    I remember the 1st time I met Huey it was at the Miami sea statium , I sat out in the rain to watch them , as everyone around me ran for cover. Afterwards Huey came up to me and said " we've never had anyone sit in the rain to watch us before," he invited me to come to the after party on their yacht and we became good friends. Rest in peace my friend. You are now a Ghost Rider in the sky.

    Was always intrigued by Billy Jones. He was not only a brilliant multi-faceted musician, but also a talented mathematician and tutor. Very unlike what you would expect from a rock musician. The guy was probably a genius, but as in so many cases, in the end it was his demons that ended his life. RIP, Billy.

    Best line up Hughie ever put onstage. What a band! They were Tampa’s contribution to the southern rock pantheon. By this time Lynyrd Skynyrd was gone, the Allman Brothers were falling apart, & Marshall Tucker was reeling from losing Tommy Caldwell. The genre was fading as it’s core bands gradually changed their sound.

    Lyrics
    Gypsies danced around the campfire
    Shook their tambourines
    They were waitin' for the ghost of an outlaw
    Sundown was his name
    As the midnight hour grew closer and the sky began to fall
    You could see his shadow in the light of the moon
    He had heard the gypsies' call
    She had hair as black as darkness
    Her eyes were emerald green
    Oh her voice was soft and tender
    Ooh she loved to sing
    She will sing no more or dance again
    Or shake her tambourine
    They had taken her away she was dead and gone
    You could hear the gypsies sing
    Ooh, ooh hurry Sundown (the gypsies cry Sundown)
    Ooh, ooh hurry Sundown
    Ooh, ooh hurry Sundown (oh the gypsies cry)
    Hurry Sundown
    Ooh, ooh hurry Sundown (the gypsies cry Sundown)
    Ooh, ooh hurry Sundown
    Ooh, ooh hurry Sundown (oh the gypsies cry)
    Silver devils in his holsters
    Stars strapped to his heels
    There was fire in his eyes
    They say that he was dressed to kill
    He had hands as fast as lightning
    Heart as cold as steel
    He had come for the one that took her life
    To lie him in Boot Hill
    Gypsies danced around the campfire
    They shook their tambourines
    They were waitin' for the ghost of an outlaw
    Sundown was his name
    As the midnight hour grew closer and the sky began to fall
    You could see their shadows in the light of the moon

    Can't we all say WAA because it's not the original lineup? Who cares how wonderful the music is.

    • @kurtjustin7918
      @kurtjustin7918 3 года назад +1

      Absolutely. Let's celebrate a band that uses the same name 40-plus years later that bears no resemblance to the band that was the Outlaws! Who cares what the tribute band actually sounds like, as long as they're playing the same songs and we can pretend we're listening to the Outlaws, even if we're not?
      SO let's hear it for mediocre (or worse) cover bands that refuse to call themselves cover bands, lest they won't capitalize on what the real band created . . . which actually WAS wonderful music. And for those who disagree, how about a great big WAAAA!

    • @andrewsparr9287
      @andrewsparr9287 3 года назад +1

      Dear Kurt, I meant the current lineup still does the music justice and that is wonderful. Can Outlaws music never be played live again? And the lack sound and video quality is attributed to phone. I share your love for the Outlaws. If you want to see a band butcher original music, check out the current Foghat. Much respect, Andrew

    • @kurtjustin7918
      @kurtjustin7918 3 года назад +1

      @@andrewsparr9287 Hey Andrew, thanks for your cordial response. It's appreciated, especially in light of my sarcasm, which you didn't resort to using. I tend to react that way when I see/hear videos of groups playing songs by some of my favorite bands from my youth, using the band's name when it's a group clearly composed of different people not doing their songs justice.
      I think it's great that the Outlaws' music is still played. I think it's an unacceptable lack of integrity, though, when the name is used as a cash grab to attract audiences. I also just read about Henry Paul's "leasing" of the name "Outlaws" from Hughie Thomasson's widow shortly after Hughie's death, the subsequent lawsuit, etc. I'd like to hear Henry's side of the story, but if what he allegedly did is true, it's really disgraceful.
      Doug Gray has basically been doing the same thing with the "Marshall Tucker Band" for almost 40 years. He's the only original member and he literally has no voice left whatsoever. Yet for some reason, people come out to see these guys make a mockery of the real band's songs. I'm not contending that this version of the Outlaws is terrible. I simply believe that while legally they may be able to use the name, doing so displays a complete lack of integrity. And I'm sure Blackberry Smoke could do a far better job covering those songs -- as Blackberry Smoke.

      @@tomekkaz I agree, they are legends. The one small gripe I have is that when they played live, Hughie is usually pretty spot on to the original recording whereas Billy never plays the same thing twice and is often way off from the original recording. And since a big part of what makes them great is their lead guitar performances, it leaves something missing when Billy seems to be in his own little world playing something not even close to the way the song is supposed to sound. Some may like this... but not me.
