Another great video! Amazing song! And yes, I rememberer watching Hawaii Five-O as a little boy. Also liked the new format of your video - jumping strait into the song and lesson and holding off on the advertising portion until the end. Makes the whole appeal much more genuine and real and less like a commercial. And this is coming from a guy that has bought every single one of your videos so I'm definitely a fan who wants to see you succeed.
Damian, your slacking !!! I expected your intro first words to be "ALOHA!" Was may dads favorite show, and being a kid of the 70''s like most we were a 1 tv household, and what dad wanted to watch, we all watched. Get video and reminder of a great song from the past.
Freaked me out to see you with a solid body fender, but only for 10 seconds or so. Thanks for bringing back The Ventures and a super cool tune written for a super cool tv show.
Damian!! Thanks for another brilliant lesson. Can't tell you how much I enjoy you and your playing. Your back room makeover makes me feel like I am visiting your house in Tampa Bay. Do you have any lemonade? Keep being you. Perfection is hard, but for you it comes naturally. Your shirt helped wake me up!
That is amazing playing DAMIAN and a super cool song🎶 Brings back all the enjoyment of watching the original Hawaiian-Five-O and makes us want to go back to Hawaii 🌋🥥🍹🍍🌺🌊🏄♀️🏝😎 Love all the info and history you add about the song too👍 You do such a great job in all aspects when you put up a new lesson 👏BRAVO☺️
Loved the program and the theme! Taiwan even aired it on one of their broadcast TV stations, that's how I stayed current on "5-0" while I was stationed at CCK Taichung, Taiwan.
Very nice. I have most of it, but this fills in the missing bits. I'm 63, and I used to watch Hawaii 5-0 as a kid. Loved the belly dancer in the intro, hahaha. And Wo-Fat. Great villain.
I was lucky to meet Nokie a few times and I have a picture of me and him too. I think he played one of his last gigs here at Joes Bar and Grill in Burbank, CA which is a block from my house before he passed. He played a set of Ventures songs with the Deke Dickerson’s band. I was able to see The Ventures play with all their original members in the 1980’s.
Johngonefishin Yes I know that. He is a master guitar player and has a nice collection of guitars. He has a separate second band that just plays The Ventures songs. All the guys he plays with are top notch. Nokie and Deke were close friends.
Brilliant video as ever Damian. Loved the original show, I remember it being shown here in the UK when I was a kid and then repeated some years back at lunchtimes. Still very watchable. I love 'walk don't run' by the Ventures too. It's a classic.
Quality boss, I love this tune, as I did the show. I play surf rider and this will be a great addition. Solid life advice and something I instilled in my children when they were young, it stuck with my boy, but my daughter can still be affected by others even though she's a high achiever (recorded professionally the 1st song she wrote at 12, black belt in kung fu at 15 and in university now studying music) 😎🎙🎸✅
great lesson i used ot watch the tv show, ,it son a gina but new actors not the same, i love surf guitar it always gives such a good work outon fingers
Hey Damian! Yes, I too watched re-runs of Hawaii 5-0 back in the 80's (I'm about 5 years older so I started watching the show in the mid 70's) and like you I always dug Jack Lord (especially his dyed black pompadour and all the big American cars he drove!) The thing I always dug from the very first time I saw the show was that killer theme song! You know what else I dig? This lesson! I'm about halfway through your tutorial now and am totally stoked because I've always wanted to learn The Ventures' version (they are also heroes of mine!-That must have been killer meeting them while attending that party!). And yes, I noticed your shirt (how could I miss it? LOL! I'll try and refrain from the cheesy cracks I first heard back in the 80's when day-glo had made a comeback and not ask you "How many batteries does that shirt take?"-hardy har!) On a different note, how is that Squier Jazzmaster?(what year is it etc.?) It sounds quite good here! I don't have a guitar with a whammy bar so I've been considering picking up one of those since I play a lot of surf-y stuff that requires one (thanks to you, brudda!)..keep up the good work!!!
