The Oosterscheldekering or Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier is, without any doubt, the most impressive storm surging structure of the Dutch Delta works.
It is the largest of the Delta works series of dams, designed to protect the Netherlands from flooding.
Four ships were specially designed and built for this project: Ostrea, Macoma, Mytilus and Cardium. The Oosterscheldekering was officially opened in 1986.
