  • Sometimes mysterious $5 bootleg dvd's really pay off. Here we have Irving, Texas' Point Blank playing for the Rockpalast TV program at Palladium Cologne, Germany on June 10, 2007. It's dirty Texas blues rock to be sure, but Point Blank always had just the right hard edge to keep heavy rock fans' ears perked up and ready for more. If you close your eyes, you'd swear it was 1977 and not 2007. Rock forever.
    Lineup:
    Rusty Burns: guitar, vocals (R.I.P.)
    Danny Cochran: drums
    John O'Daniel: lead vocals (R.I.P.)
    Phillip Petty: bass (R.I.P.)
    Larry Telford: keyboards
    Buddy Whittington: guitar, vocals
    Setlist:
    00:00:00 - 01. Back in the Alley
    00:04:25 - 02. Moving
    00:07:42 - 03. Notions
    00:11:25 - 04. Bad Bess
    00:15:25 - 05. Uncle Ned
    00:21:04 - 06. Stars & Scars
    00:28:28 - 07. Nicole
00:32:59 - 08. Romance Classified (John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers)
    00:35:55 - 09. Lone Star Fool

In the late '90's (most) of the members of Point Blank had a band called Bigfoot Johnson who had a house-band gig at the Tattoo Bar. It wasn't Point Blank II, and was mainly just for fun....but they'd play most of their old material. I thought it was really cool to see and hear them up close, in a room that wasn't much bigger than kitchen! Up close and intimate. Awesome.

I saw them in the 70's at the Binary Star club in Dallas off of Inwood road. Who is still here that can remember that club? I am, lol 72yrs young and still rocking.

I caught them in the early 90s at the Loose Moose Saloon in Stanton, CA. They were great. Someone tried to rob me in the parking lot as I walked home but it didn't work out for him.

Holy crap I love this band. They should be with the likes of Lynard, Allman Bros, cause this is just straight dirty dog music. So good for the soul. Rock in a crowd, a bed, a truck, but your rockin somewhere with this band.

I saw Point Blank twice in the late 70's. They were PHENOMENAL. Very tight and as good as any of the bands they always opened up for back in those days. Sad that almost the entire original lineup have all passed. I believe Buzzy Gruen is the only surviving member...

I certainly remember The Binary Star. If I recall correctly, it was behind and above a unisex hair salon, two levels-- one for the stage, one for the patrons. I don't even think it was a legitimate licensed club!...if you wanted a beer, you had to go into the adjoining foosball arcade next door. Saw some great bands there-- Shotgun was a favorite. US Kids, Titus Oates (who were from my high school), Lynx, lots of Austin bands. A lot of the early punk bands played there as well. When Mother Blues/Gerties got busted, Led Zeppelin and Thin Lizzy would hang out and jam whenever they were in town. I made time with lots of good-looking chicks there....until I'd find out they were hookers! Great, fun place.

Point Blank are top! Discovered this Southern Rock Band long ago, and love them. I mean listen to "Thank you mama" (among many others of the early tracks) which unfortunately is missing in this setlist ♥ If you love Southern Rock, the first 4 albums (Point Blank/Second Season/Airplay/The Hard Way) are a must have, you'll love them :) I don't say the others aren't excellent as well, but I really dig the early albums.

One of my favorite concerts back in the day, Riverfront Colosseum in Cincinnati November 11, 1979. The Outlaws, Molly Hatchet, Point Blank. Point Blank played first and was rowdy as hell and fired the whole crowd up. O'Daniels yelled to the crowd " If anybody sees anybody throw anything on the stage... turn around and kick their fucking ass!! No one threw anything lol.

I grew up down the street from Rusty Burns, use to take my guitar down there and he'd wind up taking it away and playing it. He played a right handed guitar upside down, if you look closely he puts his strings on upside down on a left handed guitar, because he learned on a right handed guitar.

Thanks for posting this awesome show. I'm so glad this band did a reunion and recorded one of their best albums in the process along with some awesome live shows. This has been my favorite band since the mid 80's, unfortunately, I never got the chance to see them live. But at least I get to see this and some other great live stuff that's on youtube now. For being nearly 30 years after most of these songs were originally done, they sound amazingly good. So sad that most of the original band is gone since this was recorded.
