I've pretty much come to the same conclusion as you Rick; Quality of life = being fit enough to surf for as long as possible. Great to hear how good you're feeling! I'm gonna have to look into this carnivore stuff.🤙
Thanks for watching Lamb-O-N! Surf is Life, so my motivation was high... and then there was Carnivore! I studied nutrition and metabolic health 5-8 hours a day for 8 months, both before and after I chose to dive in to Carnivore... the more I learn, the happier I am about this journey. A good place to start.... Dr Ken Berry: ruclips.net/video/b_ZB551ftD4/видео.html
Mahalo Rick! Your post are always uplifting for me. I too sometimes while doing an evening paddle with no one around think what if something happens to me then the feeling passes. lol
Thanks Jardine! Exactly.... the more you move forward alone, the more you realize it's amazing and so much easier than coordinating with others. I love paddling with friends, but I get so much out of a peaceful solos session in nature!
Rock on, brother.! Any day on the ocean is a good day! I’m 68 years old. Today was 28 degrees with 42 degree ocean. I did not have any exceptional rides (lots of close outs) but had a load of fun. The joy and the peace that the ocean engenders is the key.
Great vid, Rick. Gotta seize the day, as some Greek bloke said. Looks like mind and body are in sync. Keep us updated with your surf vids for a long time, Thanks!🤙🏄♂️
It's been said before, and will be said many times in the future, you are simply inspirational Rick. Keep it up and keep the films coming. A nudge for all of us to do better. 9:53 Cheers, Stuart
I love your videos. When I grow up I wanna be like you Rick. I’m fifty something now and I’ll be fifty something plus one on the 24th. I thought you looked like you were losing weight.
Hi Rick, another hard day at the office. I'm still trying to catch you up at 75 went for 85kg to 72kg Supping and Windsurfing. Still doing loops on my windsurfing, I am the oldest man in the UK to do this 😊
Looking good, Rick and congrats on the new you! SUP forever, baby. I am 61 and have been SUP surfing for 15 years now. Occasionally I bust out my old longboard and go for a prone surf, but I’d rather be on my SUP any day!
Thank You Tommy, I appreciate that! SUP surfing is just amazing isn't it? So glad we found this life changing passion after 50 years of being super stoked on regular surfing!
Same age as you Rick and you are truly an inspiration. Started SUP 10 years ago and never looked back and riding a Kanga now on your recommendation and loving every drop!
Yep.. you're doing great Rick, and I to love my lonesome self paddling nature. Live by my friends principle before he left us.. " ride every wave like it's yo'ure last" and Clints moto.. " don't let the old man in".. Cheers and enjoy, and live every day like it could be our last. 😁
Congrats on hitting 186 at 76. You have come a long way, which hopefully means you will get to continue your surfing journey for a long time to come. Love your videos including the wise philosophy you throw in now and then. I am forever grateful for you helping me to decide to get my beloved Sunova SP25. At 73, I am hot on your heels!
Thanks Eddie! I will.... the terrible dietary guidelines that the US promotes are SO far off the mark. More designed to keep up perpetually sick. The word needs to get out by any means possible. Thanks Rayo.... what seemed out of reach in my previous matrix, is simply natural once I became awaare of how I was being manipulated for 50 years. I don't try, I don't work at it.... I really don't exercise at all, I never did. Of course I surf and now walk the beach one hour per day, but I never work out in any form. I eat till satisfaction at 9am and 3pm, love what I eat and never have cravings or feel any hunger after my 3pm meal. The weight just steadily drops. Quite amazing actually 😊
@@rickweeks be careful with straight carnivore. I think the main dude carnivoreMD who promoted it for so long had some medical issues and realized it isn’t feasible long term. He switched to adding fruit and veg (I think) and I believe that’s superior for sure
@@colter7300 Not worried... I have studied this WAY more than anything I did during 4 years of college and to a much deeper level. The DR you refer to is most likely Dr. Paul Saladino (also a surfer). He is nowhere near the main Carnivore MD Paul had particular issues so he added back some carbs, fruits and Veggies... but he is still a big red meat eater. Other clinical Doctors have reacted to his statements regarding Carnivore and pretty much dismiss them as personal opinion, not based on any studies. I make a point to study wide range of very respected and hyper qualified Doctors, neuroscientists, Clinical Physicians, Cardiac Vascular Surgeons and Research Biologists. The Carnivore sphere is filled with a plethora of highly trained specialist that willingly share scientific information as well as experience from their own practice Carnivore is a lifelong healthy path, although a Vegetarian centric medical system is trying hard to derail it. Carnivore is a wide tent.... it varies from person to person. Some eat a wide variety of food with the emphasis on animal products. Some are Red meat only. (They do just fine) I understand that our bodies are perfectly designed to forage on a wide variety of food groups. I am comfortable with carnivore for life, but I keep studying and learning everyday.