Great cover Damian. Thought of putting out (for purchase) downloadable/printable tab sheets for the songs? I find it a bit easier to practice with those. Thanks!
Love this one🤪🤪🤪 I was gonna give ya a "Book 'em Danno" but I see a few already have. I have your second Rockabilly DVD as a download, I was wondering if your first Rockabilly dvd will be available as a download? I live in Australia and things take forever to get here. Are there any essential techniques or tips I'm missing out out on? Keep-on-a-rockin🎸🎙🎸
Thanks for watching the video. Much appreciated. My first Rockabilly course I don't have any plans to make available as a download. You may be interested in my "Good Rockin' Guitar" course which is available as a download. Mixing Jump Blues with Rockabilly is how I approach my lead playing over Blues progressions. Cheers & Keep on Rockin' :)
What a wonderful experience. I was lucky enough to hang out with my idols the Original Skatalites in 1994. Did you get a chance to geek out about why they choose specific gear for tones? Opportunity vs serendipity? I would have loved to be a fly on the wall for that.
There was a lot of people there that wanted their ear. So I only talked to both of them for a few minutes and it consisted of me telling them how much their music meant to me and what songs I absolutely love. But they were very nice and signed some memorabilia for me and took a few pics with me. It was so cool to hang out and eat cake & drink refreshments with them. Definitely a night to remember. :)
I watched the series as a kid in the 1960's in the UK and it was like another world with permanent sunshine, massive cars compared to the ones in the UK and the lifestyle. The opening titles and the music really made it and it was really popular here at the time. Jack Lord was well known for being in the first James Bond film and his catch phrase "Book him Danno!". If I can get the hang of my Squier Stratocaster I'll give this a try, early days as I've only just got it. Still we're on lockdown again here so might end up being an ok player by the end of it.🤣
Great as usual Damian. I know probably not quite your thing, but have a listen to the Aussie band, Radio Birdman's "Aloha Steve and Danno", a classic using this riff. Cheers.
Dear Damian I note that no matter what guitar you play with, the tone is superb. Now the Squier sounds better than a Fender Jazzmaster. Great Guitarist as always. Thumbs up!
Great Stuff! As always! Wasn't there a solo in the song? I prefer the Jack Lord Hawaii Five O. I wasn't really wasn't diggin the new revised show. Was always looking forward to those battles between Wo Fat and McGarrett! LOL! Thank you for posting this.
Thanks for watching Angel. As far as I know there isn't a dedicated guitar solo in the song. I really enjoyed the original show, but I've never seen the new series. I think my parents checked it out for a little bit but eventually stopped watching it. Keep on Rockin' DAMIAN
Book "em, Damian. Waittaminute, Paisano. That doesn't sound like a kama'aina name. WhussamattuhU. The original show is incomparable. I'm 68, how could I not have watched the show in its original runs? And the original Magnum. Man, they knew how to make real TV shows in the 70s and 80s. My dad lived on Maui. He called the show "Hawaii Wine-0". Just resumed trying to learn guitar after decades of decades. Now I'm serious. You jam. So groovy, and bitchen, to hear that you heard the Ventures and got some customized licks from them. BE THERE, ALOHA!!!!!! (I can't believe almost everyone is dead. What happened?)
@@Damianblf Howdy. I'm a bit baffled by the finger work on the first whammy, even after slowing to 1/4 speed. It looks like you're on the 3, 4, and 5 frets, which doesn't match the chord in the lower right corner (I can't do bars yet, are those for rhythm?). Can ya hep me out? Mahalo plenty.
Yep, watched the show all the time as a kid. Little trivia - when Elvid did 'Aloha from Hawaii', he gives his belt to a member in the audience. The person that got it? Jack Lord's (Hawaii Five-O) wife.
Damian Bacci being stuck in hospital all day watching geetar vids has its advantage. Not having a guitar to hold for 3 months is the biggest bummer of all. Keep em coming I'll catch up.
Great video, I just love this. This is a beautiful version. Thanks so much Damian.
