet coke even better) every two days will totally not do anything to you.
People demonize sugar like if you are ingesting liquid mercury
because sugar is evil. God forbid you enjoy something you love every now and than.
You can. But don't confuse it for anything other than what it is.
Teams competitions are nice to participate in, but boring to watch
Am I missing something here? This guy talks as though he's been on the podium as an individual.
Lucas Parker would literally pound Dr Peppers between heats and he gave the crowd some of the best lifting moments in games history.
Consuming something and endorsing it are very different.
LOL
Some elite athletes think they know things just because they are an elite athlete, and all they do is make things worse as they explain them to you, and things get worse and worse...It´s ridiculous.
CrossFit already had Monster as a sponsor. That was already too hypocritical. They should not have done that because now who really cares. There's tons of sugar in Monster as there is in Coke as well.
Bring on the coke ! Sporty Beth will says it’s ok because you will feel fitter drinking it by feeling better about your poor health
Brought to you by California Hormones and C4.
This swap although unideal in the 100 words format, was a tactic that immensely helped him ween off all of the sugar he was consuming and begin the momentum of making much healthier choices.)
That all said, here's the point of this obnoxiously long comment - he's clearly not qualified or experienced to explain this line of thinking because he doesn't even touch on qualifiers or nuance (like Hiller does with C4).
There’s promoting balance, and there’s exemplifying unhealthy habits to impressionable people who don’t always understand where to draw the line.
@@spencergsmith agreed 👍
This guy doesn't understand the difference between doing something individually and a brand promoting something,
You cant promote Coca-Cola and say well, if you drink 1 can a day, its ok, and for that reason, we will accept a Sponsorship from a soda company that,
NO!! The brand has a message, and it needs to stick with it.
I think I got lost or didn't hear it... But who is this guy?
Is he from team Invictus?
Also assumption if he is from Invictus... I believe their whole gym is a safe space. A place to hide after girls who eat got attacked. 😅
Pedro is good…
Andrew, "The brands just find you if you are the best of the best" statement is simply false... Laura won the freaking games last year and in an interview she sadly stated that nothing has changes and no brands are contacting her. Now you can grind on that Toomy was not there but the fact is she won. Yet....
Such a painful interview to watch.