Hey Rick, very glad to hear that you found carnivore. I’m 64 and have been doing it 4 years. 180cm and 80kg consistent. No meds and no aches and pains, provided, I stay on it. If I cheat (which I do) I will be quickly reminded by my body to get back on it. ps.. I still have my 8.10 Ghost and can’t wait to get back to the Sunshine Coast this year to use it more. I wish you all the very best for 2025 and absolutely do stay on carnivore. You will never look back and will be surfing for a lot more years.
Thanks Mark... great to hear from you! I will never stray from a Wider Carnivore lifestyle... I am totally satisfied, love everything I eat and get never ending amazing results! Every other failed "healthy eating" plan has failed miserably and I was never satisfied by the food. When you are in FL, please let me know... we can grab a Ghost session! My email is on the video
Hey Jimmy, thanks! I am looking at getting a place in that general area, but not CR.... some of my friends have places down there. We need to get together more this summer dude!
You're very inspiring in you're surf. Let me tell you what happened to me on Carnivore. I did 3 momths strictly carnivor . Lost 40lbs. Felt great. Then I added Peanuts and cashews and yougurt and cheese.. I kept the 40 lbs off for 15 months but I just developed divertiticulitis. I am going to need surgery possibly to remove my colon. It's been a miserable 6 months but I switched to keto diet and the fiber seems to really help. Now I pray I don't have another attack and I can avoid surgery. I blame it on carnivor and possibly Peanuts together with out enough fiber. The fiber is helping me now.
Thanks for your input Kevin.... I am always open to peoples experience. Too bad that you suffered from all that misery. I hope you find success down the road!
Absolutely! I surf the 8'8 when Florida allows And I have surfed the 8'5 without issue on my way through Jacksonville, FL when buddy let me jump on his 1 hour old 8'5 Ghost! I am definately getting an 8'5.... we'll see if an 8'2 is reasonable to consider down the road!
😊Thanks SoCO! nahhh.... I probably ride no hand 80% of the time. My back and wrists appreciate that, and I am good at it. Actually, it's probably a moot point now.... I have discovered that walking is much more effective for my progress than riding ever was. I can ride in dirt for hours, (I use the bars for that!) but one day, I went for a 1 mile walk on a flat road and it almost did me in! I had lost the ability to walk any real distance 😨 So I began walking the beach at dawn. Now I do an hour every day and my body is much better from it, so the bike is just for the occasional diversion.
Carnivore may increase your LDL cholesterol (bad for cardiovascular health). This is easily fixed with medication (Lipitor), so no worries. Just get your blood work done, and if LDL is high, take a pill, and keep surfing. 😀
Thanks for watching DB, I greatly appreciate it. Not trying to be confrontational.... but I believed the bad information for 50 years and suffered because of it. Latest studies find a link between cholesterol and heart disease is flawed with no real evidence to support it. Heart.org: "Although dietary cholesterol was once singled out as a contributor to heart disease, the 2019 science advisory said studies have not generally supported an association between dietary cholesterol and cardiovascular risk." I follow the "Functional Medicine" side of modern medicine that is focused on prevention and cures, not health management by medication. Cholesterol is hugely important to cell and brain health. For a taste watch Dr Philip Ovadia being interviewed about this topic Dr Ovadia is a Cardiac Vascular Surgeon who has done over than 3,000 open heart surgeries. He is a carnivore. fast forward to 14:00 ruclips.net/video/b_ZB551ftD4/видео.html I will never take a pill to lower my cholesterol.
@@rickweeks Cholesterol is vitally important, but like smoking's link to cancer, elevated levels of non-HDL is linked with cardiovascular disease. The research is pretty definitive. LDL isn't the best measure though. Looking at ApoB is a better indicator. If genes, lifestyle and/or functional medicine can keep ApoB to safe levels, perfect. But if not, the risk of side effects from statins or other pharmacological interventions are vastly outweighed by their potential effect in reducing cardiovascular disease for those at risk.
@markgamble568 Yep. And non-smokers get cancer. Shit definitely happens. All we can do is minimize the risks we can control (within reason). Rick's dedication to health here is inspiring. His results are so impressive.
