Subhash Ghai approached Rahman in 1992 for a film that never got made. Finally they came together for Taal - a musical extravaganza by the showman.
For TAAL, why did Subhash Ghai opt for Rahman and not a music composer from Mumbai.
Was it smooth sailing for a director known for his music sense and a composer making his mark for unusual experiments?

For someone like Subhash Ghai who was regarded as the showman of Bollywood in the 90s to go to Chennai to meet and sign up ARR, speaks very very very highly of ARR’s talent and SG’s conviction and belief 🙌❤️

I think just the music is enough to see the talent in Rahman. Been a fan since I heard ye hasi vaadiya from Roja. And that was in the early 90s. No internet, no streaming. Just a walkman, cassettes and hell lot of AA batteries.

I just remember the day when it was heavy rain in Chennai, me and my friend just to avoid the rain, we went to the movie theater not knowing about the movie (not even knowing the language for that matter), we only trusted in ARR. Oh man, the theater was upgraded with the Dolby or DTS speakers, it was mind-blowing with ARR magic. 💖

This Ghai guy sounds so full of himself even when he is praising Rahman. Though Rahman himself has been very appreciative of Ghai's role in his growth as a film music composer, I find something amiss about him. Can't really tell what. Just listen to his patronizing tone and his guts to call Bakshi Sahab's lyric ordinary. I have always appreciated the music of Taal without having to depend upon the visuals.
I look forward to see Shekhar Kapoor or Ashutosh Gowariker talk about him. I am sure they would be far more intriguing and won't 'filmicize' their experiences with Rahman. Mani Ratnam for example, kept his appreciation and his story telling very real.

U know what... Even he did not give credit to Nadeem for film pardes in Indian idol just becoz Nadeem asked money before the project and also ensured that they will work according to their heart .. he wanted to make them bound but they were not agreed for the fact that whenever they want they can go and said ghai that if u want good music I can guarantee u that music of pardes would be a super hit .. and it was ....
He is very much of himself ......

    • @birajification
      @birajification 2 года назад

@@kranthikumar1322 I agree with you partially. No harm in expressing what you really feel. Ghai was doing the same by telling Aanand Bakshi that his lyrics were not outstanding. Yet the choice of words from such 'senior' director should have been careful
simple: सरल (ok, nice lyrics need not be too bright and flowery)
ordinary: मामुली (meaning anyone can write it, may be Ghai can write too, then why ask Bakshi sahab to write? just using his name-brand?)

As Mr. Subash Ghai said A. R. Rahman is called Music Storm in Tamilnadu (Isai Puyal = संगीत तूफान), exactly as he said the songs not get popular in the first day or the week, like a storm there is a mild likability like breeze, and breeze becomes wind in the second or third week and the wind becomes storm from the third week, after the third week everybody fell to his music like the banana trees fell to the ground.

Honestly one someone takes his own name & gives credit to himself, then you clearly see lack of class. Mr Ghai lacks the intellectual depth of RGV & Mani Ratnam. Taal had amazing amazing music only because it was created by ARR. if you compare Taal music with the music of other Ghai’ movies you can clearly see the difference. They sounds like nursery rhymes when compared with Taal. Even before Taal, Rahman had given awesome music in films like Rangeela, much underrated Daud & classics like Bombay. Rahman’s music is intelligently melodious and is miles & miles ahead than any other music directors. Ghai is lucky to have Rahman and not the other way. No offence though to anyone.

The truth is if Rahman would not compose TAAL , the movie is not there..no one notices... O2Inda...get RGV (RANGEELA) for ARR...then you see what he says..

One suggestion I would like to give to O2india is that they should stop using third class covers of magical and legendary songs of ARR sir.

Dear Sir. thanks for your suggestion. When we started this series, we used cover versions, as we felt (And continue to) that Covers are great tribute to originals. But to honour the feedback from our viewers, that prcatice is discontinued now. Now we use oroginal composition. You are requested to visit our channel. It has more than 125 episodes with stlwarts of cinema. we release new epiosdes every thursday. Please subscribe to our channel. Regards.

I really wish you had used the original songs in the video instead of covers. Just totally ruins the feel of the music and the narration. I know you show covers so that the viewers get to know the impact his music has on youngsters, musicians and people all over. But it really is not serving the purpose. Hard core fans of Rahman get really irritated with covers of his songs...most of the covers ruin the beauty of the songs.

"Ar rahman and I combination is the best" - what a laughable statement. Subhash Ghai & Lakshmi kanth Pyarelal - were best combo- for Karz, Saudagar, Khalnaayak - Subhish ghai was wayyyyyyyy past his expiry date when Taal was made; and that is aptly reflected in the movie - such crapy movie with such melodious music. I guess i now know why he never made a good movie after saudagar - because Subhash Ghai never stopped overrating himself and opened up to reality - reality that he is an average film maker at the most.

Taal was an ordinary film with the most cliche story line... ...a poor, rustic girl, a rich urban boy and in between a clownish entertainer just like the director himself, the only good things about the film were its music and choreography.
